STEPHEN MORRIS

i think fisch could do some things with morris... he had good success with him here, i don't think it's a coincidence.

What success are you talking about? As stated Morris' numbers were inflated with monster games against inferior to mediocre competition. He was awful against KSU, ND, FSU and VT that year. We won the VT game which was a big win but Morris threw for 170 with an under 50%. All in all he was awful against teams that had very good talent. So I dont know about this good success you speak of.

Yo anyone got a pic of him with a Snickers I can get him to sign at the Senior Bowl Friday?

Don't know about starting but he can definitely make the roster as a back up which is good... There's a lot of bad qbs in the league... He can make it... He just needs a little bit more coaching... He'll be alright...

If the staff knew he was injured, why did they not give Ryan Williams playing time?

The team (and W's) are more important than a single player.

maybe that tells us something about williams, no?

Maybe not. I believe that in practice, Morris, with zero real pressure, could outshine other quarterbacks.

I saw a lot of men who were great on the rifle range, but when it got to combat, they couldn't hit siht. In fact, some weren't even participating.

The inverse was also true. Some men who were mediocre on the rifle range were absolutely deadly when the shooting was real.

But Golden almost NEVER gave the others a chance to play. Morris would hobble back out there this year, and just repeat the same decision making we'd seen earlier pre-injury.

I'm not buying this healthy crap. I think the game moves too fast for Morris.

Lets be real here, Morris didnt exactly have to outshine the cream of the crop in practice while here.......

Reports out of the Senior Bowl have been pretty negative on Morris ... they haven't been much better about Linder. Seantrel is the only one to receive some praise but even reports on him haven't been glowing.

Says volumes about Williams and Morris.

Basically a one legged Morris is much better than a fully healthy Williams.

Don't think that was it at all. JMO. Golden shows loyalty to his seniors (maybe to a fault) and there was no way he was going to bench Morris if Morris wanted to play. I'm not saying it was the right move, but I never for a second thought anything would change.

I don't see it that way at all. I'm of the opinion that Golden just didn't want to embarrass his QB by pulling him. His loyalty to SM is akin to his loyalty to D'Onofrio.

I have been telling everyone that Golden felt he had to be loyal to these kids for the sanctions, i knew williams was better then Stephen and alot of people are going to be surprised. now that he is doesnt fell he owes anyone, its going to be a lot of competition now

i wouldn't say he was awful against VT. and his numbers would have been much better in ND if it weren't for the parade of dropped passes. I don't put that ND loss on him at all. And georgia tech was a pretty good defense and nc state beat FSU so they're not as inferior as you stated.

I don't know that this speaks volumes about anything or anyone other than Al Golden-- Its his intransigence, stubbornness, narrow-mindedness which pervades the program-- (e.g. 3-4 scheme clearly not working, No-D his best pal keeps job, defense "trending-up"...) I could go on-- suffice to say his decision to stay with a hobbled Morris says more about Golden than it does Williams.

This says a lot more abut Al Golden than it does about Ryan Williams if you ask me. The guy is completely impervious to suggestion, intransigent when it comes to introspection, objectivity and change. Williams really couldn't have done a lot worse than Morris in some of those games. But how would we know? Golden never even gave the kid a couple series when Morris was running around on one leg-- and he wasn't much better when he had two legs really.

The Pitt game still confuses me. Why was he able to put together a complete game that day? No wild high & wide passes that I can recall.

More of an indictment against Williams if anything, imo.

I think playing a seriously debilitated morris as well as keeping #30 in heavy rotation has strengthened a dangerous precedent set by golden, that he will ride with seniors even when an underclassman deserves a look (whether due to play or injury)

There's nothing wrong with sticking with someone to an extent, its better than having a turnstyle at every position...hopefully his penchant for sticking with seniors wont hurt us as much going forward as the quality of our upperclassmen has improved by attrition alone.

Remember we are talking about a guy in Golden that is loyal to a fault! Would rather stick with his best friend as D-Coordinator than make a change when all evidence shows he should. Same guy who will wait till the last game to play Jamal Carter and Jermaine Grace over 30 and #31. Would bring "arguably" our best Defensive Player and playmaker in Tyriq McCord off the bench instead of start him over a senior. Golden was gong to ride with Morris no matter what. Even if Williams was better ( and I do believe he is better) I could make the argument that Golden would not have played him because Morris is a Senior and has stood by Golden during the storm.
