The Work 2-3

i know it has been discussed a million times but I really don't see a single advantage to the "scheme" that Miami is running right now.

no pro

all cons.

Good to have you back Pete. I have come to terms with TV's sale to LSU. The upside is his loss kills Al's 3-4. No NT for Al. Class has fine DTs for a 4-3 though and great DEs for one. I am hoping Al has no choice for to change. I like getting Treon now. Clearly FSU used him so maybe him and Ice will be more reasonable if he doesn't make it at QB. Between this and the whole "we own your rear" last year with the LB, BTW should have a clear vision of what the criminoles are like.

Courtel Jenkins is a NT all day and twice on sunday. Not to mention there are several under the radar types out there.

Remember AG when he was a 3* Temple developed NT Terrance "Pot Roast Knighton who plays for the Denver Broncos.

Go Canes

IMHO people are sleeping on Jenkins. Ideally we would be able to redshirt him, but I think he can come in and help right away. TV would have been more likely to have an immediate impact, but Jenkins is a very good NT prospect in his own right.

I love Jenkins. I don't see him being ready to do anything at that position as a true freshman other than get physically abused. It would be criminal to expect him to come in here and give us much in light of what we ask our DTs to do.

I agree he'll be limited as a 1st year player, but I also think he can give us some quality play relatively early, and he projects very well long term. I don't know that TV would have been ready to play much more as a Freshman either. It's rare a DT is physically ready to play his first semester on campus, but that's why we have two JUCO kids coming in to help immediately. Hopefully Wyche gets everything done in the classroom he needs to get done. Either that or Earl Moore needs to take a huge step forward in his 3rd year here.

Not sure why people are bashing our recruiting class when it's in the top 10 in the country. Should it be in the top 2 coming off a 9 win season, where FSU won the title? Just seems unrealistic to think that anything besides top 3 is an utter disappointment.

It won't be on Wednesday. We are currently at 8, 8, 11, 11 on the big 4 services and the other schools are actually going to close by adding players, not losing them.

CaneSwag, yes people are going to be disappointed with the recruiting class. Florida is coming off a sorry a** 4-8 season and will land a top 5 finish, yet we can't even keep local kids within our own backyard to stay home. Dalvin Cook - Fail, Ermon Lane - Fail, Sony Michel - Fail, Johnny Dixon - Fail, the list goes on and on.

I've been following recruiting for many years and I've never seen a local talent base bail on the home team like Miami. Could you imagine if this happened to Texas. Until a few years ago, they got EVERY player in the state of TX they wanted.

Honestly, if we switch to a 4-3 base defense, I think we solve a lot of problems. All of the guys we have at DT, except for maybe Courtel and Wyche. Even our DE's are 4-3 DE's. Yeah, McCord, AQM, DJ can play the jack lb position, but wth is the staff going to do with Chad Thomas? He's clearly not a 3-4 olb, too small and would be stupid to make him into a 3-4 end. Please give the 4-3 a shot staff!!!

The funny thing is contrary to what he thinks or what lsu sold him isn't tv a classic 3 4 guy? Certainly has the potential to make a lot of money in that role in the nfl. How many teams run a 3 4?

Yes and no to the TV question. Yes, in that he is capable of playing in both defenses. He's big enough to play effectively in a 3-4 defense; however, his best attribute as a player is his ability to get upfield. 3-4 defenses are 2 gap systems where you're just supposed to occupy blockers so the LB's flow through and make the plays. The OLB's are the ones getting the pressure on the qb. So, for TV, we want him to penetrate and be disruptive. IMO, for the players that we currently have, the 3-4 makes no sense, even if we still did have TV. In a 4-3, you want your DE's to be around 250-260 lb, right? At least in college, anyway. Not small enough to where they're not stout against the run or can't set the edge against the run, but not big and slow enough to where they can't get to the qb. Weren't AQM and McCord 240 and 235 last season, respectively? Reasonable to say that before next season starts, they'll be between 250-260, right? I think it could work.

As for the other question, are you talking about 3-4 defenses in the NCAA or in the NFL? No idea about college. I can't really see that many because guys generally aren't big enough to run that at this level, but I have no clue. As for the NFL, I think around more than half of the teams run a 3-4 base defense. The number could change because of the coaching turnover, so different coaches bring in different DC's with different philosophies. But for our team, the "strength" of our "defense" is the secondary. Last year, everything defensively was a problem. I just think that it all stems from the deficiencies defending the run. A 4-3 defense would help in negating that deficiency or at least mitigating the issues because we would simply have more guys on the line who are comfortable with that system and actually know what they're doing. Anyway, that's my 2 cents, anyway.

Supposedly we have a hybrid 3 4 and 4 3. What percentage of time are we in the base 3 4?

I was referring to the nfl I guess it doesn't matter now as tv is gone and has used pretty much every excuse to justify the decision.

So, since we most likely won't get TV to recommit and Gaillard is iffy, does Courtel play right away? He would have been the perfect redshirt candidate. Who else do you guys think redshirts? I know we have 9-10 guys who are EE's, so that will affect whether they do redshirt or not, but I think Kaaya, Rosier, Linder, Herndon, Njoku, Langham, Brady, Harris, McCray, and Mayes RS. Yearby has to play this year for obvious reasons, Darling and McDermott will play, Berrios will get time in the slot, Gray won't qualify, Trent Harris will probably RS (especially if DJ doesn't), all the DT's probably play haha, and Gayot will play (would like to RS him, but we don't have too much depth at S).

It Takes Time Fellas, Give Golden time and we shall see every head coach deserves at least 4 years to get his players in there and change the culture around campus which he has & Also wait and see till players come in and buy into the whole situation. Remember Golden inherit a bad football team with far less talent than what we have in campus as of today so let him do his thing and if he doesn't do anything this upcoming season then start doubting the man until then give him a chance... We almost ran out Butch Davis after a horrendous season but we stick to the process and he manage to gather around the more talented football team to ever play in this BCS era and maybe of all times, 01'.
So let's wait and see we still have a few good players coming in and remember recruiting its a whole lot more complicated than back in the days so we won't be able to get them all until we start winning like back in the days...
