This team needs a jolt right now and there's only one way...

Play Ryan Williams

Doesn't necessarily have to be a full benching of Morris, can alternate series or 2:1, but I think this will shake things up in a much needed way right now...

We scored 2 tds against Duke
we're horrible in he red zone

And Morris is not playing with urgency this may help him or snuff him out...

Also gotta start looking at next year...

It's a no brainier, things will not change in this program until we vast
Y improve at QB

Dude, you my boy Nate Slaps?

Under the current circumstances, you can't play Ryan Williams and kill Stephen Morris' NFL aspirations. Sure, some of you will view that as "who cares about Morris' draft status," but current and future players will care about what it potentially means to them.

Lu, I totally undertsand that line of thinking, but the future is now. Golden has to start getting kids ready for next year. We know what Morris, Highsmith, Kacey Rodgers, Jimmy Gaines and others can do. We(and the NFL scouts) have seen their ceilings. I seriously doubt that Morris will improve his draft stock considerably more with the remaining 2 games. A good combine is his next best hope.

I agree we let the seniors start against UVA in their home finale. But at some point, you give the backups and youngsters they major minutes in both remaining games. Loyalty is one thing, getting ready for next year started the minute Duke was done curbstomping us.

I wouldn't be opposed to letting get some snaps and looks. I would be opposed to sinking Morris' draft stock because other players would think "****, that could be me…I'm outta here first chance."

But that same player could have been given a chance because they sat a player for him.

I think its too late to bench Morris. Let him play the last 2 games of the season and the bowl game and his era is over with. And Ryan Williams should not be the starter next year.

Bruh! This is a defensive issue. Giving up over 1600 yards the last 3 games will not get u anywhere I dont care if u have jameis Winston back there.

While I completely agree that our D is atrocious, This is an offensive issue as well. One way we SHOULD be able to control the game and keep our D off the field is by controlling the tempo. Our O has been terrible on 3d dn conversions and red zone conversions.

ACC play and 3d down conversions
GT 6 of 13
UNC 8 of 18
FSU 4 of 12
VT 3 of 12
Duke 5 of 15

Our high-powered, explosive offense does rack up yards, but does not put enough points on the board. With a D as horrible as ours, we have to rely on the offense and they simply are not putting points on the board like they should.

So yes, it's a defensive issue, but our offense has plenty of issues as well.

This is pretty well thought out. The issue with Morris, and it appears to be getting better, is the ankle. I don't think his play or Williams would have changed much in the Duke game. I do with the FSU and VT game. His passes were not sailing him because he couldn't put weight on the back leg in the Duke game like the other two.

Changing to Williams now would be a bit too late and to be honest, the injury looks to be lesson in effect on his stance.

The thing that trips me out is Duke scored 48 points against us, and we are pointing to Morris. They point at it without even looking at the stats:

Comp: 30
Att: 49
Yds: 379
TD: 2
Int: 1

and the one pick was a deflection, not a throw pick. Morris threw the **** ball 49 times. Think about that, 49 **** times, had a completion rate of 61%, and that includes drops; however, Williams would have presented a better chance for a win in the Duke game.

Then like Lu said, what do you send to the team and do to his draft stock. Recruits wouldn't dare touch that one, that would be a near kiss of death. I hate to call out posters and point out stupid stuff, think about it. FSU in the middle of the game, maybe. VT, maybe. Now, it don't solve a dang thing. The D lost it, and screaming Morris is ignorance.

Duke was 3 of 13 in 3rd down conversions in that game.

My reasoning goes well beyond Morris. I make sure Highsmith and Rogers are sitting while the next 3-4 safeties are getting the majority of minutes. Same goes with MLB. Gaines is gone after this year. Someone needs to be ready, well why not let that person takes his lumps in meaningless games. This goes for all seniors who haven't played up to expectations.

Seriously OP, this is what you got? The jolt this team needs is benching the one guy who had a good game last week? On senior day, mind you.......

