Miami AD Shawn Eichorst is a candidate for the Nebraska AD job as Tom Osborne is retiring...unrelated to the rivals story I received the following text from an old friend of mine that is very tied on a daily basis to the Nebraska Ath Dept

If true, and if offered, I can't say I would blame him for leaving given what he walked into. On the other hand, I would not want to live in Nebraska.

Does that mean the NCAA investigation is over?

He was hired to help out with that, and it should be wrapping up soon.

He was not hired to help out with that. The media here would throw a party if he left. IMO, the AD isn't a big deal for a couple of reasons. First there are a ton of good candidates to replace him, also we have good coaches across almost all sports right now. UM is working very hard to improve it's overall competitiveness in all the sports in which it competes.

That'd be a ****'uva jump, from an assistant to one year at Miami to the head of Nebraska. The NU job is a monster, good for him if he's qualified, but I would think they'd go higher profile. I sure wouldn't want to follow Osborne in that gig.

Garcia would be interesting, he's built a name for himself.

Having a strong AD is important for fundraising for the athletic dept., compliance and future hires. we may be in good shape now with coaches and future facilities ( Schwartz Center), but I think you're minimizing the importance of the position quite a bit.

I nominate Jimmy Johnson for AD. If Vince Dooley and Mike Belotti could do it, so can Jimmy.

I don't think Jimmy would want the job. With as much as he loves to go fishing and enjoying himself down in the keys, I am guessing he is done with full time jobs.

We need an AD that's an ace for raising money. That's the probably the most important thing next to compliance.

we should just hire whoever the lead investigator in our case is. just to **** with the NCAA.

According to several reports, UM Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst is a candidate for the AD position at Nebraska where Tom Osborne is retiring. Eichorst became UM AD in April, 2011 before the Yahoo Sports story broke later in August.
