The defense is hopeless...

Also, we had our big package in. Hagens was in. It's like, let's get our big personnel in and then run the ball on 1st and goal from the 2!

Fisch outsmarts himself sometimes. And I like him a lot. But, I wish he'd cut back a little on the cute stuff.

Fisch is the best OC we have had in a while, hands down. But I agree, he just gets too cute sometimes. If he cut that, I would be 100% satisfied with the O. For instance, I think I remember the end around that he always calls working like once or twice in the 100 times he's called it.

It has nothing to do with hindsight or looking at things in retrospect. It's football 101. When you are in that situation, passing the ball every down is asinine. I would love to be down in a game against a team you coached. Giving me mad opportunities to close that deficit, exactly what happened against NC St.
it has everything to do with hindsight .. If that ball is caught, like it should have been, there's not a single person ****ing not running there.. You can't judge the call based on the negative result..also, I've seen what happens when we try to run in short yardage situations, not pretty.
YES there ARE people ****ing. As soon as we lined up (like weown said), I was ****ing ****ed because I knew what was coming. Everyone in my section was expressing the same frustration. Like I said, if the ball is caught, of course I am happy with the TD, but I still am pretty upset at the risky playcall. It's called being able to rationally watch a football game. I guess you can't take your orange and green glasses off.

I've also seen what happens in short yardage situations. I was on the field, in the endzone Jacory couldn't convert in, during the K-State game. Guess what? That was last year. I'm trying to think of short yardage situations on the goal line where we got stuffed this year. Remind me if you can think of some.

That's the funny thing, you act like i'm being irrational, when in reality the people *****ing about the call have 0 rationality.. they're *****ing because of the result. Our run game, in "clear" run situations is terrible.. I like the play call there, he was open and the ball hit both hands... that's all you can ask for in that situation.

What if the ball is handed off to clements and he fumbles? Do we ***** about the call? No.

Not so long ago everyone *****ed about our goal line O how we needed to mix in more play action etc.. because the run was getting stuffed... now, the run gets stuffed and we try PA and now we ***** because the tight end can't catch.. it's never going to end.. especially when people are *****ing solely on the result... Had that been a touchdown not ONE soul would have posted " terrible play call ".. no one.. but as has been mentioned.. hindsight is 20/20

I will shut up if someone can name me the last team to win a championship that featured an offense based primarily on the pass. I'm looking at the list from 1998-present and I don't see one team that operated like that.

What's that, Championships? Don't talk about Championships. Are you kidding me? Championships? I just hope we can win another game.

running the ball is a mindset. A mindset that this team doesn't have right now.
And no one will convince me we don't have the players to run smash mouth.
But Fisch is too pass happy to stick the the run and make it an identity.

Right now we're passing 60% of the time.
UF is rushing more than 60% of the time. Do they have more of a smash mouth players than we do? Heck no.

Out of all the things that Golden has signed off on this to me is the most perplexing. He needs to tell Fisch to balance out the offense.

1) UF actually has a big lack of proven WRs and a young QB that has clearly proven that he's not ready for primetime against top defenses (they had to run the ball 15 straight times or something vs LSU to win, and did, good for them.) He's thrown for less than 800 yards in 5 games with just 4 TDs. If Morris did that with our current W/L record, there would be a march on Hecht of ****ed off fans demanding to know why we didn't throw it more often. The Turds' best option is to run it a lot (they average about 210ypg) and lean on the defense, so you're dead wrong in your assessment of them.

2) While a little more balance against better competition would be helpful to keep the defense fresh with more time of possession, the OL has had problems creating holes against good and not-so-good defenses. You can't run the ball if you can't run block effectively. On top of that, Mike James is not an explosive player that can make something out of nothing, and the smarter teams we've faced have keyed on Duke in his limited touches, so that really puts us in a hole whenever we try to run. We're just not that good at it, for whatever reason you want to think of.

