Thoughts on the end of the Golden era

Is it me or do all the potential candidates seem like duds outside of Butch?

It's just you.

There are much better candidates this cycle.

Maybe so, but I still think Miami requires a different type of coach. Can't stomach another hiring of a non-major college coach who has to compete with Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolina schools to get players. There's nothing like recruiting Florida.

The same UF school you're afraid of trying to compete against with Group of 5 HC (Fuente or Herman) just hired its HC from the Mountain West Conference.

Exactly . People want Urban after UF and Saban after Lsu .Not while they're at Bowling Green and Toledo.

They want a sure thing but those guys cost 5-6 million a year.

Fuente is a star in the making , same guys will be wanting him once he takes another job and balls out.
They went to Utah and Michigan state before UF and LSU

Howard, Jimmy, Dennis, and Butch ran college football. Butch builds teams. Butch should be the front runner.

You're not getting the point. Utah and Toledo at the time were equilivent to Memphis now. Mich St took a chance and so did UF.

Both were at mid major programs then jumped to power five schools.

Big question. What kinda defense Herman and Fuente plays? That's my main concern with any coach.

I don't know the specifics but Fuente said:

We're going to play fast, fast, fast offensive football and we're going to recruit fast, fast, fast defensive players," he said.

This is a page right out of Gary Patterson's playbook. He wants speed.

Fuente's DC also left for a bigger DC gig (Missouri), so it seems he has an eye for coaching talent.

I am getting the point. The guys you are talking about are where Saban and Meyer were pre Mich St , Utah.....not pre LSU, UF. They went to those schools which was better than Toledo/BGSU but not LSU/UF.

BTW while we are at it. We should check on the guy coaching Pitt. Nerduzzi I think his name is

If wed hired a guy from Utah back then our fan base would've went nuts, they were a mountain west team. Which technically is below Memphis now. And Utah was an ok program, Memphis was an all time dumpster fire

They went nuts when we hired Erickson. If we had a forward thinking admin we would be good, and trust they will think clearly and correct themselves after mistakes.
Oh and Utah won a BCS bowl under Meyer, not sure how many people would be mad at someone coming off that

How about we just start throwing in guys like Bryan Harsin, Doc Holliday, and Matt Campbell if we're gonna throw in Fuente and the gang? Since y'all just love to bring up guys from mid-conference schools, there ya go.

Yeah, but they beat an average Pit team from the big east . A conference people thought should lose automatic bid since it was so bad.

I mean our fans are poo pooing Fuente beating the west leading rebels from the sec, with a roster with nowhere near the talent .

imagine what they'd say about Meyers win against a crap team in a Bcs bowl

Throw they *** all in there. Temple current coach?!! Haha

Herman would be the right hire and exactly what this program needs. Fuente intrigues me too.

The only NFL person we might be able to land and that I would consider is Hue Jackson. **** no to Chud, Schiano.

List should be Herman, Butch, Fuente, and Jackson.

Temple is undefeated too! They beat Cincy and Penn State! Matt Rhule next coach!

He might actually be a good coach. You're letting the only comparison of him and Golden having coached in the same school blind your logic.

He's actually done a helluva job from what the local papers say. Guy has kids going to the gym working out on off days simply to show they're in love with the team and what he's doing. Obviously, not right for the Miami job at this point but he could potentially land a big job elsewhere, or make Temple semi-relevant for years to come.

Actually Rhule doesn't compare to Al, he's done way more Temple than Golden at Um
