Spring 2017 - Coach Banda Mic'd Up

We are working the fvck out of our pitch game.

P.S. Banda ain't going anywhere any time soon. That's Diaz's son. He's attached to Diaz. Typically in a situation like that you'll see Banda follow Diaz wherever he goes and move up the ladder under him.

Does Diaz leave eventually or wait to take Ricks spot?

Depends on how long Rick stays and what other opportunities come Diaz's way. If Rick stays 10 years, and the team and defense have sustained success I doubt Diaz stays.

i've never been in a college practice . . . but ****, the attention to detail is insane . . . is that common?

I'm really impressed with Banda.

I had my doubts as the cynic that I am when he was first hired but he has earned his stripes.

I'm in the minority because I am not.

He hasn't earned anything in my eyes yet.

What do you see as his shortcomings? Or was this just a drive by shooting?

I had a huge problem with the hire because the guy had zero on the field coaching experience and I don't believe the University of Miami Safety position (one of prestige imho) or any position is one where we should have on the job training. Then I wasn't too thrilled in the way in which we used our Safety's last year. Jamal Carter should have been the box player..we essentially ran a 4-2-5 when we brought in Jaquan but I pained me to see at times with Carter at Deep FS with Rayshawn and Jaquan in the box. That could be a combination of Diaz, him, etc...Not sure. Then he's bringing around the camping world bowl trophy as if we had won the orange bowl. In recruits eyes, they thought it was lame...so did I. Technically the biggest Safety recruit for the 2017 class was Brian Edwards that he missed out on but I am happy with Derrick Smith and Amari carter so he get props for that.

So I am just in a wait and see mode in terms of how the Safety's are developed, etc.

I hope you are right Chise. Young guy like him who can coach and recruit is a hot commodity these days.

I can see most of your argument but the bolded part...not so much.

If the croots thought it was lame why are they still lining up and taking numbers to sign with us?

I misspoke, let me not say "recruits"(plural)...more like a few recruits that I know.

I just think that our safety play was the best it had been in years, and the players were golden guys. Before we pass judgment on Banda, I keep the eye balls posted on player development, recruiting and continued passion for the program. To soon to give a final grade, so far so good IMO.

It was lame, brother. It wasn't lame enough to lose recruits. But it was ******* lame.

He can be a hot commodity if he proves to be successful developing Safeties (which he has yet to do). And we can hold onto him.

You act like we have other colleges routinely plucking our coaches. Almost never happens here, and it'll be super rare if we start winning. Guys might take promotions, but we don't lose guys to lateral gigs.

I agree that the Safety play was better...imho because of the front 7...especially the DL.

Watching Banda more and more....

My Hate for Paul Williams becomes more and more unrivaled...where a punch in the face may not fulfill my satisfaction.

if our d keeps improving and becomes elite, maybe he goes full bud foster. manny has deeper ties to this city than almost anyone in the business and staying home may be a big factor.

lol it's always funny people have doubts when we get coaches who aren't " well known" and always act like it's a bad hire before he even steps on the field. Why were there doubts about him?
You know why they are doubts because Miami has this proven history of taking unknown coaches and turning them into hot commodities!

There's always the chance that he loves it here so much that he'd be willing to wait till he's 55 to be the HC here. We're getting ahead of ourselves a little, but I could see a scenario where he has success here for 5 years and gets a lower level HC gig where he cuts his teeth as a HC with the idea of coming back to UM when Rick shuts it down.

I think this dude is potentially a better HC than a DC. I love his talk game and his leadership and refusal to make excuses. I could see him being a very dynamic HC.

Manny has flamed out at other programs in the past. Maybe he knows that not all coaching terrain is equal and he hangs around for a while rather than potentially flame out at the wrong HC opportunity.
