To all the Coach Coley haters

I think the injuries we suffered on offense are severely understated in this thread.

Offense we lost Duke, Dorsett, and had a hobbled Morris, at least for part of the season.

Equivalent on Defense would be something like (including a hobbled Deon Bush): Perryman (Duke), maybe someone like a McCord in terms of impact (Dorsett), and a hobbled Bush (Morris).

How would our defense have looked then?

That said, I think the two guys arguing agree on more than they disagree -- the defense certainly needs work, and the offense, while good, was not elite.

I also think that explosive plays are almost taking on a negative connotation, which is absurd to me. Explosive plays might in fact be the single most important factor to winning football games (http://www.footballstudyhall.com/2014/1/24/5337968/college-football-five-factors). On top of the obvious emotional boost and momentum that comes out of big plays, they also limit the time the offense is on the field. You guys treat this as a bad thing, but as we saw in the UF game, the more time an offense is on the field, the greater the chance for a turnover.

Saying an offense was bad because it scored too quickly is asinine. The offense's job is to score. The defense's job is to not let the other team score.

The job of the offense is to possess the ball and score. Explosive scores are always nice, but you can't make a living off it. At some point you need to convert on 3rd downs late in the game and control the clock and tempo of the game when the situation calls for it. That was our problem, we couldn't.
Now I put that more on the QB than I do the OC. But the offense was the better unit had more horses and they needed to protect the defense and didn't.
