Todays scrimmage

I know this is unpopular but I want Arab Money to start over Shayon. I'm sorry we need a constant pass rush to help our secondary.

Because a team is going to throw the ball every down right? On top of that, for this hypothetical lets start a true freshman over a 5th year senior (Gilbert) who has the same qualities (better than Quan) when healthy. Green needs his role lessened, but he can still provide depth.

I wouldn't dismiss AQM so lightly. I also wouldn't say that Gilbert is a better pass rusher than AQM at this point.
Gilbert is a known quantity. He started 13 games last year and had 4 sacks. In 4 years playing college Gilbert has 14.5 tfl's and 8.5 sacks. Chick in 2 years has 13 tfl's and 9 sacks and most people, not myself, think Chick is a below average to average pass rusher.
So what does that say for Gilbert?
Quan looks like a guy who could go off like Rusty Madearis and get 4.5 sacks in his 1st ever game.
Not saying it will happen, just saing that to compare AQM to Gilbert is, honestly a huge compliment to Gilbert.

Exactly. Arab Money just provides that extra bit of athleticism and burst that we have sorely been lacking. Also, who's to say he would be so much worse than Shayon in run support? Shayon is alright as a player but a starter at a major D-1 program? No. He is a rotation guy.

I'm hoping we can rotate 8 guys across the d line. Fresh hungry legs on every series.
I think Shayon would be the first to tell you he's not the most talented end on our team. He knows that better than most of us, but he goes hard and smart on every rep. He doesn't make a lot of explosive plays but he also doesn't appear to make a lot of mental errors.
He's like the anti Telemaque. VT made a play a game then spent the rest of the game out of position or committing penalties.

A lot of people forget Shayon was our defensive MVP last year. Ok, that's like being the faster Yugo.
He's one of our captains and a senior leader, and I'm hoping he gets his 1st ever sack pile driving Driskell.

The comparison to Chick and Gilbert looks valid on the surface, but if you dig deeper its not even remotely similar. Did you take into account Gilbert's injuries? He didn't play for 4 full years man...cmon. Here is his Wisco bio...

That's one **** of a productive season last year. He was injured 3/4 of the season in '11. In '12 he was a true soph. This guy is no slouch...and if healthy, will be an impact player for us without a doubt. Possibly our top DE the day he stepped foot on campus.

Tyrone Cornelius .. no big plays?

Also noticed that Highsmith and Rogers names don't show up in the highlights.

Has Gilbert not been playing with nagging foot injuries his only career at Wisconsin? Gilbert's 4 sacks last year at Wisconsin would have been more than anyone on our team. As I mentioned before, he was playing with a nagging injury. Gilbert's freshman year he played sparingly, and his junior year was cut short (played 3 games) due to injury. You think a true freshman can get 4.5 sacks in one game? 4.5 sacks in one season would be a success for AQM.

Just for some reference, these player as freshman totaled

-Mario Edwards: 1.5 sacks
-Noah Spence: 1 sack
-Jonathan Bullard: 1.5 sacks
-Channing Ward: 0
-Tyriq McCord: 3.5 sacks
-Devonte Fields 9 sacks

These were the statistics of 6 top DE prospects of the 2012 class.

AQM has elite passing rushing skills, everyone can see it. From the fans to the coaches watching it everyday at practice. He is a freak, but he's not ready to start right away. If you read my edited post (before you replied) I stated that. Gilbert has gotten the job done at a d1 level already. When healthy he can provide a pass rush. You must also remember that there's more to pass rushing than just sacks. Causing havoc & consistent pressure is vital to disrupting the qbs poise. AQM is a freshman, and I would feel much better with a proven player in Gilbert over AQM. The OP also said he wanted AQM to start over Green because of pass rush, as if opponents pass the ball on every down. Another example goes for Gunter and Burns. Burns could be better than all of our corners by week 10, but as of now, he still has to prove himself.

For someone who calls himself hurricane glory, you don't know much about the Hurricanes.
Chick had 4 sacks last year and 5.5 his freshman year.

Yes a freshman can get 4.5 sacks in his 1st game.
I saw it done by a true freshman who I've already mentioned. You know what else? Rusty didn't even start that game.

As I said Gilbert, whom it seems you might be related too, is part of the answer, not THE answer.
He, Shayon, Kamalu, Chick, AQM combined are, hopefully, the answer to our pass rush woes.

You might want to edit your post, particularly your time line. If he was a true soph in 2012 how did he earn his 2nd letter in 2010?

At the scrimmage. Halftime.

Here are my highlights:

Herb Waters 45 yd completion from Morris

Herb Waters 60 yd completion for TD on 3rd down from Morris

80 yd Morris TD to Dorsett

Defense with a 3 and out. Morris pass to Malcolm Lewis short of 1st

Artie Burns jumps on pass intended for herb waters in end zone. Bats down. Impressive.

Duke Johnson tasty 20 yd run

30 yd pass from Morris's to Mo hagens

20 yd pass from Morris to Duke who makes a bunch of people miss.

Defense has been hit and miss. Have gotten a couple of 3 and outs and defending the running game fairly well. Gilbert (11) has played quite a few snaps and has gotten pressure on Morris once contributing to incompletion.

In terms of injuries: In addition to Chickillo not playing, Mo hagens took a hard hit and had to be helped off field. Ladarius Gunter also took a shot to groin but seemed ok.

Do you have any updated from the second half of the scrimmage?

Does JaWand Blue exist or is it a brand of detergent?

No detergent,no Hoilett,no Moore,no King playing

I guess the coaches already know those players wont make the final depth chart anyway... good that just means that Kamalu, Renfrow, and Gilbert are legit. Give the young pups some more time to develop. Jawand Blue may come along as a redshirt junior you never know.

Ok, Gilbert and Chickillo would've been tied...big deal. My bad im watching the game instead of looking at every box score. Since one freshman got 4.5 sacks in his first game that must mean everyone can do it right? Lmao. AQM is a freak but anything over 5 sacks would be a **** of season for him. (For what we are asking him to do). It's hard for even elite Dline recruits to come in and make and warrant a consistent pass rush as a freshman. (See post above)

I agree with you on the last part (adding McCord in the mix there), but that wasnt really the subject at hand.

The D isn't going to see a team as loaded on OL, at WR/TE, and with a player comparable to Duke Johnson at all this year.

True but Miami's defense cant sleep on UF or FSU's offense at all.... FSU is loaded at running back and UF has some young talent at receiver that can make plays.

Sounds like defense is giving up too many "chunk" plays.

I was thinking the same thing. Not a good sign.

SMH.... What does "not a good sign" mean to you??? do you think the defense is going to be worse then they were last year?

the final score was 31-19 b/c of a slick 4th down conversion on the last play, It wouldve been 24-19.

The offense is ahead of the defense, thats a given, so what r u talking about?
