- There are a few names I wanted to highlight on the current team. One guy who isn't talked about externally but is considered a big-time player inside the building is Matthew McCoy.

Comments like this are puzzling to me…I know Cooper is playing hurt with the ankle. But if this is the case with McCoy…Why can't we create running lanes inside? Almost all of our big runs this year have come outside.

Need to start moving people in between the tackles.

Adding just Hanks and Pickett would give us a top 7 class. Carter would be a nice interior pickup, and Wiley maybe the biggest LB riser in America.

On the Isaiah Thomas front, he was offered by the BIG 3 in Florida before his injuries. I don't know how the injuries have affected him, but this is a bigger framed safety that show real ability prior to all the injuries.

I'm not big on rankings brother. We are supposed to be building a powerhouse. You don't achieve that by nitpicking certain positions to recruit year to year.

2023 was the #7 class, with 284.64 points.

2024 was the #4 class, with 291.52 points.

And those metrics are relatively consistent over the past 2 years.

For example, 284 points would have gotten you the #7 class in 2023 (which is what we got) and also would have been the #7 class in 2024 as well.

291 points would have gotten you the #4 class in 2024 (which is what we got) and would have been the #4 class in 2023 as well.

So these overall numbers aren't wildly different, year over year. The problem this year is, the Top 5 all have super elite classes, it's not quite as top heavy as it usually is.

Ohio State is at 312
Alabama is at 305
Auburn is at 296
LSU is at 296
UGA is at 293

There are only 2 instances I could find in the last 20 years where 5 different schools all pushed 295 points. Usually 295 gets you well into the Top 5. It likely will not this year.

Fair enough.

With the bump to a roster size of 105, those numbers could go higher this year.

That sucks to hear about jaboree. Is he an early enrollee ? Can get him in and start getting rehab here. Lots of flips being talked about. That’s great and all but is always a risk to be counting on that

I dont know if it was him or Dylan Day but on his ESD show last year Coach Hayes did a breakdown on one of their film and I had to do a double take because I was like, Whooooooo TF is that?????? Definitely didnt expect to see that high level of film for such an under the radar recruit. Again, cant remember if it was Thomas or Day but Ive heard if Thomas didnt get injured he would have been a high level 4* recruit with offers from everyone in the country so we will see.

Big time tools. He's an athletic specimen who has been hurt a lot. When I evaluated his film last year I didn't realize how talented he is because his ranking is so low.

Take away all the stuff that is political in recruiting game and just put eyeballs on the kid and you'd think he was a lot more in-demand player.

Many players like that have never amounted to much, but he's the quintessential tools bet who also has some production when he's not hurt.

What do you need to add to get to at least 284? Well, adding some combination of DJ Pickett, Vernell Brown III, Ben Hanks, and Jarquez Carter would help.

IMO, when all the ink dries, this class will be somewhere between 6-9 (it is currently ranked #12 as I write this today, but really only 1 decent recruit away from getting to #10). Which is great. When you sign the #7 class, back it up with the #4 class, and back that up with a class between 6-9, you are recruiting in the top 5% of the sport. That's how you create championship depth. Go reel em in, Mario.

Important perspective here! It's also about year over year "fixing" a room. OL in 23, DL in 24, DB in 25. Pulling Hanks and/or DJ to partner with what we have committed is exceptional. OL, LB, RB, TE, Edge are there and we just keep adding to those rooms. WR is a tweener in that we'll lose numbers and veteran production after this year.

Think forward to the 2023 studs being SRs with this class as SO's and it's really, really exciting.

I also don't think Mario is "trying" to sign multiple 5-stars. We do our own evals, independent of what 247 says.

Some years, we may get multiple 5-stars. Others, we may get 1 or 2. Not too worried.
