The official give Bobby Petrino a second chance thread....

Saban quit on the Dolphins. I'd take him

And he cheated on his wife. Its not like he had *** with little boys like Golden's heroes did

yeah lets hire the dude who quit on the team he coached and embarrassed Arkansas with his scandal.. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me.....I despise the guy too. He's a winner though and let's be honest it's been far to long for this University to toil in mediocrity. Jump on the Olive Garden wagon.

So.... He cheated on his wife with the affair, left the falcons during the season to take a job with Arkansas. Thanks but no thanks, he has no loyalty

Loyalty and high character guy... sounds like the guy we got now. He's so loyal to his best man that he refuses to make the change at DC despite giving up 500+ yards to every decent opponent we've faced.

Give me a guy that will come in here and is willing to sell his soul to win.

I'm down with a petrino hire, if not him butch, and if we hire someone else with a lower quality football record and it blows up in our faces, It will show that the pres and AD have no desire to win in the football field.

A great offensive mind with South Florida weapons?

I'm down!!

I was really excited about the Golden hire and really thought he could bring us back....right up till the 2nd half of the season. The guy was well spoken, organized, and seemed to be a good recruiter, everything the last guy wasn't. Why then are we still struggling giving up 500+ yards to avg ACC teams and an inconsistent offense? Yep, Duke going down had something to do with it, but its more than that.

Our recruiting base is predominantly SF which specializes in speed, speed, and aggressiveness on both sides of the ball. Golden comes from a Big 10, 3 yards and a cloud of dust style of football, the total opposite of what is taught or grown in SF. I don't necessarily think he's a bad coach, just that he is not the right coach for the U. You can't put a square peg into a round hole. You have to be able to put your players in the best position to succeed, not try and turn your players into the vision that you have for them.

At the end of the day, the only way we will ever get back to where we belong is to bring in someone that will properly utilize South Florida weapons. Attack, attack, speed, speed, attack, speed....

michael jordan was one of the biggest jerks ever, a complete *** hole, world class wife cheater, many of his teammates hated him. read the jordan rules book if you haven't. anyway those ruthless scum bag personalities are often times the ones that demand excellence and wont settle for second and are obsessed with winning, and will get you results. you say he embarrassed arkansas? he had them competing against top SEC teams and in a BCS bowl game, i'd take that in a second over the embarrassment i felt for the program witnessing the rustled bowl, where our players got punked and trampled on and didnt look like they gave a **** about it

No defense for Petrino?

I see a 49-7 win against Tenn, 29-16 win against K State, 38-14 win against Auburn, 44-28 win against South Carolina, etc in his last year.

That is a total myth.

The only one of those that's even remotely worth bragging about is the K State score.

Auburn was 70th in the country in scoring O; Tennessee was 106th. And South Carolina averaged 30 ppg, so holding them to 28 isn't exactly awesome.

I work with a guy who played center at Louisville when Petrino was coach there, says he has 0 personality it's all work with him, not sure if that's good or bad, but continued to say he is the best X's and O's coach out there.
Just my 2 cent, next to butch I could go with the hire
Good . We need a coach who's gonna work our players , not someone who's gonna be nice and buddy buddy with them

Actually Petrino is paid a salary of $850,000 per season, a major pay cut from his $3.5 million annual salary at Arkansas. Petrino will owe Western Kentucky $1.2 million in buyout money if he leaves before the end of the contract.

Petrino salary article from WKU

So paying him $2 million would be a bump up with heavy incentives that could get him to the $4 million range, and a progressive raise structure with a $8 million dollar buyout. Structure could $150K for Keeping up UM's APR, $200K for winning the coastal and making the title game, another $250K for winning the ACC Champ game, $150K for making the playoffs, another $150K making the National Champ Game, $200K for winning the National Champ. So that is $1.1 million in bonus's and there could be a 5% annual retention increase to his $2M salary. This could be a 5 year contract also when taking into account Florida doesn't have a state income tax that would be effective 10% increase in net.

Go Canes

Tom Coughlin, who has been around a ton of great football coaches in his long career, called Petrino the best offensive mind he's ever been around.

I highly doubt Petrino happens. Would absolutely be thrilled but I think Butch is the most logical. You win in the trenches and that man can racruit the **** out of em

Count me among those who would give Petrino a chance. He's great coach and I think he'd relish the idea of being relevant again, but more importantly I think he'd stay long enough for us to win big. He's already done the NFL thing, and if you can win MNCs at UM, why go elsewhere? So I'm in.

This is one of those moments in history where true greatness is at your fingertips.

This is like Bill Gates buying DOS off some mope, then licensing it to IBM.

This is the moment where we can hire Robert Petrino for pennies on the dollar.

Seize greatness.
