this has nothing to do with talent

I don’t understand how a unit can be this confused in week 11 and we’re still blaming players lol

We gave up zero points on nine straight drives. They had ten drives. Get some perspective.

This is why I've turned on Guidry. I get he's dealing with a few injuries and lack of depth in the DB room. But first, that's partly on him. Second, the guys out there on the field are athletically gifted enough to play much better ball than they are. Get outcoached or exposed on poor alignments one game, you get a hall pass. But by game 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and now 10, keep getting abused, it's entirely on the coach.

I do think the bye week helped as I didn't see panicked arm waving by the secondary and mislignments all game like I did in previous games. But this is long overdue. I worry we're going to see a lot of backsliding with a more legitimate offense on Saturday.

Zero points in the last 50 minutes.

I should forget 9 weeks because of 1 week? Is that the correct perspective?

Which is it? The previous nine weeks, or "this confused in week 11", which is what I responded to?

Our defense wasn't confused in week 11.

Both. And just because the team didn’t take advantage of stuff doesn’t mean that we should just be blind to it

Just own it. You were emotional because we committed the sin of giving up a touchdown to a team that scores 27 points per game. We weren't "confused in week 11".

Is the middle linebacker not allowed to shift the DL if he sees a misalignment?

Is our Mike not capable? Not allowed? Inconsistent with it? Needs permission?

Communication on the field has a personnel element, to it, too. That is stuff we don't know, but stuff like this isn't just from the sideline.

These people think the players just go out there and do exactly what the coach told them in practice.

Yeah it was genius. We shut them down after a couple of weak series early on. But the previous 6 games were head scratchers and enough to make me think Guidry was failing. So now I’m wondering if it was a dead cat bounce or did he really use the bye week to get this thing right?

The Mesidor for Baron swap, moving Meesh closer to the line where his mental processing is an advantage and his lack of speed is less exploitable, the emergence of the DTs, no Kiko chasing receivers 20+ yards off the ball. These are really good signs. If they hold up v Syracuse I’ll start believing again.

Here is one thing I do know...our players in the back seven have their heads up their *** when they need to shift and move around. They are always late reacting when a player runs past their face pre-snap.

In the Wake game...they would send their slot guy...#2 in motion to see what we were doing. Meesh would chase him back and forth while Jaden Harris would only shift a little bit. After the 3rd or 4th shift in the same pre-snap...I guess Meesh got tired of chasing the **** around and switched assignments (went high, while Harris shifted to man) and...of course they went right at ******* Harris because Harris had no idea what he was doing, needed Meesh to tell him to shift after #2 was already ready to go and lined up. This happened more often in the game, Wake just stinks at it.

GT did it with Rutherford, too.

Part of this stuff is coaching, for sure. But the coaches aren't up in the box, able to make quick calls like they are playing CFB25. There needs to be some agency from the personnel to get their **** together pre-snap. Most of our busts are busted before the ball is hiked.

if you listened to guidry in his presser he mentioned them playing with confidence relating to better performance...yeah coach speak to a degree...but noteworthy
AND if you watch replays ( some of us do) - you do see guys pointing at each other or even looking around in confusion and then you see two following one kinda ****
is it POSSIBLE - that perhaps this is more on the players than the coaches as most in here would lead us to believe? is it POSSIBLE that this could be a conversation?
It’s tough to make heads or tails of Miami’s defense. There are some basic high school-level concepts that the players just aren’t executing, so at this point, I can’t solely blame the coaching. I remember when Guidry was asked to run more zone coverage—he adjusted, and Louisville shredded us.

To me, it’s more of a talent issue. That said, coaching still plays a role in identifying the team’s strengths and weaknesses.

What I’m most curious about is the personnel we’ll see on Saturday. Watching Syracuse, they’re a decent team, but let’s be honest—there’s no reason we shouldn’t dominate them. If we lose to Syracuse with so much on the line, it would be an absolute failure. This game should serve as a solid warm-up for SMU.

As I said in another thread… afraid it was more just Wake not taking advantage of what they could have and not the defense being fixed. Boneheaded on their part to not even try what GT killed us with and just stick to what they do.

Luckily, Syracuse is a lot of the same. We’ll see if they change what they do for the matchup.

Also like I said, ya the alignment isn’t good to begin with but Bain continues to rush up field and take himself out of the play. He did it 3-4 times and Baron does it too. I’m not sure who is coaching it that way or if our players are just that clueless. Mesidor is more effective at the end because he is far more disciplined than the others in that regard
it seems to be more selfish play to chase the numbers than make the disciplined play.

I think he was syaing "you don't need to know the call" to know that you are outmanned nearly 2-to-1 at the point of attack.

Everybody remain calm.

We definitely need to improve our alignments. We could have a great defensive playcall, but if guys are not in the best spot to excecute...

...this is a game of inches.

(Pause?)
Indeed,… and the most important 6inches in the game is between the ears. Know your assignment, proactively communicate, and react to the play.
