THIS IS NOW THE JUNGLE!

Those who havent posted with LuCane the last few years probably don't realize how nice this is to read.

Lu gets it.

I almost feel the need to apologize for the excitement. I've been truly pessimistic for so long that this caught me by surprise. It's like watching an empty screen for 10 years waiting for a radar alert and then...

BEEP!

A single beep. But, **** it. I'm gonna react to it.

LOL. Don't apologize!

I think we're extrapolating a lot from the mind of one 18 year old kid who took his ball and went home. Especially after his surreal comments about being upset we recruited Burns and Carter- that sort of disqualifies any rationality IMHO.

That said, I do agree with the premise. It certainly seems that AG is about competition and culture, and it it certainly harkens back to some of our glory days. That shouldn't be surprising, as AG is a student of UM history.

It's a single data point for a single position. However, what makes it such a big deal is that there hasn't been this kind of data point for a decade.

Plus, I really do think Vernon Davis is a very talented player. I had projected him as a potential surprise guy. So, to me, it means a little more because of that. I think he'll be a starter elsewhere.

Can't argue that its a nice little piece of micro data, and every little bit helps. But what if he's just a *****? Those Artie and Carter comments showed a complete detachment from reality. But I'm not sold on Davis anyway. Youtube clips, rankings, stars, fan analysis, blah, blah, blah. Tell me what happens on Greentree when they get to UM. And Davis was apparently behind all the other new kids. That's what matters... to me.

All that said, I'm happy to get these kids in to camp, NFL style, and have the last place kid get "cut" in favor of opening a 'ship.

It's a good point. Maybe he IS a *****. The comments about guys still in HS are pretty scary. So, let's say that scenario is true.

What's scarier? 5 years ago, the scenario (the numbers, etc.) plays out where we just roll the dice with this guy whether he's a ***** or not. Whether he's mentally soft, complacent or simply entitled.

Now? His environment pushes him to leave in under a month.

Remember JR Mounts? He was talented as can be. Dude quit immediately because the environment was simply too tough. Now, obviously that's a special situation on one of the most talented teams ever (in history) and with a RB position loaded with future All-Pros. But...

That's the entire point.

No need for apologies. Golden has coached in my area for a long time and wherever he was, people talked about how he would be a great coach in the near future. Maybe this is all bull**** but I don't think so. It feels like the beginning, especially when we play in a conference that's ripe for the pickings.

Dude, believe me, I like it. Competition and culture. And I believe in AG.

Actually there were reports that he had been doing well. Howard, Crawford, and Davis were the three names I kept hearing amongst the freshmen CBs, but I suppose the other two clearly separated themselves.

Agree with Lu that it is a good sign. But also agree with Bomb that we shouldn't overreact to this and need to temper excitement. This is just one instance, for us to be where we need to be it will have to be systematic.

Agree.

And, I suppose my point is that, for it to be systematic, we were going to have to see the first concrete sign. In the movies, this is where the "dead" guy gets that first "BEEP" from the machine. He's still all ****ed up and may or may not make it. But, at least we're livin'.

Hate to end this jerk fest but, why the **** was this sissy recruited? A good coach can look a kid in the eye and know all he needs to know right then and there!

A move like this should put the whole program on notice; either go balls to the wall, or step aside because the next dude is chomping at the bit to do just that.....

+ rep to Lu here.

A datapoint doesn't make a trend, but an absence of datapoints sure does -- and that is what we've had for a decade.

Lol Good stuff Lu!

This happens at great programs ALL THE TIME. Travell Dixon left Alabama for more playing time. Jacobi McDaniel is taking a redshirt this year at FSU. I think we are headed in the right direction.

The difference is crystal clear. During the last decade, we would have "settled" and simply hoped Vernon Davis could be relied upon to be one of our top corners. When a player (Davis) with over a full year of experience advantage is worried about an incoming HS guy, you're definitely pushing the evolution and quality of a position.
Great stuff as always Lu, and I completely agree. The culture needed to change and it seems like it has.
