The Bank (4/15)

Ahhh that special time of year when the cries to address glaring needs are met with "resource allocation" and "there's limited resources BRO!"

Only for the calendar to turn to High School recruiting and then its...

"We're recruiting with the big boys"

"It sucks to be broke, so GLAD we're rich" as we belittle others and finally

"Mario won't be outbid, we are one of the top NIL programs and we will match any offer"........

Am I the only one that doesn't give a single **** whether the WR we add is Primarily Outside or Inside, as long as they are Really good?

Passing on Pena would be dumb if the REASON is because he's primarily a slot guy. A) Because he likely can play outside. B) Who gives a **** if he starts over Toney, that would be a good thing ultimately. If Toney is the guy we all think he is, he'll earn minutes regardless. It's not like 4-6 WRs can't see heavy rotation throughout games.

If we are choosing to pass or not pursue Pena immediately is because they expect or are hoping for a better player who is more worth that type of money, I don't really have too big of a problem with it. But they better make sure it pays off. To me Pena seems like a pretty decently high floor guy and someone you can be confident can walk right into a similar role Restrepo had last year. To me whether we get Pena or someone else, they better be ******* legit. I don't particularly care much that it specifically is Pena.

But Idk how yall read what was written and take that to mean the staff has decided they don't want a top WR lol. It seems like it's specifically being said they aren't just jumping on Pena. I mean @DMoney specifically said staff is reserving a big bullet to spend on WR this portal. Maybe that means they expect someone better to enter. Also maybe they expect Daniels or even Jojo to get heavy rotation in the slot as well. It's not like you can only put a Restrepo/pena type in the slot. Yall acting like Justin Jefferson wasn't like primarily playing slot at LSU.... To me not getting Pena doesn't mean we are stamping Toney as WR3 lol.

Also unless Pena is committing somewhere asap, there is still some time.

Slot depth in no order:

1. Malachi Toney
2. Ny Carr
3. Joshia Trader
4. Ray Ray Joseph.

Outside depth in no order:

1. CJ Daniels
2. Josh Moore
3. Joshia Trader
4. Daylyn Upshaw
5. Chance Robinson

AKA --- we're plentiful at Slot and poor at Outside.

While the comp to X is cool -- ain't no way in Namath we should take Pena with our remaining priorities.

This does not look good. Go look at UF depth chart at WR than look at ours.

No way we should take Pena because if you take away Daniels (who I like), whose production was on G5 level, you have like 10 career receptions from the other 7 names on that list and it’s “plentiful”? Lol, okay bet. If you are being sarcastic, which I hope, then my bad.

The reality:
1. CJ Daniels
2. Pena (if we got him, but Ideally we'd add a spring portal WR that is above Daniels imo)
3. Trader (Though by the end of season Trader could be #1)
4. Toney
5. Carr or Moore
7. Ray Ray
8. Chance or Upshaw

The only guys on that list that likely isn't at all a slot is Moore and Chance. The rest can all line up in the slot.

You're right, and that's my point. Do we really need a slot -- or, Pena? idts.

Uh are UFs WRs supposed to be considered good? In 2024 they combined for like 1k yards and then they got Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown. I'm confident basically regardless who we bring in as WR in this Spring Portal we will have a better WR group than UF. Eugene Wilson is good. Sturdivant is solid. Dallas and Vernell are very talented....

Do you think Pena ends up a top 5 WR in the Spring Portal?

No. Not at all. HelI to the no.

I don't think we need this cat one bit because he can't play outside. He had 1 year of marginal play with a premier college qb who surprisingly threw for more yards than Cam Ward.

Maybe Pena is a late bloomer? It doesn't matter. He doesn't pass the eye test either. The money we would pay him is not worth the squeeze.

Your #1 slot is 16-17 years old. I get he’s super talented but I’d hate to rely on a kid that supposed to be in high school to start for us on the inside.

I don't think the decision should be made based on whether they are slot or outside at all. It should entirely be about the quality of the player. Spend pretty big and get one of best WRs in Spring portal. I guess Ideally you'd want outside, because Daniels and Trader can also play inside, so it's not like you're slotting Toney in as the #3 WR and Starting slot, though he'd still get reps if he earns them...

“There have been rumors about certain players on the roster, and these things can change fast, but Miami feels good about where they're at in terms of roster retention”

Can’t afford any attrition among stars

In an ideal world, Joshia Trader is the starting slot. Probably his natural position. We're forcing him to play outside.

Outside depth is a priority over slot. It's that simple.
