Staff may just go all in with Emory now…

Another excuse will be generated per usual.
Can only speak for myself here, but if we roll with Emory and our current QB room and it works out about as well as I think it will (not well), I'll petition to join the mope squad.

I'm optimistic about Mario, but with some reservations. Some of that optimism is purely a coping mechanism as he's not going anywhere anytime soon and I prefer not to be miserable about my favorite football team for years. Some of that optimism is pure though. Roll with Emory or baptize a true freshman against a tough schedule and disaster ensues, then for me all that pure optimism is gone.

The Emory talk is starting to sound like the Miami Heat board and Tyler Herro....
..the hate is deep no matter how he might play
Battle lines have been drawn.

Tate vs N'kosi vs Jarren
Mendoza vs Emory vs Nickel

Not sure who may enter the portal after the playoffs, but not sure there’s anyone we’ll throw millions at.

With emory it’s a different looking offense. More balanced. More running. But we have the oline and rbs to do it. We’ll win but win not relying on a superstar at qb to be the focus of the offense and be the star.
Only time you go all in on a QB like Emory is if you have an elite defense and you let Emory be a game manager

This. We simply don’t and likely won’t have a good enough defense to play the complementary football needed to consistently win games with a qb like Emory (or Mendoza). We have holes galore on defense, seemingly middling prospects in this portal window for additional reinforcements, and oh yea the coordinator responsible for our historically bad defense is still on the job.

Yup, they would need to go out and bring in like 7 high end starters on defense.

Absolutely! Mendoza has the experience to get us to the CFP if we actually shore up our defense and bring in some stud receivers. He also has two years of eligibility while Luke learns the system. This is a no brainer. If Emory transfers then so be it. Many of the folks on here get so emotional about Emory, “ He is a true Cane” “ He gave it his all against FSU” …it’s not personal, it’s business.
We need a bridge for Luke. I just dont see it with Emory, maybe im wrong but the kid is a statute.

Doubt they would pay for Mendoza. No guarantee he would be the starter either. I think they follow their plan, if another super star like Mateer becomes available, they take their shot. Otherwise they will add depth and someone to compete with Emory. I think they will absolutely want both available in the Spring so they will act in the coming weeks. Grad students are still able to move whenever, correct? I would expect there is a chance some nice QBs will be available after the window closes.

Nothing to do w development. When a clear and obvious upgrade is available, you gotta try to land him. College rosters are too fluid now to stick w a player because you recruited him from HS. Theres no guarantee any player will be here next year, so you gotta try to go all in every year.
True. But I think in the future recruits might feel thy are being recruited as back ups. I guess it’s professional football now. Personally I don’t like it.

Emory is a true cane. How long does Mario think he can keep his QB’s benched for portal talent. Arent the young QB’s getting developed? Do we posses the capability’s?
If you don't develop a young QB at some point it will most likely affect HS QB recruiting in the future . Had EW not broke his arm last season this thread would have a different narrative. I think he will be fine

The real question is this....

Will the money it will take to bring in a portal QB make your team that better than running with Emory and Luke and spending QB like money on defensive playmakers?

I only think it does if you can get a legit heisman trophy contender at QB and right now there zero of those in the portal. I honestly question if Quin Ewers would even be worth it.

The one thing I keep falling back on is that our team could have run the ball a lot more than it did. We can easily have one of the best rushing offenses next year no matter who the QB is.

10 wins with a terrible defense. If the defense was just average they are 12-0
But the Defense is not average, they’re below average and it’s not looking any better for 2025 based on the current roster, plus Portal thus far has been a dud.

It’s still early with college free agency so hopefully an influx of defensive talent comes in. Otherwise, this is a 7/8 win season with Emory or Mendoza behind center with same HC leading the charge.

That’s reality.

HS QBs fail to live up to the hype at a high enough rate that I’m not sure if it matters if transfers cause HS ‘croots to shy away.

Also, I think it matters that Emory’s biggest weakness will be our defense. A game manager at QB, which is what he is, needs a top end defense to succeed, and we don’t have a top end defense. There’s probably a reason Mario is sniffing around more dynamic QBs.

Do we fans never learn? Marino brought us Dan Marino passing records. Never a Championship. Every year he played for the Dolphins the defense sucked worse and worse. Cam brought us Cam Ward records and each game our defense was worse and worse until the end. No Natty. I guess I just think that balance on a team matters. The 1972 Dolphins were the perfect team right? They didn't have the stud QB, but they had three stud RBs in Morris, Czonka and Kiick. They had superior guys on the O line like we have now. They had a stud defense who could stop the run. They had Warfield to stretch the defense. They had Mandich and I think Briscoe to be possession guys. Michigan won a Natty using this formula. Just opening this for debate but exactly how from that are we given the current roster of the team? We need the run stoppers but I think this roster could be better if we added the talent on key defensive positions and didn't try to be an offense that killed the defense on time of possessions. As usual I will wait for all the normal face palms I get from the posts.
amen... no hero to pump up

I don't see how Mendoza and Emory are the same. Mendoza is more athletic than Emory, by a longshot. HE got better as the season went on.

Mendoza has experience; he's been through the ACC. He's a willing and able runner. Don't see the similarity at all.

IDK what is happening with DC but I wonder if throwing a few more bodies on that side of the ball will really make a difference if Guidry sticks around. Seems to me there should be input from the DC- if there is going to be a change - on who is brought in from the portal. Same thought process applies to position coaches.... Seems like we do things backwards..
