The Bank (4/27)

Our recruiting needs to pick up. ASAP.

We had a great class last year, but so far this class has been underwhelming to say the least. I say that not because of the kids we have committed, I think most are good projects and glad to have in this class. However, I’m more concerned with the lack of momentum and our traction with blue chips so far.

We haven’t done much in the portal, and I’m “ok” with that as long as we are signing blue chip HS prospects. That does not seem to be the case so far this year. I’m hoping the staff is keeping stuff on the down low and we’re actually closing in on some of these guys. It’s early, but so far this class is very underwhelming.
It's April! We, didn't start our run last year til June / July.

We lucked into TVD playing out if his mind in 21. And still won those 7 games by a combined like 10 points. How easily could 7-5 turn into 4-8 with a few plays in all those close games. TVD was the lipstick on a big fat nasty pig.
You forget our D was swiss cheese with Mayo on top.

Ah, it is April. April. UM is hosting a record number of highly rated kids at DT, WR, OL, RB and is projected to land several of those. Some WR's, elite WR's are very interested but waiting to see wha the offense looks like ON the field. Re the portal, at THIS point we have no idea how successful Mario will be as the portal is still open for entries until tomorrow at midnight. There will be kids not making decisions for some time. Let's see what portal commits UM ends up with by the start of Fall practice, and then worry about the 2024 class makeup after UM beats Texas A&M.

I see someone posted a GIF to your post, too, but you decided to come at me sideways with your selective PMSing. The GIF was intended to be funny, but you took it as something personal and for yourself? That alcohol is clouding your mind with stupidity right now, so I take it that's why you are coming at me foul and confusing your side chick, or any chick for that matter, fantasy with a simple GIF, but I won't take it to heart; I never do, anyway. I hope you keep those sensitive emotions in check outside the internet and remove the sand from your ******, friend.
I wasn't coming at you, my guy, my bad if it seemed that way. I agree with u 100%.

My msg may have came across that way after re-reading it. But I really wasn't coming at you, but my apologies, I was speaking in generalities.

Brother, I misread that completely. I just had a baby, and I am lacking sleep big time. No excuses. I was an *** clown, and I am the one who is sorry.

I deleted my dumbass post.

Please accept this booty GIF as an apology. :)

One thing I have been considering...

...suppose a coaching regime is doing what Alabama did and working behind the scenes with several top athletes who have not yet declared. Getting prices agreed upon before an announcement. All of this could be going on without anyone's knowledge, and then on the 11th hour, Johnny McFivestar (defensive tackle) declares that he is entering the transfer portal.

In no universe would that team have been 10-2. Meanwhile, we could have been 4-8 or even 3-7. Most years, Virginia Tech and Virginia would have beaten us the way we played. I think it's unrealistic to assume we're better than a mediocre team right now despite the off season upgrades to date. And we're 2-3 years out from having a team we can be confident will hit double digit wins.

That said, I do agree that coaches were a huge factor in the losses, not just poor play and holdover bad culture. And we need to show progress on the field.

To correct something before, we were 8 (not 7 as I previously stated) points away from having 10 wins. We lost 3 games by 3, 3, and 2 points.

My point is that if you're going to look at the results and say we could've been 4-8 or 3-9, you can just as easily say we could've been 10-2.

The record is what it is. Yes, the record could've gone either way. You ask me what our record is that year, I say 7-5, not could've beens.

Things under Manny weren't good and he needed to be fired. They were far worse last year and paying the new guy double his salary for worse results, I've got an issue with that. He needs to step it up, end of discussion.

It wasn't just that Miami went from 7-5 to 5-7. It's that Miami at least had a chance to win every game in 2021 besides Alabama. In 2022 pretty much every loss was a beat down. The only game we had a shot in was UNC.

Also: I know the Texas A&M final score was fairly close but Miami made no attempt to win that game at all. They played to keep the score close and not get embarrassed.

Exactly. Our 2021 team going 3-3 in games decided by 4 points or less after TVD took over showed just how much great QB play can impact the record of a middling program. Once Mario hired Gattis, effectively killing our offense, we went from playing in toss-up close games to… well, we all saw what happened.

IIRC, this discussion involved those who compared Miami’s starting point when Mario took over here to USC’s starting point guard when Riley took over there. Both rosters were terrible, but anyone suggesting USC was in better shape coming off their 4-win season isn’t accepting reality. USC’s 2020 recruiting class ranked 63rd in the composite and dead last in the Pac-12.

A 5* QB in Caleb Williams and a 5* WR in Mario Williams followed Riley from OU to USC. The only Oregon players who followed Mario from Oregon to Miami were backup OL Jonathan Denis and Logan Sagapolu. Riley also got more out of less, as evidenced by how USC’s second leading WR was a former low 3* who transferred in from Memphis (Tahj Washington) and went from 11.1 YPC with just 1 TD with Helton/Donte Williams in 2021 to 15.7 YPC and 6 TD’s in 2022 with Riley. Meanwhile, it looked like a miracle anytime we completed a forward pass.

Riley is doing a tremendous job there and USC’s future looks very bright. Hopefully Mario turns Miami around, too, even if it was always going to take him longer than Riley but not because he inherited a worse roster upon his arrival.

We were not a competitive team last year at all you’re right

The record was one thing but the pure futility of the team made it the worst season I can remember. We literally had no chance in most games against nobodies
