The Bank (10/16)

To not go after the vt qb would be stupid . Watching them play tonight imo they’re the best team we play on our schedule. Those other losses because teams played them before they was clicking . They’re a real good team team , watch I expect them to win out
Drones would fit in well in our offense

Do kids really want to be the #4, 5 or 6 Bama recruit at their position though? I think a lot of the new reality is more parity not less. Hard to stack when your players can jump in the portal at literally any time. Which helps a staff like Miami where kids actually want to be with coaches and teammates they actually want to play for and with.
Any DB’s that want immediate playing time ought to be blowing up Narios phone and text begging him for a spot cause someone like a Hanks or a Pickett would jump to number 1 at whatever position they’d want immediately

@DMoney are you surprised we are reaching on several positions for this class with a 7-0 season? I understand we are flipping a few players (this will be a top 10 class) but we have kids in this class that are head scratchers, imo. You see the Texas and OSU’s of the world who are going all in with their classes and loading up with high rated players. Miami isn’t exactly committed to that extent. Thoughts?

Also, anyone else scratching their heads with OL recruiting?

The only correct words are. I trust Mario.

The narrative out there is we regress to mediocrity without Cam next year
There will always be a B.S. narrative out there on every school. That is part of the recruiting game.

If UM can drop 2 million to get the best portal QB this year, is UM going to pay nothing next year and play a stiff? That makes no sense. Any objective parent or recruit would not fall for that.

There is no guarantee we get another great portal QB, regardless of the amount of money. We almost didn't get Cam. We will undoubtedly regress next year if we don't get a solid QB. Emory is not the answer. That's how I would negative against us. Any objective parent would understand that.

People see that FSU is hot garbage without Jordan Travis and expect the same from us.

We will not be able to replace a talent as unique as Ward as those QBs are hard to come by. But that doesn't mean the rest of the roster will suddenly forget how to play or that a really good QB can't keep us at a high level.

What about all the positions that still need an influx in talent in year 4? I'd wait to throw stones.

They’re probably right to be completely honest if we don’t hit another portal qb out of the park. But that narrative can be totally shattered by our staff when they point to the development they have going at many different spots. Db we are selling year 1 playing time. The rest of the roster outside of QB can point to development

We are not in a next man up scenario. QB, OT, OC, WR, DT, DE, LB, CB, S all will need portal fills again next season. Idk who you see waiting in the wings at those spots but development is not where I would point.

Yeah, any program without solid QB play is not going to have a good year.

Besides Texas, there is no program in the country where the backup is a 'guarantee' to be very good, so our issue is the same issue every program w a senior starting QB has.

Yeah, there is no 'guarantee' of anything. But after we just pulled the best portal QB and have the money to pull a top portal QB to think there is not a very high chance we get a solid QB next year is unrealistic on every level.

I guess I didn’t explain my point correctly: development guys playing solid football for us:

WR: Horton and Restrepo (#7 is stretch because he’s always been great)
DT: Moten has given us great snaps. Scott looks like he coming along also
DE: Bryant looks good when he’s given snaps.
LB: Wes and popo have been developed
Corner: nothing good to say here
Safety: nothing good to say here

But to your point you’re absolutely right we MUST recruit better across the board leading to quality depth

First last you said we would have 4 losses in the SEC, now this.

Are you a Nole? :pgdead:

Agreed. It really is as simple as getting another good (not expecting Cam level) qb and a talent infusion in secondary. We have turned over talent completely elsewhere.

Die hard Cane fan. Nothing I said in either post is unreasonable or exaggerated. We got lucky to beat very average Cal and V tech teams. I absolutely think we would lose 4 games in the SEC. I absolutely think we regress next year if Emory is our QB.

FSU failed because they went cheap and thought Norvell could coach up a bum like DJU

Obviously there ain't another Cam out there, but if you use his salary for another QB for next year while recruiting with the results he had this year, I don't get why it's so unreasonable to think they wouldn't be able to pull the top QB in the portal again this year

It's easy to doom and say they'll miss lol. No **** that can happen

We might get another good portal QB. If we do, we should have another good year. We might not. Other teams will pay for said QB too. We need to get to a point where we can play our recruited QBs. I understand this takes time given the shape of our program when Mario took over. He hasn't recruited QB very well. Emory is light years behind Cam. If he's our guy, I expect regression. Not FSU level regression, but regression. I can see teams recruiting against us using that.

Hopefully wat we lose in offense we make up for it on defense. I think the offense will pretty much stay the same except Cam Ward, which that type of player at qb doesn’t grow on trees. The defense has more holes to fix. Hopefully they address the holes over the offseason and with recruiting to offset the lost of Ward. If the Canes close well they’ll be alright.