A fast tempo offense that is bad in the redone and can't convert on 3rd down is a disaster

Look the offense, while we have issues there no doubt, isnt the problem here. This whole notion that the offense needs to put together 7 minute drives every time is ridiculous. We get destroyed in TOP not because our offense isn't putting together long drives, we are losing that battle because our defense cant get off the field, plain and simple. I hear you that it might make the defense tired by the end of the game, but what about earlier? Are quick drives and not converting on 3rd down in the second quarter the reason our defense cant stop anybody? How about we make more than 2 stops a game and I bet that it would not be so bad. We scored 30 against Duke, and lost and the problem you see is that our offense is too fast tempo? Either Im taking crazy pills or Im being trolled, something tells me Im not being trolled here....

Duke game 5-15 on third down,if Morris moves the chains and that number is 10-15 conversions on third down the defense is off the field 15 more minutes. Not only is the defense resting but their offense is not on the field running for 350 yards. Again, nobody is arguing the defense is not terrible or poorly coached just that the O did not due their job. This game turned with the canes up 17-7 and Morris tries to thread the needle in double coverage and threw the pick to give Duke all the momentum. Morris and his mistakes constantly cripple this team. 24-7 and Duke is crippled.

How about Mr Miyagi fixing Duke's ankle? Jolt. A few defensive 3 and outs? Jolt. A gif style sack by McCord or AQM? Jolt. Or I wear my favorite Miami T that I finally found. Wife put in the wrong pile and hadn't wore since Wake. Super jolt!

I think Morris has lost his sense of urgency, as displayed on both the personal foul and the run oob on 3rd down short of the sticks. This may help him

Defense gives up almost 350 yards on the ground. Bench the QB who threw for almost 400. Makes sense.

If we are talking about offense then we should bench James Coley

6.4 ypc and we ran it only 29 times. Crawford was averaging 6.1. We have a huge offensive line that was dominating their DL, its an OL that already won 2 ACC games in the 4th quarter. Just some curious play calling when we needed 1st downs.

Not to mention punting a few times on 4th and short when the above was all true. God I'm so frustrated by every single part of this team.

I dont even know what to say......
The offense put up 30 pts, yes 30, Im sorry while they could have scored more, when your team scores 30 pts on the road, it might not be perfect but it isnt a problem. Now if we scored 10 or 14 even 17 I hear you but we scored 30 and the guy you want benched threw for over 300 on 60% completion, yet our defense giving up 48 and 350 on the ground isnt the main problem? Do you hear/read yourself? Every time they got the ball they just drove down field at will, every time. The only stops I remember were on dropped passes. Also when they actually got a stop, its now all of sudden all on the offense to take advantage of that one stop and if they dont its all on them?

Here is my favorite part of your post 'Not only is the defense resting but their offense is not on the field running for 350 yds', reread that a couple times and think about that.....

Morris quit just as much as the D, that last game, running out of bounce on those crucial 3rd downs, ive been saying this for weeks morris is the only problem on the offense

I watched the game and re-watched it(as pain staking as that was). While watching the first quarter Morris was using all of his guys check downs and so forth. **** Hagens even touched the ball a couple times. midway through the second and the remainder of the game all of that had vanished. he snapped the ball and threw it to his primary called receiver. **** near picked off two more times based on that. I wish Morris all the luck and good fortune in the world but i see him as a "josh freeman" QB. all the intangibles but nothing between the ears. our stats in the red zone or anytime we threaten to score(inside the 40 i know it isn't the red zone) our offense ***** themselves and do incredibly stupid ****. we were gashing duke when we were smash-mouth running the ball. stay with that nahhhhh let throw the ball when we can pound them and make them as tired as our "lack of" defensive unit was. I know Coley calls plays but **** if they cant stop us running why go away from it? Duke didn't!! lord knows we didn't stop them and it really showed in the 4th quarter.

You need to get your tongue out of Morris ***. Again, 17-7 and offense moving the ball and Morris throw a pick and destroys the canes momentum and gives Duke life, which defensive player caused that?
