The official give Bobby Petrino a second chance thread....

I work with a guy who played center at Louisville when Petrino was coach there, says he has 0 personality it's all work with him, not sure if that's good or bad, but continued to say he is the best X's and O's coach out there.
Just my 2 cent, next to butch I could go with the hire

That's the exact thing people used to tell me about Gus Malzahn when I was pushing for UM to hire him. No personality. All work. I'm done with used car salesmen with ebullient personalities and empty heads. Give me a football nerd who is going to teach our players how to whip the opponents and not sit around picking his nose thinking up catchy hashtags and building pillars.

I'm looking for that never-ending salad bowl!

Good. We need to get to work. Miami was built on tons of it. Not speeches

You are right....he has probably never even met Donna.

Lamar has nicer rings than Donna.

The classier the guy (Golden) the worse the coach.

Jimbo is a huge douche. Why do you think 6 assistants left him last year?

Saban and Meyer are about as bad as it gets personality wise.

Spurrier is a massive c**ksucker.

These tend to be some of the more successful people in life.

I like Bobby P and all but what are we gonna do about Defense? This guy CLEARLY doesnt believe in that aspect of the game. Prob doesnt even go to the defensive side of the field during practice. He is the Mike D'Antoni of College Football. Arkansas defense was a joke while he was there. And defense is our #1 concern..does he have any ties to defensive coaches?

Petrino would still be at Arkansas if not for the issue.

He went to the Falcons and realized the NFL was a huge mistake for him. Hey...it happens (see Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Butch Davis, etc.)

Recruit and go to a more Miami style D and I think we'd improve instantly

His defense improved at Louisville. With Petrino its about getting the right DC

You hire a good DC...which Petrino will let do his thing. You end up with 2 good "X's and O's guys" running each unit and then fill in the rest of the staff with the best recruiters you can get.

It's a receipe for Dominance. I would call the hiring of Petrino "the return of the shallow cross".....the re-taking of the middle of the field.

Go back and watch his offenses and then picture Berrios running the underneath cross with Coley coming in over the top on a post. Don't forget the constant screen passes to free Duke up into space.

Holy ****. Anyone that doesn't have the vision to see the potential there should rethink life.

No defense for Petrino?

I see a 49-7 win against Tenn, 29-16 win against K State, 38-14 win against Auburn, 44-28 win against South Carolina, etc in his last year.

That is a total myth.

I would love Petrino. Purely based on results, he is the best coach that we could reasonably hire. Makes less than $1 mil a year at WKU, so you wouldn't have to break the bank to get him. With the buyout money we would get from PSU for Golden, you have the cash to surround Petrino with a staff full of recruiters (one of Petrino's deficiencies) and a rockstar DC. Get it done.

You can get Petrino for 2 mil a year with a hefty buyout.

The guy is desperate to get back into the scene.

His defense can't be worse than the sh*t we've been fielding for the past few seasons

to those questioning his character i dont care that guy can flat out coach circles around golden......seems to me miami has been getting its asses handed to them lately with these nice guy gentlemen coaches, *** that give me a dirt bag now, a scum bag, an ******* to run this program. those seem to be the types that win i.e saban, meyer. i'm fed up, give me a competent X and O's guy a winner

At the very least we need to interview the guy. If, after the interview and fact checking, you don't feel he's a good fit.......then fine (well not really, it'll still be stupid). If we don't even look at him it will be very telling.

Erickson had no personality at all either.
