Spring Game Observations...

Guys Shockey wasnt "Jeremy Shockey" gamebreaker in the first spring going into his junior year. Give the guy some time, Dude is probably still thinking out there where to line up and such. He has been here a month, regardless if he comes from the best juco in the land there is a difference to big time D1 ball. Lets let him get to a real game, I think he will adjust well in the passing game aspect once he gets acclimated and isnt thinking soo much.

What he really needs to work on is gettin psychically stronger because at point of attack he doesnt seem to hold up well in blocking. I know in high school he was more big receiver and blew up size wise when he went juco, hopefully his strength catches up to his size.

Came here to post just this

I think D. Crawford is going to make a significant contribution on offense this year, but I think he'd be a playmaker on Defense. I think it's a mistake to keep him on O, but then again I don't get paid millions to make those decisions

I hope we sign that #5 Johnson guy. Made a long catch over our starting CB and he was just jogging! Man our DBs suck...

I really hope you know I'm kidding. Erbody so serious

Based on what? He's quick but that doesn't mean he has the brain for defense. And who's he gonna play over?

Considering our depth at DB, and our lack of depth at RB, it's not a mistake at all.

2001 was Shockey's junior campaign and he was all beast at that point.

First, I saw at the beginning of the Spring Game thread that there were a couple of guys laughing about the stadium being empty. Actually, what happened was that the fans were funneled into the seats behind the home team bench and the access to all other areas of the stadium including the upper deck were blocked. Thought this was a great idea because condensing everybody to one side gave off the appearance and feel of a much better attended event than if the same amount of people were spread out all over the stadium.

Scott and Waters not only caught just about everything thrown their way but were open alot even when the ball didn't come their way. Both are dangerous after the catch as well. Real excited about these two. Even if we just had just Waters and Scott and a bunch of JAGS I would still be excited about our WRs (they look THAT good), but then I we get to add Malcolm Lewis, Philip Dorsett, Allen Hurns, Jontavious Carter AND Stacy Coley to the mix as well? Ridiculous..

Thought the run d looked better than some here are giving them credit for. Alot more guys flying to the ball than I've seen ion recent years. Missed tackles are still a concern but at least ball carriers are being met at an acceptable depth on a consistent basis and not the 5-10yards downfield we saw all to often last year.

I thought both squads did a good job defending the short and intermediate pass. Thought the LB's and secondary did a pretty good job of covering the TE and backs out of the backfield and were much more physical in doing so than in last years game.

I thought Tracy Howard actually had pretty good coverage on his man a majority of the time. One thing I have noticed with him is that it looks like he's not as physical with the wrs as he could be and I'm wondering if that might have something to do with him not having great confidence in his make-up speed should his man get off the jam or initial contact and it becomes a foot race.

I think Dallas Crawford is going to be all right. I thought the Orange Team d-line did a pretty good job of getting consistent penetration on running plays and skewing things a little bit. I'll wait until he gets a chance to run behind something resembling our regular O-line before passing judgement on him at RB.

Loved the Malcolm Lewis/Gino-Romberg-Andre Johnson tributes. So glad we hired Al Golden and it's stuff like this, his caring and his attention to detail, that keep me feeling that way. Homerun hire.

Chickillo and Pierre look legit! They were in the backfield all day, which was a great sign!

And Scott, Duke and Morris were te beat players on that field.

What scrimmage were you watching? There was not one single blitz run today. And that was the plan by Coach Golden days leading up to Saturday...

1. Howard did what he could. Scott is our best WR and probably a future NFL guy. The play where Howard got beat by Scott for the TD was perfect coverage and a perfect throw. Howard tried to rake the ball out once Scott got his hands on it, which is all he can do is that situation. Scott is 3 inches taller and 20+ pounds heavier than him.

2. Morris looked goooooood boyyyyyy.

3. Minus a couple runs by Duke, I thought our run defense looked a little better.

4. I still hate our blitz schemes. Even when we send the house we don't get to the QB. Same **** we saw last year.

5. Our WR core is just foolish. Hurns and Dorsett weren't even playing today, which is even more crazy.

6. I didn't think the squads were split up fairly. The orange team's offensive line (if I remember correctly) was Flowers, Bunches, Wheeler, Isadora and Henderson. That's **** near our starting O-line. (about as good)

7. What a class act Golden is with the Malcolm play. Also thought it was cool what he did with Andre and Gino.

8. I think that overall our defense looks much improved. They don't look as lost as they did last season. Even when the offense makes a nice play our defensive players are atleast in position to contend it.

9. Finally...something I'm really concerned about...OUR PASS RUSH. It's non-existent. And I don't wanna hear some nonsense about how our O-line is great or whatever. We got zero pressure. Not even a sniff. The few times we did get pressure, I would look at who was playing O-line and it would be some 3rd string player or a walk-on. Alot of times our D-linemen look like they're playing pattycake and hand fighting out there instead of rushing "half-a-man" and creating vertical penetration. SMH

I THINK Tracey will be fine He did pretty good toward the end of the year last year with tackling and coverage

I really am going to be interested in this scheme...If Coach D's scheme does not work we need to give him his walking papers

In my mind he seems to be the most confused person it seems like he keeps trying to justify how good the scheme works but it just

seems like we haven't had a coordinator that can maximize our kids talented...I believe we have a lot of talent on this team we just

need someone that puts them in a position to make plays

I thought Nate Dortch had a good game.....Rashawn Scott looks like a different player out there

What scrimmage were YOU watching? I saw several. Matter of fact, DP almost decapitated the QB on one.
