Staff may just go all in with Emory now…

Has the sand beneath your feet moved, keeping you in place while the world moves around you? Or has your worldview changed?

Either way, the only position I would wholeheartedly reject a spring transfer >95% of the time is QB. Spring transfer means he likely lost the starting job and won't get enough reps to learn the offense or build a relationship with the offense.

Neither. It's the realization that the people that make the decisions at the school are never going to run the program the way I, and many others, wished they would. I'm not getting any younger so I'm just going to root for things to get better because like it or not...Mario is a reality that isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

As for the timing. Yeah, it's not ideal but it is what it is. If this window isn't a possibility due to a lack of options, then you rally your money folks and get ready to overpay the first good QB that hits the portal in the next window. I still think someone like Drones could be a possibility.

I hear you. Time remains undefeated. And I can’t imagine the best spring portal candidate with a few months prep is much worse than what we saw tonight.

That's why the whole "the second window is too late" stuff doesn't even factor into my view of the situation. The situation itself is SO DIRE that we are going to have to just throw money at the problem to solve it in the short term.

Or.....go with the true freshman. What could go wrong???

Nickel hasn’t thrown a football in a game in over a week, but he looks like a much better option to me today than he did yesterday.

I'm optimistic about Mario, but with some reservations. Some of that optimism is purely a coping mechanism as he's not going anywhere anytime soon and I prefer not to be miserable about my favorite football team for years. Some of that optimism is pure though. Roll with Emory or baptize a true freshman against a tough schedule and disaster ensues, then for me all that pure optimism is gone.

Hard to know given his reps. He has strong physical tools- 6'7, smooth delivery, good arm and a good athlete. He can break off 40 yarders if there is green grass in front of him.

The question is processing. He's done fine when I've watched him, but he's with the 4th team going against the 4th team. He was a big man in basketball and a Wing-T quarterback until his junior year, so he has limited decision-making experience. That's where I think Nickel has a big advantage.

If we bring in a Portal kid and Emory transfers, I'd have him split second-team reps with Nickel to see where he's at. I'd bet on Nickel in that scenario, but Judd has enough tools where it's not a given.
