@DMoney thank you for the write-up. It’s great to hear how strong and deep our OL is now and going forward.

I feel like this staff is holding its cards to the vest more and more. Would not surprise me at all if some names not being discussed start emerging as we get closer to December. IDGAF if we end #4 or #8 as long as we pull in the guys we want and get more balance across the different position groups.

Also, we need less quantity in the portal so can really hone in on quality this time around. No more Savion Riley, or even Cook types .. or even Alderman (that has been a shocker to me) and Carter types. I want 1 top guy at QB, WR, DT, DE, LB, S and CB. 7 guys not many but super A+ quality.

I agree and I think it depends on the make up of the class position wise. I mean look at some of Riley's class in the past, top QB, RB and WR, but no Natty. **** he even had Caleb Williams for 2 years.

I'm curious to know the make up of Michigan's classes when they won.
Exactly. As long as you are consistently getting classes in the top 8 range, with some higher years, the far more important factor, which isn't accounted for in class rankings, is how you filled the needs on the roster. You can have a #1 class and be heavy on a position that you are already loaded at, while lacking in your biggest position of need. Good recruiting is about far more than the class score.

Sounds like the Clemson model but with portal use.
when clemson was winning
they were stacking ELITE talent on the dline
we arent close to that
i think its bc Mario can only take D line recruiting personally every couple of years

top 8 with elite talent in the trenches is different than jags in the trenches but your rank is high bc of skill players
its not the actual rank that matters its how you stack talent along the trenches

Why not just take the top 2 guys from every position and fill out the roster that way? 🤪

Agreed. Mario seems big on character and talent. Not just talent.

I know you’re joking. But still worth a response.

This past cycle, we took a starting QB, WR, C, RB. DE, DT, S, CB, plus Bell, so that’s 9 guys. We also took a second DE who plays a ton, 2 additional DTs who rotate in all the time, a LB we thought would start, a second QB who almost was our starter, Taylor’s kid, and a S who transferred in then back out. 16 total, We could cut that by over half if we just get the right starters and be even better given the depth Mario and staff have built on the roster.

OL - the Samoan is fantastic, but I can acknowledge that 4 of our 5 lowest-rated recruits currently are OLs (and I've heard this is an area where we could see a couple of upgrades and/or drops)

If your name is not mentioned in the bank recruiting breakdown and don't have good senior film, its not a good sign for your ability to remain in the class. Can't say you haven't been warned.

Our recruiting average has been on par with LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon etc teams

Not OSU, Alabama, UGA, Texas

Now yes the rankings are skewed towards programs like this in the first place but to me I don’t care much what number class we land because sheer numbers can make it look better than it is. If our recruit average is around 91 and OSU/UGA/Bama is 93+ that’s a big difference
