The Obsession With WRs Has To Stop

Missing out on jeudy was more about a recruitng battle (making a statement) rather than the recruit himself. Beating Bama was what we all wanted. Even if it was insignificant for them. This would have made a lot of other kids automatically chose us now that we're a landing spot for elite recruits.

But I believe we will be fine..championships are won in the trenches.

It's less of an obsession over WRs and more of an obsession over game changers. JJ, in this case, just happened to play WR

This board normally has half of its posts dedicated to WRs.

stop it.

I get it, its the flashy/glamorous position. But WRs don't win you titles. Super hyped WRs don't always live up to the hype either (see S. Coley, Aldarius Johnson, Deonte Thompson, Sam Bruce, etc) while the ones under the radar often surpass their expectations (Hurns, Dorsett, Benjamin, TY).

Jerry Jeudy, while talented, still needs someone to throw him the ball (which he now doesn't have since affirming his bammer commitment).

QBs often make their WRs great...not the other way around and we have Handsome Cade Weldon, Nkosi Perry, and of course Jack Allison.

Furthermore QBs can't throw the ball unless they have time and protection provided by a savage OL which is coming along nicely for this 2017 class.

Championships are won at the line of scrimmage. that's the way its always been and always will be.

We have a monstrous DL coming in and a solid OL being assembled for the future, so Jeudy and all these other overhyped WRs can kick rocks....someone like Harley, or any other WR that can catch and run will put up better numbers because he will have a better QB throwing him the ball.

stop it.

Cats comes for you, but I actually agree w/ this.
Im' not saying losing JJ doesn't hurt, it does. But 2 weeks ago he wasn't even in the picture, so anybody devastated because of this is emotional and soft shouldered. Look at the playoff teams this year and tell me how many super talented WR there is on their roster. Balanced, tough and overall talented team with excellent coaching staff is what it takes to join the elite club. Next 2 years we will have Richards and next year we have a better chance in getting Pope than the chance we had in getting JJ.

Hey OP I usually agree with you but on this one...........

Only reason some will downplay the importance of WRs is because we've struck out on every single premier target at the position in this year's cycle. Our woeful offense was the reason for our disastrous October stretch and now we're not restocking the cupboards with difference making talent to fill the voids left by Njoku/Coley.

Richards is going to be doubled constantly with no other established weapons to take pressure/attention away from him. If he goes down? We're beyond f*****. This is a massive problem.

I am glad you don't run a company or own anything significant in life. No hope is your new nickname

The truth hurts, but its the truth. I'm tired of hearing, "We'll be OK" after every single f'n miss on a top priority recruit. This ish should infuriate any true Cane fan, including those who have on the Orange/Green shades on. This is completely unacceptable. We ain't FIU, FAU, UCF, or USF...we're THE U! Yet, we can't get our own way:

-Easy schedule? Don't worry, we'll find a way to lose 4 games in October to sub par teams.
-Start 7-0? Don't worry, we'll just lose 4 of the of our next 6 games
-Coach goes 28-22 with the highest rated class in the Coastal? No worries, we'll keep him for another year

This is Miami football...

This, exactly this! It's about skill players...players who shine when the lights come on...guys who need the ball in their hands. We need as many as we can get.

I'm a WR slurper because I like accumulating weapons but anyone that thinks that Jeudy would've been a more important part of this class than Donaldson is nuts. And I think that's the case with a lot of people because the term "program changer" appeared more on this board over the weekend more than anytime I can remember.

And we weren't throwing to, or hitting the receivers we had. Every team keyed on one thing - stuff our run and pressure Happy Feet.

October was the sorriest play calling I've ever seen at UM.

Coley lived up to his hype. You sleep.

Not his fault he got wasted away by Folden and had poor teams to play with.

You must have missed the 7+ TDs Kaaya missed to him this year too. Before you say anything on it, go back and watch. Started keeping tally of it cause it was unreal.

I get your point but lobbing Stacy in there makes no sense.

Championships won in the trenches like mentioned earlier.

You take dorsett burns etc. I'll THE COOPERS RICHARDS AND MEGATRON type receivers everyday of the week and twice on Saturday over your guys.

Wr's are important maybe not to you but they are.

I don't agree that Coley lived up to his immense hype. He had a promising frosh season, essentially disappeared in his 2nd and 3rd year, and bounced back with a solid season. he did 'ok'....not great by any stretch of the imagination. that's not 'living up to the hype' to me.

but what you typed sort of proves my point to why we need to stop freaking out about WRs. If you don't have a good QB and OL, WRs are worthless.
