Jesus it’s amazing the hard on that Mario has for candle it appears two off-seasons in a row.

That’s because at his best I just think he’s a good OC candidate not some elite guy like a Kliff K or Monken that should be given this respect
IMHO.. smoke screen. No idea which side is putting it out there and why but I don't think it's legit just from my experience seeing this stuff. Last year it was legit and he had valid reason to want to stay at Toledo. The terms couldn't have changed much and wouldn't take this long to decipher and make a decision. The situation is just convenient for both to get something in return.

Not to mention they share the same agent which makes things even more convenient and easy for the smoke screen to go up

Every hire he has made so far has kinda come out of left field so it’s logical to think this

I expect the same thing to happen here again

Mario wants Coley on staff, period.

If the NCAA created a Long Snapper coach position tomorrow, Mario would give it to Coley.
I would not be surprised if this was the hold up with Candle but I am just speculating. I think Candle wants to bring 1 or 2 staff members. We will know if Candle is the guy or not soon.

I do not mind him as a WR/TE coach. He is an elite recruiter and we can use some help at WR.
Is Fields moving off field still a possibility? Obviously Fields has been a beast recruiting TEs, so don’t think he needs to be pushed out or anything. Not sure if Kevin Smith is liked by everyone but he is someone that can clearly be replaced - especially for a top recruiter or someone that OC really wants to bring with him.

It may be legitimate and the ND opening threw a wrench in it. They're more geared up to win in 2023 with a legit OL, Sam Hartman, and good skill players and will likely have a successful offense. Candle wants to pivot his next job into a P5 HC job and ideally it would be 1-2 year thing. ND is probably more appealing.

Not very convenient for Miami's situation anyway. We need someone to either be here for 2-3 years or build a foundation and install and offense that can be replicated and carried on into the future. Similar to Saban hiring Kiffin.

Nobody knows how that would play out. Maybe they pass on him because people thought Dykes was the brains to the offense. Rhett wasn’t exactly running the same stuff from Auburn and UConn.

I’m just saying having success here as a coordinator speeds careers up. It can make you pretty fast or break you.
I don’t disagree but you just called the OC position at SMU one of the worst jobs in football. That I guess would make the HC position there almost one of the worst jobs. LOL

I… am… ruthless and seek every edge…
I don’t buy it for a second. I’ve always thought you have a kind way and an angelic face.

Recruiting prowess is the only valid reason. Mostly for positions other than ones he actually coaches as he's a legit ace recruiter that can land anyone at any position.

However, look at his room at A&M.. lots of talent that he's whiffed on the eval or not developed. He's not a value add coach. As sad as it is.. his best position that he coaches is QB where he is somewhat decent.
I figured as much. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who is crazy about his coaching ability. Would be ideal to get a good X and O guy for the OC and then bring in Coley to cover for recruiting.

That last paragraph has me thinking it's someone like Brian Johnson or equivalent. Someone who can run a Mullen-esque offense with NFL elements - an offense that can then be replicated, tweaked, copy-pasted etc by subsequent OCs with NFL OC aspirations.

This is 0 information and just a gut feeling but my sights are set on someone either from the NFL or some kind of NFL influence. Last year it was all Joe Brady, Dorsey, and Coen (1 year removed from the NFL) until Gattis came into the picture. The college guys were quickly weeded out because they ride coattails of guys like Heupel, Riley, Dykes, etc.

It's easier to vet NFL candidates because teams aren't holding guys back from "promotions" to OC even in college and you have connects in guys like Zo who knows everyone. Mario is also tight with Darren Rizzi and Dennis Allen from the Saints, McVay, and others at that level. It's a lot easier to vet and get feedback on those guys.

I'd be surprised if the OC isn't in that mold: Joe Brady, Dan Pitcher, Shea Tierney, Rob Calabrese, Drew Petzing, Parks Frazier, David Girardi, Bo Hardegree, Kevin Patullo, Brian Johnson, Andrew Janocko, Chris O'Hara, TJ Yates, Ronald Curry, Cam Turner, Spencer Whipple, Jake Peetz - only a few of those guys have legit reasons to hold up any longer because they're still playing.. some still in the conversation for NFL OC jobs. Could be another reason.

Also wouldn't be surprised to maybe pivot to seasoned NFL vets that aren't coordinating an offense right now similar to Georgia hiring Monken - Greg Roman, Freddie Kitchens, Darrell Bevell, Mike McCoy, Jay Gruden, Greg Olson, etc. - doubt many/if any of them would go for it aside from maybe Freddie Kitchens who is on staff at USCjr

You are the Liberty City El/memnon of NFL assistant coaching names...

Also IF that's the direction Miami goes (NFL), it also tells me that Zo is addressing your earlier point about the GM-head coach personnel relationship. Which would be great news, IMO.
