Spring Game Banner

Given that some recruits and recruit parents/relatives have straight up said so, yes, unless you are calling all of them liars.

"Straight up said so"?

I'll take your word for it, but I don't recall the banners scaring away recruits and/or their parents.

UM was losing top rated recruits before the banners.

Well, here are quotes from Walton. Others have also made similar comments: “A lot of people are going on a rampage saying they want Golden gone, saying a lot of players want out of the University of Miami. Of course, as a recruit it hurts and makes you look elsewhere. But I just try not to get bothered with it.”

Apparently Walton and Scarlett even had discussions about it and it was very much an issue in consideration: “There are some times where I think I might want to leave too because of the negativity, but [Scarlett and I] just support each other and say, ‘Let’s not let it get into our heads,’” Walton said. “We’re going to play it out. We’re not worrying about what the fans are saying. We’re not worrying about the negative messages. We want to go in there and make changes, help bring The U back. That’s what we want to do. Hopefully, he’ll stick it out with me.”

That's just one example. I've seen others, including comments from parents. If you think that such a concern by recruits and parents is isolated, you're being delusional. Like I said, not wanting to have a fanbase act like immature, petulant toddlers throwing a tantrum and embarrassing the fanbase, and pushing away recruits, does not equate to supporting Golden or wanting him to stay.

Could not have said it better my self...

Thank you. I definitely appreciate the insights that you bring as the parent of not just any recruit, but a high-level, highly-sought after recruit. Thankfully you clearly understand that the very vocal, disruptive, and immature actions of a certain segment of the fanbase does not represent all of the fans. But unfortunately the loud and obnoxious minority are what many of the parents and recruits see upfront and center, and they are left with the impression that these are the types of "fans" they would be spending their college career playing for and dealing with.

LOL at this dude presenting himself as the model all University of Miami fans should aspire to be.

All this guy has done is throw the players under the bus and blame them for the shortcomings of the team, rather than the coaches:

Howard's problems are his and his alone. There's a reason that Corn Elder, shorter and less highly recruited, is taking up a lot of Howard's playing time. Elder tackles 100 times better than Howard, who can't seem to hit a stationary object in space when trying to tackle.

So flying banners and being vocally critical toward coaches is immature, but blaming the players and claiming their problems are only theirs is the type of fans these guys want to play for, right?

STFU scumbag.

The thing I don't get is...if you guys are done with the team, the program, the university; why do []_[] come to a University of Miami football site? If you're done, []_[] should be done with anything and everything that relates to the []_[]. Why keep coming back everyday to say I'm done with this program until they make changes? Why don't you go away until they make the changes you feel fits you. Leave the site for fans who looks forward to seeing these KIDS go all out for The U!

If you guys fly a banner it needs to be a positive one.. flying a fire golden banner in late October when were barley bowl eligible is not a bad idea. But flying one at a spring football game full of weavering recruits is probably not a smart thing to do.

No ****....

I simply don't get it. If there was some chance we could still get a new and improved coaching staff in here by fall camp, fantastic...but that ship has sailed.

Continue to pound the Admin with e-mails, voice mails, letters...whatever, but just the possibility of driving away potential recruits for the next staff? C'mon.

UM

Well I'll be delusional then, I think those are isolated comments. IMO, we lost more recruits by Golden either not offering...offering late...straight up bungling the recruitment for a position He HIMSELF said He needed 2 of (RB)...or losing His team. And we didn't need Mrs. Mitchell to tell us He lost His team, Golden HIMSELF admitted He lost His team...#CLIQUESKILL ring a bell?

It's []_[] again, lol! I thought you were done with the program? You slurpers just can't get enough of this staff, lol!

And why are the anti-banner folks so worried about things they can't control, which is, getting NSD sigs from "Swag16" or "Squad17"...that's a speculative practice at best when you're dealing with fragile teenage psyches...banner or no banner. Hows about getting behind the team that's CURRENTLY HERE for a change, instead of cheering for a WISH LIST?

