The Bank (4/15)

I don't think the decision should be made based on whether they are slot or outside at all. It should entirely be about the quality of the player. Spend pretty big and get one of best WRs in Spring portal. I guess Ideally you'd want outside, because Daniels and Trader can also play inside, so it's not like you're slotting Toney in as the #3 WR and Starting slot, though he'd still get reps if he earns them...

Well said my man.

5 guys had at least 35 receptions (1 te) last year. Horton & Brown split reps out wide. 0 reason why Pena & Toney can't do the same inside.

Toney shouldn't have anything to do with bringing in Pena.
Ray Ray and toney can too

The same people *****ing about not taking Pena are the same ones that would ***** about starting him on the oustide because all our WR are too small.

We need bigger receivers. Bottom line. He doesn’t fit the bill.

Spend where necessary, not where it would be nice.

Is our slot set? The coaches know more and set priorities of what we NEED. A slot wr is obviously not on the top of the list.

Portal ain’t even open and y’all want to spend big on the first decent wr that enters
This is it. Complaining now assumes he’s the only guy out there which is never the case.

They know more about the conversations behind the scenes so I’ll be intrigued to see who goes in.

Not taking Pena in addition to the outside impact guy is probably less to do with receiver numbers and more to do with money not growing on trees. If you only have money for 1 impact receiver you make it count.

Good I agree with that decision on pena. He had a productive season but he isn’t a difference maker. Can’t keep putting dudes in front of your talented young players. Got to let them play at some point
Lol Toney just got here. If we talking about Ray Ray, he should have done a better job in his role. Brashard Smith and Horton were reserve guys at one point, still found a way to make an impact

uhhhh not wanting to spend money on pena when there is yet a WR1 who commands big money on the market?

If we dont spend the big bucks on pena we better use it to tamper a true WR1 and not just overpay for an non difference maker outside receiver.

Also soooooo how tf is LB not a priority ? Unless popo, wiley and adarius hayes stepped up but no reports indicate that????
bro fist off who the fck are you . lol. you dont know chit about what we doing good luck.

There certainly have been reports about them.
Hetherman is the lb coach. He’d know

The settlement doesn’t impact NIL opportunities. Players can still earn from outside sources. Correct?
Also, the House settlement will be challenged immediately upon the decision. Probably won’t hold up
The outside money would be capped and subject to a clearinghouse

No. Not at all. HelI to the no.

I don't think we need this cat one bit because he can't play outside. He had 1 year of marginal play with a premier college qb who surprisingly threw for more yards than Cam Ward.

Maybe Pena is a late bloomer? It doesn't matter. He doesn't pass the eye test either. The money we would pay him is not worth the squeeze.

And he’s been hurt more than healthy

This is the settlement that allows schools to pay players. So, more money (bigger deals) and a salary cap.

The cap on this is like 21 million, give or take.

P4 schools are going to be giving the lions share of that to football.

This will place schools in conferences like the Big East at a spending advantage as they don't have to kick back a dime to football.

I trust the P2 has already devised a way to scumbag their way into a favorable position.

The main message I'm getting about the Portal: the proposed House settlement and revenue share has shaken things up for everyone. Whereas the Portal used to be somewhat predictable, it is now a day-to-day process with wild swings. Here's the latest I'm hearing:

- As previously discussed on CanesInSight, Miami's top targets are as follows: an impact WR, a safety (possibly two), and a rotational DT. I expect Miami to add players at each spot. A LB is also possible if an impactful player enters the Portal (won't just take a body).

- While there were reports linking Miami to WR Trevor Pena (Syracuse transfer), that process is not nearly as far along as reported. One reason is that Miami is reluctant to block Malachi Toney from significant reps in the slot. Pena is a good player that will command a huge deal, but I think an impactful outside receiver is more likely at this time.

- Miami continues to feel good about where it's at with #1 overall prospect Jackson Cantwell (Nixa, MO). It's recruiting, and anything can happen on his visit to Oregon, but this is a strong relationship and a natural fit.

- As previously reported by CanesInSight, keep an eye on WR Brayden Robinson (Dallas, TX). Miami and Notre Dame led for him coming off his recent visit to Coral Gables, and Notre Dame just took a similar slot receiver/returner from Savannah (Bubba Frazier). He has high-end speed (10.4) and is extremely productive on the field.

- Miami is in the game with five-star WR and LSU commit Tristen Keys (Hattiesburg, MS). That will be a full process. One factor to consider: he recently signed a deal with Adidas.

- There have been rumors about certain players on the roster, and these things can change fast, but Miami feels good about where they're at in terms of roster retention.

- In addition to Toney, some names that look like they will contribute early coming off spring: TE Brock Schott, DT Donta Simpson and CB Chris Ewald.

Sounds like Miami already building a fixed excuse why they won’t land big dawgs(revenue case causing teams to spend bigger than usual) and staff worried about players leaving if they bring players in.

Toney is a dawg, been saying it since b4 he stepped foot on campus he just one of them ones. I for one am not surprised at how good he's looked, we see special WRs come in and make an impact right away as freshmen around the country, I know our fanbase likes to think Miami is exempt from landing WRs like that but its not crazy to think we finally have one of them types in Toney.
Don’t sleep on jojo. Mario is definitely loading up on the offensive side.

He will get to the defense in 5 years. 😂

This guy hits the portal and every writer links him to us immediately and says to keep an eye on him. Then it gets put out texas tech is also in the mix and now its "eh we're only looking for an impact guy" or "we got plenty in the slot". Yea who needs a productive all acc receiver. Sure sounds like you may be on to something

Pena has missed more games with injury than he's played. One good season with one of the best QBs in football.
