Thoughts on future roster construction / nil

unproven young talent. the younger kids barely got any run bc of the upperclassmen were so good this year.

x george and likely brown are gone.

horton is good and likely returning imo. we have ny carr and trader as next guys up. both have talent but unproven so far. im out on ray ray.
If there us really a need to add 2 or 3 wrs from the portal, then we have bigger issues, specifically with player development. How many times do you see Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State getting wrs from the portal? OSU losses guys to the NFL year after year, yet their mentally is always 'Next Man Up'. We have studs in the 24 class with TRader, Robinson and Carr. The 25' class will finish extremely strong at the WR position.

Also why are you knocking Ray Ray? It's hard to get snaps when you're sitting behind not only the best slot WR in the country, but statistically the best WR in our programs history. Ray Ray strengths aren't in the vertical deep threat game, so obviously he's not going to take snaps from X. He's had two years to learn from X, so I feel confident he'll step up

We need a true #1 CB and a safety. And a true NB. I think those will be a top priority given how bad our defensive backfield is.

How many number 1 CBs were in the last years portal? I'm not asking u, this is just a general question cause I can't think of much. The only one I remember was Jabbar Muhammad. Does anybody know how many were there in the 2024 portal?

There's no way were going after 3 WRs in the portal but I could see us going after 2. D money mention a number 1 WR would be a need for next years portal. I could see if Brown and Horton comeback just adding 1 WR from the portal and playing the young guys. Really depends how much our staff thinks whose ready

As @DMoney has mentioned maybe 1,000 times, the DB room is really going to need to be addressed through HS recruiting

I'd rather watch Paul Johnson's offense at Miami over this secondary. We are Miami. It's almost sacrilegious.

No1 is “without limits”. The point is you don’t have a cap that you have to stay under. You can have a bake sale where Ray Finkle’s mom contributes football cookies (laces out dan) for all I care, but you are more than able to exceed a number. If people don’t want to pay 2-3M for a QB so be it, but the point of the matter is we spent for highly rated high dollar players and we need to keep doing that for the time being. QB is not a luxury, it’s a necessity to compete. This team would likely be fighting for bowl eligibility had we not ponied up for Cam Ward. Add in Tyler Baron and you are talking some serious change, which we have committed.
Okay seem to understand the point that you have to allocate your budget appropriately.
I agree that we should spend big on a QB and I also understand that spending big on QB might leave a limit what you can spend on other positions. It all depends on how much money you have in your budget. I don't believe they can take out loan to cover it.
That's all.

How much money do we have to play with? Blank check book?
We have plenty. Everyone is thinking salary cap = budget. They are different. You can increase your budget at any time through whatever means you choose (donations, boosters, feet finder, OnlyFans) I don’t care. The fact is, unless congress and NCAA pass it, there is not a cap.

Entirely depends what the costs are and how much money we have available to spend. The reality is when there is no salary cap but you don't have the largest checkbook you may walk away the loser of the sweepstakes. If there is a legit Heisman contender like Cam Ward, imo you go all out for them. If you don't view any as Heisman contenders, than you try to get the best bang for your buck that will be a top 10 guy in the country. There is a long list of potential transfer Qbs in other threads.

But I think some of yall need to stop pretending like we have some unlimited funding that can write yearly checks for the best QB in the portal AND sign top 3 HS classes and sign another 5-7 high-impact portal guys yearly. You're just living in fantasy land. Realistically you can pick 2 of those at most.

Indiana
Vandy
Ohio state
Oregon

All landed qbs in the portal worse than cam

If we can land anybody in that level we'll be fine for next year. There's also a list of places that landed terrible QBs from the portal NC State, FSU, North Carolina (granted he got hurt in the first game), UCF, Michigan State etc...

Mario over hauling the roster again

To me over hauling is what FSU going to do and what Colorado, Louisville did this past portal by bringing in 30-40+ kids from the portal. Miami probably doing 15 or less as usual which is what everybody is doing. Ole Miss brought in 25 transfers, Oregon 14 transfers, Alabama 15 transfers, Texas 12 transfers, Georgia 11 transfers etc... Ohio State actually only brought in 7 transfers and Tennessee only had 9 transfers coming in
