Stephen Morris - The Regression

He just seems to be terribly inconsistent and "isn't the same guy" every game. We've all have been amazed by some of his throws and have said wtf to others. He consistently inconsistent.

he's been that way since day 1

No doubt in my mind that Fisch was the reason for the huge improvement with Morris and Fisch leaving is the reason for his regression.

Teams are playing for the deep ball so much that every time he checks down (see Coley in UNC game) it goes for 15+ every time.
Wish he recognized the importance of that.

I'm just glad Coley likes to run the ball (as oppose to say, a Whipple type).

I've thought about this. I think he is playing tentative. Coley needs to tell him to just play his game and not worry about interceptions. I'm always concerned about Wake. Their coach gets more out of his players then anybody and we have a target on our backs. I'm hoping for a good defensive showing and good play from our OL.

Dear God. No.

He's BEEN playing his game.

And he's getting worser.

I don't think it was Fisch, I don't think it is Coley's fault. I think this injury has hurt him bad. Why the pain may be tolerable, his mechanics looks off. I am know football scientist, I am not a QB guru. But the way he throws these last two weeks on some of these passes looks really off.

I don't think he mentally checked out, he has hardly been sacked/hit. Unless he is buying this BS hype (which is now GONE). I think he needs to get his mechanics fixed and make smarter choices. Let's hope this first half of the season looks different from the second half.

Totals Against UNC + GT

36 for 57 (63%), 646 Yards, 3 TDs and 4 INTs

Although he threw 646 yards and completed 63% of his passes, it is these turnovers that are totally preventable.
It's six picks between both games not four

If SM plays like he did against UNC...WF may well beat us. He needs to wake the **** up and take what the D gives....better yet....run the damned ball.

No.....that's exactly the opposite of how he got hurt. He got a little pressure......flushed out of the pocket and got tackled running towards the sidelines.

He didn't have a chance on that play. LOL there was no pocket. Right at play action to Duke they were on him, he had no choice. Against SST no less. Made a desperate sideline throw and ate it. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/cane...rris-ankle-injury-shows-protection-breakdown/

Your analysis of Morris "hangs in the pocket under heat" has to be one of the most retarded statements ever made on these boards.

To answer the question, it's tough because we're not privy to all the information, we can only speculate, but since this is a discussion, I'll throw in my $.02.

He got a swollen head and thought he was gonna kill it this year and instead he's become a pick machine. But we're 6-0. His leadership is good but I've noticed his body language is different than in the past - much more outwardly frustrated. His ankle injury can't help but I think it's mostly decision-making - mental not physical. Fisch used to stress taking the easy completions but Coley likes to strike downfield. Stephen probably likes prefers the latter with his arm.
The obvious change in OC is definitely relevant, but not dispositive.

Hopefully, he cuts down on the bonehead plays and throws the ball away or tucks and runs more.

How long was he Injured last year ? I remember he got hurt the UNC game witch we lost. I don't remember how long it lingerd . Was he hurt FSU too?

Not sure why people are that surprised. He's always had an elite arm, and a $0.05 brain. Its not that Fisch was a great OC, its that Morris had been in his system long enough to feel comfortable and not have to 'think' too much. New OC means he's having to adapt to a new mentality, which was bound to set him back some. Here's hoping he gets it more together by the time we play free shoes.

I would like them to start having Hagens in on 3rd downs to give him some extra protection. Maybe with him in the game, it will settle Morris down some in the pocket. He seems jittery. Even against teams like FAU and SSU, he didn't look as comfortable as Williams. The offense ran smoother and seemed more consistent. Maybe he's just trying to do too much, because he does have the big arm, where Williams knows his limitations.
