Thoughts on future roster construction / nil

I know everyone expects Miami to be primed to make another big splash for a portal QB next offseason but what if instead of using that $2 million+ on a QB would it be wiser to roll with Emory and use the money to get 3 or 4 more impact players on defense? With the roster the way it is I would be ok with trusting the OL/TEs/RBs with Emory. We could be aggressively going after Safety, LB and DL and maybe even a WR and CB through the portal.

My reasoning: we won’t be able to find another Cam Ward, so instead of trying to throw a big NIL deal for what will ultimately be a downgrade we could spread that around to the other holes on the team.

Depends on what’s out there in all honesty. A bunch of threads on the qb options. I wouldn’t force someone in here similar to Emory’s level. I personally like having nil allocated mostly to hs recruiting.

What I’d like to do :

We need to do better job scouting the transfer portal for higher upside players that are productive at lower levels like ponds from jmu ( I know he followed his coach to Indiana but it’s just an example).

Right now the whole nil market is overinflated. Similar to premier soccer league teams at the top are paying outrageous prices for players that are not even stars. Players that were average at the p4 level are commanding outrageous prices. I’d like to have the approach of the teams in the middle of the pack in the premier league that make a killing signing players from lower teams that are productive.

The difference is in soccer there’s no hs recruiting like cfb. I prefer most our nil go there and load up on blue chips across the board. I actually agree on not going crazy for blue chip hs qbs with certain exceptions because of the bust rate. We do need to do everything to keep Dereon Coleman.

I know it’s an apples and oranges comparison and no one but Miami’s money to allocate just my perspective.

Give me an elite defensive backfield, receivers, and defensive line and you can cover up a lot of other issues. You can scheme a lot of stuff at the other positions to make average look very good.

No offense, but I think trusting some of our staff to out scheme the opponents on a consistent basis has been tested and the results aren't great. We need talents to mask our deficiencies there, because even some of our talented players (DL) are being put in positions to be unsuccessful.

I was speaking specifically of roster construction. Yeah if we’re talking these 2 coordinators we need about 25 5* throughout the roster

Assuming that because we're not going to find another Cam Ward, that there won't be any good QB's in the Portal is a False Dilemma Fallacy.

There will without question be several QB's who are unequivocally better than Emory in the Portal, that is an undeniable fact.

Choosing not to get one of them, would be a mistake.

we will need a top tier portal QB who is athletic
we will need a cooper replacement and rivers replacement (mccoy isnt good).
we will need a new center
we will need to replace X (in the short term bc i think we have talent at WR but ray ray isnt an X clone).
we prolly lose a few of the RBs to the portal (im assuming CJ leaves, Ajay as well).
thats about it for the O

defense -

we need DTs
well need another DE in the short term to replace trash can baron until booker and others gain some size
well need an experienced athletic MLB
well need an experienced athletic Safeties
well need corners to replace what we have and start right away (OJ is the only one guaranteed)

emory is 10 game winner didnt you hear.

How do you know we won't be able to get another Cam Ward?

Diego Pavia didn't transfer to Vandy until mid January (no, I'm not saying he's Cam Ward. I'm saying there are options you can win with). Cam was after the first of the year. There will be PLENTY of options available at multiple positions. Let's just let it play out.

Idk if anyone is saying we wont get another cam ward, but what cam ward is doing this season is absolutely special and once in a lifetime (literally in the records hes setting). that isnt replaceable but you can get a top tier QB in the portal. there's always someone available.

id want the OC gone though once cam leaves.

And to think, we were this close to starting the season with Reese/emory as QB this year. Can you imagine?

Before breaking the bank on defensive players, let’s address the defensive scheme. If the scheme isn’t the issue, then hunt players that fit it. If the scheme is the problem & DC struggles to make adjustments, then let’s find a Guidry replacement.

lol
some of yall are in for a very rude awakening
tell me who on the roster replaces Cam + X's productivity...
i'll wait.
Massive. I mean massive development will need to happen this off-season if we want to be anything more than a 8 win team next year. We can always hope we land another stud qb but I think this off-season’s talent acquisition will need to be the best it’s been under Mario and he hasn’t proven he can do that well in the portal consistently.

We will see what happens. I know it’s water under the bridge but Mario and his staff let a good bit of quality DL depth leave and hit the transfer portal. We could have really used players like Elijah Roberts, Hunte, and Harvey. A true lack of foresight.