I'm the parent of a very high ranked sought after recruit. I can't tell you much, all I will say is he is a 5 star running back quarterback receiver hybrid.

Unfortunately he is going to attend Alabama. We only spoke about it once, but it has nothing to do with winning championships or developing under proper coaches. He chose Alabama because "miami fans have yucky potty mouths, and they fly mean banners. If they were nicer to their coaches, I would be a cane."

Because this is the internet.

Nice try...except everyone on here already know that the person I brought up is indeed the father of one of our top recruits.

No, I'm just me, I'm not a model for anyone. You can be you, even if that means being an immature, whiny baby. I don't throw any players under the bus. My comments on Howard are accurate. I'd wager that Howard himself realizes he hasn't lived up to his potential, just like Stacey Coley this past season. If you post the rest of my comments about him (but that would require being honest on your part) I've stated that he's got potential to be a top player. Doesn't change the fact that he hasn't played up to his potential, which is NOT due to coaching. Elder is getting the same coaching, yet doesn't miss all of the tackles that Howard misses. Bottom line is Elder earned the playing time over Howard.

So no, I won't "STFU"....especially just because some loser such as you tries to tell me to.

You are delusional then. Even the father of a recruit stated it's an issue, and it's not isolated. Whether or not Golden's recruiting has also been an issue doesn't change the fact that such childish, embarrassing fan behavior is one as well.

How silly to act as if one can't be behind the current team, and be worried about our future recruiting as well.

It's silly to act as if you have control over the latter, than the former.

No one has complete control over recruiting, but one can have an influence. Again, like it or not, recruits, and the parents of recruits, have made it quite clear that fan behavior does matter. Take it up with them if you have an issue with it.

Ok Skippy. You post like a child and are too stupid to separate being a Golden fan and being a UM fan. If Golden got fired tomorrow I'd have no problem and wouldn't feel bad for him at all. That's got exactly ZERO to do with the damage done by whiny babies such as yourself that seem to think throwing temper tantrums, embarrassing the fan base, and giving recruits additional reasons to not come here (beyond the already present reasons of the poor season) have no negative impact.

Lulz at me "giving recruits additional reasons not to come here." You're delusional.

Go down slow. Really savor that ****. Suck it in.

Yes, because a complete nobody (which is what you are) knows more about the situation than the various recruits and parents who have straight up mentioned the fan behavior as one of their considerations in whether or not to sign with a school.

Oh Snap, burn!!!! You got me good.

Everybody, shhhh, stop complaining. We need to appreciate Al Golden, otherwise the teenagers won't play here.

You're very sharp, put me right in my place.

No surprise that you can't address the topic at hand with anything resembling a coherent argument. One of the top recruit's parents just stepped in and agreed with me. But I guess I don't know what I'm talking about, and the fan behavior has no impact on recruiting, right? Now get back to work and don't oversalt those fries this time.
If a recruit's parent is more concerned about banners and disgruntled fans than player development, winning and championships then that parent is misguided to say the least. Does everyone want a fan base that fills the stadium, cheers loudly and sings kumbaya at the post game party? Sure, but that ain't gonna happen when talent gets wasted year after year, when the head coach further erodes our national brand that was built from winning and playing football he refuses to play, when the administration is tone deaf and content to aspire to 8-9 win seasons. Sorry, Cane fans aren't happy and they will let anyone and everyone know. Tough **** for the parents, players and lily-livered "fans".

Amazing. Alabama fans threaten players lives and yet somehow, miraculously even, Saban manages to land ELITE recruits. Funny how that works. Maybe we should do the same since it seems that's what it takes to get the real good players. What do you think?

I feel you. I'm in a similar situation.

I'm the parent of a 5 star quarterback-running back-cornerback hybrid recruit and I feel the same way. He's going to Ohio State though because their fans are incredibly classy and would never resort to such juvenile tactics as flying a banner. A banner of all things, disgusting.

LULZ at the Folden Farqots using Mark Walton, a guy who signed with UM, as Exhibit A in their case that the banners hurt recruiting.
