The portal is a lie

I bet the NCAA will find a way to close this loophole.
NCAA desperately wants Congress to step in and set a national standard. The Lucas decision actually helps achieve that goal. NCAA will always be out lawyered when it’s so many conferences and state laws.

So the portal is just for decoration
Here’s how I imagine the conversation going between Lucas and an intermediary:

  • Intermediary : I imagine that right now, you're feeling a bit like Alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole? Hmm?

Lucas : You could say that.

Intermediary : I see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, that's not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Lucas?

    Lucas : No.

    Intermediary : Why not?

Lucas : Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.

Intermediary : I know *exactly* what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?

    Lucas : The NCAA.

Intermediary : Do you want to know what it is?

    Lucas : Yes.

Intermediary : The NCAA is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to practice... when you go to classes... when you sign your NLI. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

    Lucas : What truth?

Intermediary : That you are a commodity, Lucas. Like everyone else you were in inculcated into a lie. Into a prison that you cannot taste or see or touch. A prison for your college football career.
Lucas shakes his head.

Lucas : What are you trying to tell me? That I can just transfer from Wisconsin?
Intermediary : No, Lucas. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.

Agree, I had mentioned it’s going to be interesting in the Spring on Portal entry dates and enrollment dates to see if a precedent has emerged and players just unenroll at one school and enroll at another.
Any non athlete student can unenroll at any time, and use the services of the university to transfer to another school. Happens thousands of times per year. At this point, with the NCAA rules by the wayside, Scholarship students are no different and have the right leave. NCAA/Congress can attempt to change it ,but indentured servitude died with Slavery. The Portal has set them free. And they ain’t going back
