There is a scrimmage today?

I'm expecting a big year regardless from McCord and Muhammad on the pass rush. So I'll leave it at that, we'll agree to disagree.

We're of the same mindset. I agree with you, 100%.

I just don't see how Cane fans can negate what Tyriq has actually done in games, at big moments. He got to Driskel in a 5 point game and forced the turnover that won the game. He helped destroy any chance at a GT comeback. He also got a big sack to force the punt that started the winning drive against UNC. He is on the same level as AQM, which is a good thing. Only Cane fans can knock one of their own players in order to bump up another one.

This. I would take McCord over AQM but there isnt a wrong answer. AQM probably has a higher ceiling but until he shows more of a improvement like McCord already has then im going with Tyriq. Both of them should make big jumps this season and that will help everything if they do.

I haven't seen much to suggest that McCord and AQM are going to start together at OLB. Is McCord even in the mix with Armbrister and Owens?

Been reported both our in our pass rush packages in the 3-4 off the edge at OLB and also off the edge at defensive end for 4-3 and nickel situations for pass rush. Working with first team.

I understand they will be our pass rush packages. McCord, Thomas, Kamalu, AQM is my guess in pass rush situations.

I haven't heard much talk about McCord even being in the mix to start at OLB opposite of AQM, I know Armbrister and Owens have both mentioned.

I don't get why people forgetting McCord too. We got 3 pure pass rusher studs. Tyriq,Quan and Chad.

Chick different, not a pure pass rusher. But I'm feeling a good year for him.

And I think we got 2 or 3 other pure pass rushers in Harris, Jackson, Smith in the wings. With a lot of potential.

McCord is a stud but just not on the same level though. At this point though we need as many pass rushers as possible though......
Idk about that. Feel like McCord showed flashes last year and could make the next step this year, becoming even more consistent and stronger now along with more time on field. Muhammad showed flashes too, but both were limited last season. Their roles will increase though.

I feel McCord was a stud for how limited his role was last year. 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 ints. And this year his role is increasing by a very big amount.

I know McCord, Muhammad, and Chad were all top guys coming out.

Would put McCord and Muhammad in same tier. Can be great.

If anything I would put Chad on a different level than them. Chad can be elite.

Chad is truly elite. I feel McCord and Muhammad are good and can become great. But I think Chad is one of the more truly special rare players. I personally wouldn't put Tyriq or Quan in that category.

Either way. I see all 3 having the potential in them at some point in their career to pull out a double digit sack season here.

As of right now, I'd probably rank their ceilings as

1) Chad
2) AQM

3) Tyriq

Note the space

This I can't agree with. McCord has shown the ability to disrupt the QB as well, coming down with two ints, in limited time too. Forcing 3 fumbles and 4 sacks all in limited time.

I'm not knocking Muhamad at all. But I don't see this thing of favoriting Muhammad over Tyriq. I feel both are a very similar mold. At this point, Tyriq is more proven too.

Chad the highest ceiling obviously.

We'll see after the season. But I expect great things from both McCord and Muhammad and for Chad to impress us in some ways as well.

We'll agree to disagree.
Geo, I understand your point about McCord showing more actual production than AQM. We must take into account however that McCord was a Sophomore last year while AQM was a true Freshman.

I view AQM as have a higher ceiling than McCord. I can see AQM becoming a more versatile and complete player than McCord as I see AQM as having a much higher ceiling as a run defender. I would also rank Thomas as having the most potential of the three.

1) Thomas
2) AQM

3) McCord

As of right now I would actually put Trent Harris and Demetrius Jackson ahead of McCord in terms of projected ceiling. This is based solely on my gut feeling. Keep in mind that I love McCord as a player and think he has great potential. We could have a very special group here.

Here's a post from Rivals board with some play by play. A mixed bag but should calm some nerves:

"Here is a non-exhaustive play by play from my vantage point for those that are interested. It was a situational scrimmage so highlights will be choppy:

Drive 1) Just as we arrived: first team with Kaaya in, Yearby with a 50yd run (apparently was listed at 35 yards) and Kaaya with a 10yd td pass to Coley

Not participating: Heaps, as noted, with his right elbow in a black compression bandage. Raphael Kirby still held out.

Drive 2) Second team with Rosier at qb: Trayone Gray 10 yard run to the outside. Runs tough and hard.

Rosier throws near pick to Jermaine Grace. Bobbled out of bounds. 3 and out

Drive 3) Defensive goal line with Kaaya at QB - Stretch run play to left with Duke stuffed by Denzel. Kaaya connects to Lewis, but can't make first down to 10 yd line. Three and out

Drive 4) Olsen starting at midfield - completes 15 yd pass to Herb Waters (not sure)

Joe yearby - 10 yd run

Gus Edwards picks up tough first down

Joe brown banged up. Limps off field.

Olsen lofts very nice 15 yd td pass to Tyree Brady in the corner of end zone.