That leaves us with what we ARE good at: throwing it medium-to-deep (and often) to a group of talented but inconsistent receivers. And deep throws naturally suffer from a lower completion rate, so if we misfire more than a couple times (exhibits A and B the KSU and ND games and the number of blown opportunities) then the offense REALLY stalls out and puts even more pressure on the defense.

There are two issues that are more important than being able to run the ball that's hurting us IMO; Morris' inconsistency on short throws and the lack of a reliable TE threat. You can get away with throwing the ball 50 times a game in college these days and still win a bunch of games, but only if you can complete the majority of those 6 and 7 yard gimmes that extend drives and chew clock. We miss far too many of those, or if they're completed, they are not on target and take running momentum away from the receiver, instead of letting them go upfield quickly. Not having a tight end is crippling in the red zone, because receivers can get chucked off routes and can be stifled and double-teamed in close, but a 250lb TE is going to get whatever he wants against a corner or safety and can't normally be covered by a LB. Heck, we've actually seen this happen, except ours have their hands covered in Crisco and wear cement shoes.

How am I dead wrong in my assesment of UF? Like you state they don't have the players ready for primetime against top defenses.. Guess what? Neither do we.
And no one really expected Morris to put up a barrage of yards through the air. So no, there wouldn't be a march onto Hect demanding more passing yards if we're sitting at 4-2 with Morris passing for 800 yards for the season.

And I like how you down play James. James is the perfect smash mouth back. He's not a home run hitter but to be smash mouth you don't need home run hitters. At 220+ he has the body type to do it. Clements is a North/South RB which is the type of RB's you want for smash mouth.
Duke, while not big, runs hards plus he gives you a change of pace that would give defenses fits.

But like I said, it's a mentality that needs to be engrained by the OC. Feliciano is a absolute prototypical smash mouth Lineman. Henderson also.
The rest are adequate.

I just don't buy that we can't. We haven't tried. You can't try half assely and fail and say we can't. They need to stick to it, go in with the mindset, and they could.
Fisch just want's to implement this air raid that is not working at sustaining drives and eating up clock.

UF and Driskell went into Texas A&M and beat them on the road. Went into Tennessee...beat them on the road. Played LSU...beat them.

DCF, you been dem crazy pills lately.

I wish Morris could go into TAMU or Tennessee and beat them or play LSU and beat them too.

Had the ball for 30m and lead in time of posession...ran the ball 45 times...

Allowed only (and I say that loosely) 450 yards and 18 points. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't score.

I thought we came out a lot better in the second half on D . We held them to 1 field goal I think? It's bull**** that Morris gets hurt, I think if he doesn't **** up his ankle that x factor takes over and he makes a play to win. At the end of the day, at least we're not Texas fans right now...

fsu in 99 was a little under a 3-1 ratio of passing yards to rushing yards.
Their leading rusher ran for 815 yards. That doesn't seem like a non-existent running game to me.

i believe the criteria you set was a "primarily passing team", fsu in 99 was primarily a passing team, by the numbers.

We run can't score. We pass can't score. We play a hair better on D hold UNC to 18 points and still can't win. Maybe it's cause we are young but we can't seem to put a whole game together on both sides of the ball. Last week we should have led going into the half at ND. This week we should have just done more on offense. Especially considering our D came out aggressive in the 3rd quarter and did their part.

Not being able to put together a "whole" game is the very definition of being young.

Update after the Florida State game...

16 rushes which led to 10m ToP differential in favor of FSU.

Ain't winning games with that.

Fisch has been adamant about running 70+ plays on offense, as opposed to the 60-62 they ran on average last year. I like up-tempo and the aggressiveness, but not sure it fits with the overall picture right now.
I don't think it does either. While it has helped us win games, it has helped us lose them too. Double-edged sword.

But the fast paced offense hasn't caused us to lose any games this year. The 2 games we've lost would have been losses regardless of what kind of offense we ran.

"Fast paced" = "3 & out," over and over. Jed's offense has absolutely lost us 3 in a row. No defense can hold up when it is on the field as ours.
