There is a scrimmage today?

It has not. Just reminds me how stupid some are. For some of you to make bold statements that Golden is not giving Kaaya a fair shots simply asinine.

We have a bunch of whiners and ******* on this site. So some of you want Heaps out there even though he has a sore shoulder. And what, have hurt it enough that he gets injured to miss games that count? You want to role into Loserville with two Frosh QB's. Boy, get your popcorn ready for that.

So it's not fair if Heaps gets the nod over Kaaya because he did not compete in the second scrimmage? How about if the coaches took the opportunity to see Kaaya that much more. Perhaps the coaches are on the fence whether to name Kaaya the starter and last night was his great moment to shine all on his own. Perhaps being a 5th year senior with game experience and has done what he has done in practice is enough for the coaches to name Heaps the starter.

I can go on with the what ifs, but some of you get the point.

This thread has not disappointed.

That QB at Boise St. a few years back carried a mediocre team on his back. Also that QB at Houston a couple of years ago did the same.

Sounds like Kaaya did fine. Didn't throw any picks, a couple of unfortunate drops, some misses, but all in all ok. Keep in mind this is a scrimmage. Looking at the play by play, we hardly ran the ball (probably to prevent Denzel from killing all our RBs) and Duke was out at halftime. That let's the D cheat towards the passing game a little bit. Won't be like that in a real game. I'm confident we can win with either Heaps or Kaaya taking the snaps.

Brad Kaaya doesn't sound so impressive. He'll start, but I expect Duke and Joe to get a lot of touches, Herb & Coley to get screens & reverses week 1. Hopefully, the defense can play well enough against Louisville

You have to think as well that, they have been practicing with him for months and the receivers.and even with that he is making some good throws. so they know them best then anybody. Jermaine Grace sounds ready to breakout this year for sure though.

Here are some of my thoughts from the scrimmage:

- I thought Brad Kaaya did fine. The rush was coming at him heavy and he was poised. At least a couple of the sacks may not have been sacks in live contact (including one that nullified a strike to Malcolm Lewis). His accuracy was spotty early (missed high to Walford out of his endzone) but calmed down as the practice went on. He made a beautiful throw to Dobard toward the end and led the team on a great drive that ended with a Walter Tucker TD catch. Most importantly he wasn't forcing anything. It wasn't a superstar performance but he didn't look like a freshman either.

- Malik Rosier has a great arm but is still wild. He looks like a baseball player with his windup and often misses high. Coley played to his strengths and rolled him out a bunch.

- Joe Yearby is making a strong case for the number two job. He is decisive and has excellent moves. His 33-yard-run looked a little like Frank Gore with the way he hit the hole. He also made a nice catch on a wheel route. Gus Edwards made a couple nice runs but Yearby has outplayed him in both scrimmages. Trayone Gray tripped on what could have been a huge run. On another play, he reversed field and got back to the LOS on pure speed. He's not there yet but with more reps and better conditioning he will blow up.

- Braxton Berrios was my offensive MVP. He catches absolutely everything and is the most QB-friendly player I've seen on Greentree since Shockey. He also had a nice little first-down run on a screen. Tyre Brady is also coming on strong and caught a short TD from Olsen where he used his body to create space.

- We have some extremely fast LBs. Jermaine Grace was exceptional and Perryman was Perryman. This may sound crazy, but I don't see how we can keep Nantambu Fentress off the field. That little sucker is everywhere and plays at a different speed than everyone else. Juwon Young and Darrion Owens are also blazing fast.

- The most positive development of camp for me is the development of Calvin Heurtelou. He is becoming a legit NT and was clogging things up beautifully.

- Anthony Chickillo continues to play at the highest level I've seen from him. He deflected Kaaya's first pass and was a terror after that.

- Chad Thomas got multiple pressures from the inside and outside. He is coming on very strong and will make an impact this year. Justin Tuck pt 2.

D,

Million dollar question. Give us your honest accessment of the Oline and what you think of it going forward?

He's been practicing against the same defense for months also. He should be used to them and how they play.

But you can't start Jake Heaps. If Miami starts Jake Heaps, they will lose to Louisville...

Another way to look at that is he's been practicing against the same defense for months. They know how he plays and the routes the receivers run.

should we be worried that dorito's defense still gives up 8-10 yd plays at will? Gonna be a long night between the 20's. Again.

Defense looks good.
"THE OFFENSE SUCKS! THE SKY IS FALLING! FIRE EVERYONE!!"

Offense looks good.
"Same ole D'no! THE SKY IS FALLING! BURN EVERYTHING! FIRE EVERYONE!"

Both looked okay.
"Mediocrity!! KILL EVERYTHING!"

Oh to be a Miami fan...

Has this staff shown you other wise? We haven't beaten a team that has finished in the top 15 in BCS at the end of the year since we beat Georgia Tech in 2009! That's a Randy Shannon coached team 6 years ago. Until they prove other wise there is no reason to provide the benefit of the doubt. Especially when throwing a historically bad defense out there and a true freshman that has been OK in practices. I believe Kaaya is still our best options but when it comes down to winning games our best option might not be good enough this year. Therefore I believe Heaps or Williams starting and redshirting Kaaya would be the best route to take.

Why does the QB have to carry the team? Why does that matter?

We have Duke Johnson. Does anyone know how many teams would kill to have a Duke Johnson? Here is an interesting thought, give the playmaker the ball. Let him be the focal point of our offense. Get a **** QB to feed the ball to our British TE, Coley and Duke.

Enough of all the BS

1. Actual improvement in the ACC (6-2, 7-1 or 8-0)
2. Win the coastal, and
3. 10 Wins before the post season

In 2005 Oklahoma had someone named Adrian Peterson who rushed 1,208 yards and 14 touchdowns on 220 carries, finishing second in Big 12 rushing yardage and they still finished 8-5. The only position where a stud like that matters (without help around him) is the QB position.

After a thorough analysis of "reporsts" from people who did not attend all practices and who saw some practice videos it has become clear to me that the clear choice to lead our team, ceteris paribus, is the guy who has not been reported to make any mistakes: Isaac Hosa!

LOL, true dat. No matter who starts it will be second guessed win/lose.

My unnecessary opinion is an average healthy Heaps is better come game time than a true freshman on Labor Day.
I just want the Canes to win that game. Worry about the next game after.

I'm glad the D didn't hold back on blitzing last night. Kaaya will be seeing it quite a bit if he is the starter. Second actual live action and they brought the heat. I think Golden wanted to get after him to see how he would respond. It sounds like he did a decent job which is pretty good news for a true frosh. If he would have melted then we would have a little bit to worry about. I think Kaaya will take the reigns and not look back. Good way to light a fire under or O line too.
