The Bank (4/15)

Problem with that is Miami went “all in” again this year with a massive deal for a QB, and Toney should be in HS. I get he’s turned some heads, but we really don’t have the luxury to ease kids in at this point and put up with growing pains.

Last year was the best year we’ve had in a long time, but it still ended with a thud, and there are still questions about Mario and the program overall. We have to stack good to great seasons or this all has potential to turn toxic. Another way to look at it is, as good as last year was at times, with no ACC and no playoffs, it wasn’t so good that we can have even a small step back without the risk of a lot of the foundation crumbling.

Who is the better player today? It’s Peña. If you can get him while still begin able to add the pieces D mentioned, you get him.

We all hope and expect the defense to be better. That raises the overall outlook of the team. But you have to expect the drop from Cam to Beck will be, at minimum, small. Very possibly bigger. You can’t also lose Martinez, Horton, Arroyo, JG, and the best statistical receiver in the history of the school without equivalent replacements. The last thing we need is the defense going from a flaming bag of dog **** to above average, and the offense sliding back from best in the country to above average. We have to maintain something close to the offense we saw last year. A kid like Pena helps that significantly, and almost certainly more than a 17 year old Toney does.

Just my $0.02. I know there’s going to be a ton more movement in the portal.
Id also argue the hype toney is getting is similar to what lofton got last year and it never materialized in season. You need to replace a ton of production in JG, X, arroyo, and sam brown. I wouldn't bet my season on a bunch of WRs, who have talent and upside, but have maybe 300 career yards total among them. Not when its playoffs or bust. Dont repeat the same mistake as last year and sit here come next February saying "i wish we fortified our linebackers and WRs". Especially not with the investment already put in. And other teams like oregon, osu, texas etc all operate this way. Dont overthink this miami. Stack the rooms and may the best guy win.

I agree with the Pena news...I dont know why we bringing in all these slot guys. Tony needs hella reps and Pena aint coming here to sit or split reps.

We just need an X WR because I am still in the Chance Robinson camp to watch him produce.

So you’re proposing for Miami to sign Pena and have him on the field at the same time as Toney?

QB
RB
5OL
4WR

That’s an offensive package for a 2 min drill or down by 4TDs

Miami isn’t going to play 4WR and have Lofton on the bench.
Pena can start in the slot. He can also move outside when necessary (he’s taller than Restrepo) and Toney can slide into the slot.

Dawson will find ways to get them both on the field.

How do you turn down an all-conference WR with Restrepo-like stats? You make room for him.

This. It’s the other line of thinking where we dont stack talent at every position that caused us to waste the best qb in school history. Spending big money on Beck and not putting the best weapons around him is completely short sighted. Bring in pena and let toney battle. We cant have CJ, who’s got an injury history, and the next closest returning WR with 150 yards in his career. Complete malpractice.
This. Pena is not a #1 WR. This would be a massive disappointment if he’s the only WR to come in.

No LB smoke is incredibly surprising unless they whiffed on certain guys. I will be shocked if nothing happens in that room. This LB room is 24’ secondary room part 2.

Is the staff afraid we are going to lose Wes, Chase or Alderman? Lol. I promise you I could find better LB’s than those guys in the portal.

Mario better stop playing and open the check book to pay the big bucks in this portal. It could make the difference from a playoff team to a 9 win season.

Toney is a dawg, been saying it since b4 he stepped foot on campus he just one of them ones. I for one am not surprised at how good he's looked, we see special WRs come in and make an impact right away as freshmen around the country, I know our fanbase likes to think Miami is exempt from landing WRs like that but its not crazy to think we finally have one of them types in Toney.

We lose our top 4 WRs and TE and have an opportunity to add an all-conference player and some of you are saying “nah…we good…we gonna run with the young guys…experience is overrated.”

Pena is a no brainer that will provide that security blanket that Beck needs in this offense.
Same people that wanted Zacharia Branch but now theyre good bc of practice reports, what a joke a bunch of pussies

I’m all for developing players but there is no loyalty in CFB. Beard developed Horton and he left for Bama after his one good year.
I get that. But even tho y’all have turned on the kid ray ray has been loyal. He has sat and waited and worked. And it seems he might be finally putting it together. Then you got toney who is only a fr who looks like he can contribute right away.

Let those 2 guys handle the slot and don’t overpay for a 6th year guy with 1 year of production. We need a outside guy who can stretch the field much more than a slot

We like doing **** the hard way. We’ll be right back here in 12 months over compensating for the WR and DT spot like we just did for the CB spot after it ruins our season instead of just getting it right the first time. Putting all of our eggs in the basket of a kid who should still be in HS after paying big for a QB that needs weapons instead of taking one of the most productive returning WRs in the country is INSANE. We keep trying to cut corners and wait on “impact players” like they are 1.) a sure thing to even enter 2.) they will just gladly come to UM without a fight. But again, we like doing **** the hard way.

We need speed outside

Y’all want to spend big money on this? Good season but I definitely wouldn’t do it

My contacts up here in Clemson are hoping the house settlement gets thru, and are thinking if they can just get to that point they are going to be fine.

What I gather from Miami side is they dont want the house settlement or need it.

My takeway is the schools without elite collectives are wanting the rev share deal.

Someone correct me if my thinking is off.

Maybe @TheOriginalCane has some insight?
The ncaa is trying to get safe harbor from anti-trust… most I talk to think it will happen and go through. That’s the only way the house settlement has any weight. Otherwise they get sued into oblivion. @DMoney has more legal insights.

Miami is good without it and fine with it IMO. It probably takes things back deeper to the under the table stuff even tho it’s bigger money. Can make an argument for or against if

Pena is more like a luxury than a need. Im not concerned with having a TF start at slot, that’s not unusual and Malachi seems like that dude. Agree that we need a proven big body on the outside.

I hope the staff knows something we don’t about DT because I don’t feel taking some rotational jag is gonna do it there.