Drive 5) Kaaya with first team:

Kaaya overthrows Dorsett on a fade

Duke dropped for a loss by Chickillo

Kaaya completes a 30 yd pass to Malcolm Lewis down the middle but it is called back because of a sack. IMO, would have been complete in a game. Regardless, results in three and out.

Drive 6) Rosier in with second team.

Rosier throws a 50 yd bomb to Herb waters. Hits Waters in the hands; bobbles it and drops it

Sack on rosier

8-9 yd pass completed to Braxton Berrios. Not enough for first down. Another three and out.

Drive 6) Kaaya in with first team from the 35.

Duke smooth 8yd run, stretch to the left side.

Kaaya sacked while going through his progressions.

Kaaya sacked again. This time by Muhammad, I think. Kehoe yelling. Ugly.

Third and fourth team take a couple of series with Isaac Hoza and some walk-on at qb wearing #2. It was an abomination on the eyes which isn't worth detailing and ended in an interception on a terrible throw by the walk-on.

Half time. Field goal interlude:

Goudis misses 30 yd fg, 40 yd yd, 45 yd fg. Makes PAT. Goudis kicks an ugly, low line drive. Hope he gets better fast.

Michael Badgley (unknown) comes in at PK and makes three of four longest from 45. Ball flight looks better than Goudis.

Third kicker comes in and makes two; misses two.

Second half. Duke is out of his pads; looks done for the day.

Drive 7) Kaaya with the first team from own 20 yard line:

WR screen to Coley which he turns into 10 yard gain.

Yearby up the middle, stuffed by Courtel Jenkins

10 yd pass to Walford.

10 yd completion to Malcolm Lewis. Kaaya getting into rhythm.

Edwards couple of tough runs for short yardage

Kaaya just misses Beau Sandland down the left sideline for what would have been a huge gain. Sandland could have laid out for it, but instead bounces off his hands.

Yearby with a zizagging run for about 10 yards to the defense's 30.

Kaaya completes a 20 yd pass to Dobbard. Might be his best pass of the day.

WR screen to coley. Ball bounces off Coley's hands

Kaaya 9yd td pass to Walter Tucker

Drive 8) Rosier in. Ball sails over head and he manages to pick up to throw out of bounds.

Yearby a couple tough yards

Rosier mishandles the snap; sacked by Grace, mercifully ending the possession.

Drive 9) Kaaya in with first team.

Complete 15 yards to Lewis in traffic

Completes 10 yards to Lewis

Sacked again.

Denzel Perryman hits Gus Edwards for a loss with a sound like a car accident. Lots of oohs.

Drive 10) Olsen in with second team.

Trayone Gray with a nifty run for a modest gain, but shows off his speed. He broke first to the right and then doubled back left and ran half the field to get about 5 yards.

Olsen skips a pass to an open receiver. Drive ends in three and out

Drive 11) Rosier in with second team. Pick by Thurston Armbisrer on Rosier for td.

Drive 12) Kaaya starting from the 35 on hurry up offense .

Lazers a pass to Tyree Brady on an out route for 15 and a first down. Showed good arm strength there.

RB pass to Yearby for short gain

Kaaya misses Brady on second down, similar to play before last.

Artie Burns breaks up Kaaya's final attempt intended for Brady down the middle. End of scrimmage.

VIPs in attendance: Sam Bruce and Jordan Scarlett, getting shown a lot of attention by Kevin Beard."

Glad to see braxton is back in good form. I expect him to have a big impact this year, especially if Kaaya gets a lot of burn

Brad Kaaya doesn't sound so impressive. He'll start, but I expect Duke and Joe to get a lot of touches, Herb & Coley to get screens & reverses week 1. Hopefully, the defense can play well enough against Louisville

Man I was hoping Kaaya would perform as advertised, it's a tough spot and will be a tough year. I think Williams will come back take the job and Kaaya's redshirt year will be wasted.

Better than heaps....

That was going to be the plan regardless of the QB.

Sounds like kaaya managed the scrimmage well. He had a good but not great day and I will take that for a true freshman. Some of the pressure came from the olineman mix and matching the starters and backups while going against some of our best pass rushers. We will be good..

And in our rush packages it's McCord, Kamalu, Chick and Quan. Chad working his way in there.

With a true freshmen in the game Louisville isn't just gonna let us run the ball. Kaaya is gonna have to make them play honest with some early playmaking. We also shouldn't get too worried over one scrimmage because it sounds like they were experimenting with new OL packages and such. Not to mention, all the fans that said Golden is scared if he doesn't start the freshmen can't get upset when he plays like a freshmen.

Very hard to simulate the speed of a game. Hopefully this scrimmage lowered the learning curve. On the upside defense sounds good. I mean our 3rd/4th team NT stuffed a play in the backfield, and we lived in the backfield as a team. My guess is he travels to Louisville. BTW, if Gus can get those tough yards, our running game can be spectacular.

Sorry dude, can't agree. We'll agree to disagree. We'll see this season. My boat is the Tyriq and Quan bring terror, Chad impresses many as a freshman boat.
