Stephen Morris vs Blake Bortles

The life of an NFL backup QB is pretty f'n nice so I wish Morris well. Jax will ride the Bortles bus for a long time. That being said, I don't think he was the best QB in the draft. In fact, I think he will be one of those career backups. Next Big Ben? Not even close!

I have to disagree with you on that. I think Bortles would have benefited from 1 more year but he could have played in any system and been successful. He made his team better and that refelects him. Houston will regret passing on him.

I don't think there is any "stuff" to get together. He's an under-performer with and exceptional arm. He is what he is. The NFL scouts know what they see. That's why he wasn't drafted. That doesn't mean he can't make it. But, he's a very long shot and I don't see it happening.
 
As a Jags fan I'll have to admit I wasn't too thrilled when I heard the Jags had picked Morris up. But he'll probably be just a backup's backup so I guess I shouldn't have to worry about him taking down my pro team.

You can always bring him in for Hail Mary's if you are 70+ yards from the end zone.
If you are a Jag's fan, you should be happy that you have a qb, that when he's right, can make any throw, from anywhere.
He will also mystify you by missing throws a high school 4th stringer makes, but if Fisch can get him right on his fundamentals, then you will have a pro qb with a franchise arm.

Not many NFL qb's have the arm talent Morris does, and to be objective, NO starting NFL qb misses the throws Morris does.

With patience and pro coaching, Morris could be special.
He could also be absolute crap, and those dichotomies pretty much sum up Morris.

Covington was the qb when I first started understanding UM football... I was in the 4th grade... He was my favorite qb ever(the only qb I like more than Peyton Manning haha), that being said he was way better than Freeman, Wright and Marve... He was also Better than Berlin... Harris and Mortis wasn't what we had hoped to be but they have been the best qbs at this university since Dorsey...

Don't see how you hate on Morris more than any other underachiever here. Why don't you say something like that about Golden and staff, because it's just as much on them as it is on Morris.

Actually, I am not sure why anyone would call Morris and underachiever. He was not a big time recruit but started for two years. We don't like the results but he probably overachieved based on rankings coming out of high school. That said, I don't think he has chance of beating Bortles out. When you draft QB with 2nd pick in draft and an undrafted free agent beats him out, the HC and, or OC have usually been fired or are about to be. SM might make squad and I hope he does but I do not expect to see him play much. But if he does get a shot and has one of his good games bombing some team with weak pass rush, then he could have a career in NLF in a series of teams as back up. Good luck kid.

reallY? he was a UFA. how can you be disappointed by that. it's an extremely low risk high reward situation. he's not getting a big contract or anything and may not even make the team.
