This simply isn't true. We balanced last class with Carpenter and Bell from the portal. The idea that we need to be taking in day one starters from high school on the OL or DL is very bad one.

No one said “day one starters”. I said some in this class may not have the luxury of “sitting 2 years” meaning waiting until year 3 before they’re contributors and pushing the current players for playing time.

Carpenter won’t be here when this class arrives and Bell I believe will only have one season when they enroll. That’s assuming we don’t lose anyone to the portal which was already a concern as we approached the April 30th deadline this spring.

Jaden Wilkerson will not be a cheap NIL deal, he is on his 3rd high school in 4 years (Lake Highland Prep, Lake Nona, and now Edgewater). It's not necessarily a character thing he is a
highly competitive young man, who's family knows the young man's worth and more importantly how the recruiting game can be leveraged. Kids just don't hop around in south florida, they jump from school to school in Metro Orlando also trying to get more exposure in a tight high school recruiting environment do to proliferation of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

There are quite a few high quality 2025/2026 OL/DL in the metro Orlando ( Orange/Seminole/Osceola county) area.

Go Canes
There were some reasons kids left LHP that had nothing to do with shopping themselves around or improving their recruitment status.
But yes, you are right, there are several quality trench kids and some under the radar ones in the Orlando area also that Miami is recruiting that would be more willing to come in and sit for 2 years and develop and then be very productive and not ones that will portal as soon as they see they will have to be patient.

I never had us flipping Thomas.

I'll ask about his status. I focused on Wilkerson because he's visiting this weekend.

OK but didn't you report that UM coaches felt like they had a great shot at him? Maybe it was every other recruiting source except you…If so, I apologize

Buchanon
Z. Addison

Ask about them as well if you get a chance, thanks.

Bell has two years.

In terms of projecting starters from highschool whether they're 5 stars or 3 stars no one really knows.

Anez was a 3 star. Played year 1

Okunlola was a 5 star. Didn't play much/injured.

The OL is the last thing anyone should be worried about. We've either replaced in the portal or added needed depth.

I think it's situationally dependent. The class quality of 2023 was much better than 2024 for OL. Plus we desperately needed guys who could contribute right away. Last class we really didn't need anyone to contribute except a Center, and there wasn't an obvious HS Center who could start Day1. So we could afford to take HS developmental OL and Bell.

So we did what we should have done.

Lol

I love the offseason.

Jesus the last 2 pages were like a time warp to 2018. Did we fire Mario or something?

Lyle being Day 1 ready would be gigantic for this offense.

I don’t think CJ Jr is any more than a gadget player here, getting 5-ish touches a game. Fletcher isn’t playing this year no matter how much you wanna believe the coaches. (And you shouldn’t believe them for ****). CWH is very much a project. Allen is JAG.

Lyle being a real deal NFL back and that being evident from Day 1 would be MASSIVE. Martinez is gonna need some help. I don’t wanna see him carry it 250+ times.

Let’s put it this way: If 2024 Lyle is what 2023 Fletcher was as true freshmen, and that’s complementing a true RB1 upperclassman in Martinez, wheels all the way the **** up for this offense in every single aspect.
Fletcher not playing is such a ******* waste of talent. Can’t believe he got hurt in that stupid fkn game.
