Stevenson Tears.... Of Joy????

I thought Schiano was here in 2000, and afterwards, Shannon came from the Dolphins after serving as LB coach. I know he was here like in 1997, but thought he got on w the Dolphins.

Correct. He was w Dennis and then Butch and left to dolphins and then came back in 2000 to take over Butch & Schiano’s defense.

Diaz has inexplicably become this board legend over showing up and being an slightly above average DC in this last stint after struggling at his last two spots. Did we field good defenses the last few years? Yes we did but there were issues as well. We werent that dominant and LSU and Clemson exposed that.
People need to stop about the LSU game, please go look at the numbers, it wasn't a bad game by the D all said and done. Our D did better than UGA's against them.

We got worked in the first half, and field position didn’t help. Still we got outschemed that game, especially that first TD where Diaz got caught with his pants down, having players in that didn’t belong on the field. I’m the second half we shut them down when the game was already out of hand.

Yeah that was when knowles and Jennings were getting time. That was put to bed quick. Gimme a rematch with a better quarterback and punter and maybe it’s a better game

We gave up over 220 in the first half against an LSU offense that has been anemic for years now. They did whatever they wanted on key downs against us in that first half.

Diaz is an above-average DC. Nothing more, nothing less.

Shannon is garbage without butchs guys

By what metric is Shannon garbage at being a DC? He fielded a top 10 defense in 5 of the 6 years he was the DC at Miami. Some of those were Butch's players, then some were Cokers- Shannon's job was the defensive coordinator not the recruiting coordinator. It is almost impossible to do a better job as as a DC than Shannon did at Miami. Schiano might have left the defensive blueprint, but Shannon took it to another level.

I also find it interesting that a bunch of internet know nothings think they know more than Jimmy Johnson who thought Shannon was a natural at breaking down defenses, which is why JJ drafted Shannon when he was likely going to be undrafted due to being undersized, then Shannon became the first starting rookie OLB for the Cowboys since 1963, then JJ hired Shannon to be his assistant coach, then LB coach with the Dolphins. I'd use stronger language and point out that the hypocrisy of saying Shannon's "success" was the result of someone else's work while not applying that rationale to Diaz or other coaches is probably related to his race, but since it's XMas I'll be charitable and just chalk it up to simple dumb irrationality.

If you want a better metric than total defense (by any metric, the Randy Shannon Miami defenses were elite), then look at Havoc Rate, which is basically the ability of a defense to impose its will by generating negative plays.

Shannon is widely regarded as one of the most successful coaches ever in creating Havoc.

2018
#1 team- Miami (Diaz)
#13 team- UCF (Shannon)

Shannon's style is perfect for UCF. When you pair up an elite offense with a highly disruptive defense that gives the offense more scoring opportunities, you end up with an undefeated team.

Either as the Hurricanes DC, UF DC, and now UCF DC, Shannon has been doing for more than a decade what Diaz managed to do this year (and because of a couple good years, fans now want Diaz to replace Rick!) And while Diaz had the #1 disruptive defense with a D full of 4 and 5 stars, Shannon still managed to have the #13 team in havoc with a roster full of 2 and 3 star recruits in his first year, and did so after losing 7 full time starters.

I can understand still having your panties in a bunch after his HC failure and being so bitter about it that you don't want him back. But to claim that Shannon isn't in the top tier of DCs is just pure idiocy.

Personally, I'm over the bitterness and think it is a shame that Miami fans are overjoyed with having a Nole in Canes clothing as HC, but the one guy who has deepest ties to the University of Miami, and who still bleeds orange and green, might finish his coaching career as an outcast in the 305.

I've said before that I think Miami needs an innovative HC coach like Lincoln Riley to get back to the top, and that someone who runs a variation of the Air Raid would get the most out of SFL athletes. Josh Heupel (and Lincoln Riley) both come from the Mike Leach coaching tree. I'd be thrilled to see Heupel replace Rick at the end of 2019 and would like to see Shannon's story have a happy ending and see him help bring championship #6 to Miami as Heupel's DC.

He just posted a twitter post of him outside at his house (I’m serious) and both Canesfootball and Bandas twitter handles like me the post. Have no idea if he signed but if it was Georgia our coaches wouldn’t like a picture.

So either he signed with us or hasn’t signed at all🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Also no Georgia coach has liked the picture as of yet 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

So is Stevenson coming or not? Who gives two ***** about shannon or diaz

My guess is we wont get the answer to that until NSD. Every insider will say he's secretly signed with one team or another based on cryptic tweets, Facebook likes, or what chancletas he is wearing. The Diaz/Shannon stuff is elevator music until Stevenson signs.

You might be on to something. He retweeted Banda too.

Yes I saw it also and it was liked by banda, so he either signed with us or nobody yet. No way a coach that is in New York getting ready for a bowl game likes a tweet of a recruit that just signed with another team.

The other stuff is rubbish but #watchthechancletas is a solid form of prediction. No Doubt.....
