Why Morris was named "Starter For Life" in 2011 is beyond me.
Except Jacory played in 2011
Why Morris was named "Starter For Life" in 2011 is beyond me.
Reminds me of a guy named John Beck.
Morris talking all big and bad but even healthy he was a 57% passer. I don't expect that to change. Questionable leadership, questionable heart, questionable passion for the game, questionable footwork, questionable accuracy on anything shorter than 15 yards. More questions than answers for Morris. It's not his fault if we had a competent coaching staff kid would have never been a starting QB at the U.

And this is exactly why I don't think Williams was better... Had nothing to do with loyalty... Before the injury he still had some question marks and Williams couldn't beat him out... That being said, the kid isn't that bad... He can be a back up which is a start to the resurgence of QB U... Too be fair our problems for the last 3 years hasn't been qb... Teams like UF would have killed to have our qbs and until Cam Cameron came to LSU they were in the same boat...
If the staff knew he was injured, why did they not give Ryan Williams playing time?
The team (and W's) are more important than a single player.
Says volumes about Williams and Morris.
I don't know that this speaks volumes about anything or anyone other than Al Golden-- Its his intransigence, stubbornness, narrow-mindedness which pervades the program-- (e.g. 3-4 scheme clearly not working, No-D his best pal keeps job, defense "trending-up"...) I could go on-- suffice to say his decision to stay with a hobbled Morris says more about Golden than it does Williams.
Basically a one legged Morris is much better than a fully healthy Williams.
Don't think that was it at all. JMO. Golden shows loyalty to his seniors (maybe to a fault) and there was no way he was going to bench Morris if Morris wanted to play. I'm not saying it was the right move, but I never for a second thought anything would change.
This says a lot more abut Al Golden than it does about Ryan Williams if you ask me. The guy is completely impervious to suggestion, intransigent when it comes to introspection, objectivity and change. Williams really couldn't have done a lot worse than Morris in some of those games. But how would we know? Golden never even gave the kid a couple series when Morris was running around on one leg-- and he wasn't much better when he had two legs really.

Let's not get carried away. They would have killed to have good QB coaches. I believe Fisch and Coley are very good coaches. Morris is simply a limited passer. With that being said as a backup QB in the NFL i would feel ok with him coming in for 2-3 games a year if the starter gets banged up.
And Williams couldn't agree more. Nice guy but he is clearly not a game changer and the coaches know that. If Olsen can't beat him out this year his will probably never start for the U. I'm hoping that If Olsen doesn't win the job that Kayaa can steal it. If not it will be a long season and Then Kayaa is probably your backup this year and starter next year.
SM has as much arm talent as anyone but mechanics are sloppy. He also tends to eyeball first read, rather than go through progressions.
He has the physical ability to play at the next level, it's just the mental side that hurts him. I could see him as a project , take in the 3-4 round and coach up. Keep him in the same offense / system.
He's had three oc's in college ,so that hasn't helped with his growth .
That being said, I wouldn't touch him as a prospect, waaaaaay too many cons for only one pro..... A cannon arm .
He'll make a great 3rd string "just an arm" QB in the league with his headset and clipboard...
I disagree. I think he will be a very good qb with good NFL coaching. He was pretty darn good last yr when he wasn't injured.
Wait ...... What ?
You don't think he has the physical tools to be a successful Qb in the league?
Not really......
He has a cannon for an arm and that is it. He doesnt have ideal size, though he isnt small. His footwork is a mess, and he hasnt shown the ability after 4 years to go through his progressions. On top of all, he is this enigma because he can make the throws that most QBs cant but he cant make the throws most QB can. He has zero touch and has shown nothing over the last 4 years that he can make that throw. That isnt coaching, that is straight physical ability. Also regarding your statement, that he has at any point been pretty good is fools gold to me. He played a solid half against FSU, that much I will give him, but other than that I saw a kid that was shut down by any decent competition he faced. He feasted on low end to mediocre teams with the big play, and yes I am talking about 2012 also. He would go cold in those games also, but he would have stretches where he would hit big play after big play. He just is a marginal NFL QB at best.......

ALSO LMAO at all the ppl who say that Fisch had success with Morris. Kid couldn't break 60% completions to save his life. I like Jed Fisch too but let's not pretend like he turned Jacory and Morris into Peyton Manning.

Actually professionals don't question anything about Morris except his inconsistency.
Only Miami fans question his heart, toughness and leadership.
The pros see a guy who is a good athlete with an elite arm, but who is inconsistent.
One moment he makes throws that 5 guys in NFL history could have made.
The next moment he misses throws that every qb who ever started an NFL game makes 90% of the tome.
I've said this before. Morris is this year's Jake Locker.
3 years from now he's going to be an NFL starter or a career 2nd stringer.

Good stuff right here. Golden mishandled Morris' injury IMO. I will never understand why he didn't give him 2 or 3 weeks to try and heal. At minimum one week, especially when Morris was practically playing on one leg.If the staff knew he was injured, why did they not give Ryan Williams playing time?

He's nowhere near as physically talented as Locker. He has an arm. That's it.
The fact that his own fans are shredding him tells me everything I need to know about a prospect.
Practice squad kid for a year or two, then out of the league.

Really? He played at Miami, that's what we do. I don't think I can name a player since Andre Johnson that didn't get shredded at some point by this fan base
Check that, since ST
I'm calling bullshyt on the notion that Morris played because he is/was better than Williams. The assessment on this forum about QB's by people that don't appear to have any personal knowledge of what happened in practice or in the minds of coaches is exceeded by the number of outstanding players who sat on the bench while inferior upperclassmen played.
