Spring 2017 - Coach Banda Mic'd Up

I'm really impressed with Banda.

I had my doubts as the cynic that I am when he was first hired but he has earned his stripes.

I'm in the minority because I am not.

He hasn't earned anything in my eyes yet.

He did a great job with Jenkins and Carter last year. Both are very flawed players who had good seasons under one year of Banda.

Rayshawn has made plays here since he was a freshman and I don't believe he has major flaws.

Carter was average to me this past season and was definitely flawed but I don't think we played to his real strengths all the time.

We are working the fvck out of our pitch game.

P.S. Banda ain't going anywhere any time soon. That's Diaz's son. He's attached to Diaz. Typically in a situation like that you'll see Banda follow Diaz wherever he goes and move up the ladder under him.

Does Diaz leave eventually or wait to take Ricks spot?

Good question I would guess it depends on the quality of the job.
The work he is doing here will ensure he will be on top of the list when the time comes regardless if he is still here or taken that HC job.

Depends on how long Rick stays and what other opportunities come Diaz's way. If Rick stays 10 years, and the team and defense have sustained success I doubt Diaz stays.
if our d keeps improving and becomes elite, maybe he goes full bud foster. manny has deeper ties to this city than almost anyone in the business and staying home may be a big factor.

There's always the chance that he loves it here so much that he'd be willing to wait till he's 55 to be the HC here. We're getting ahead of ourselves a little, but I could see a scenario where he has success here for 5 years and gets a lower level HC gig where he cuts his teeth as a HC with the idea of coming back to UM when Rick shuts it down.

I think this dude is potentially a better HC than a DC. I love his talk game and his leadership and refusal to make excuses. I could see him being a very dynamic HC.

I think that's probably the way it will end up playing out. He will eventually leave to a starting level HC job but the familiarity with UM and the city will bring him back. Plus side of that scenario is that we actually get to see him as a HC before committing to him.

Romeo requires redirection and constant motivation to complete reps and drills the way our coaches want all our players too. This must be the reason he isn't mentioned at safety thus far. With this staff U must be solid between the ears and your effort must match that intelligence. Finley passing the eyeball test is not enough. Finley would definitely start for a Golden/D'No coached team. Knowles' intelligence and effort beats out Finley's brawn for now. Our players are being developed. Finley being vocally called out is a good thing because it's done in proper tone with instructive intent.

Pat Bethel is HUGE, and may have retained his quickness as well. He is on my radar now.

McCloud looks like the game is slowing down for him in these drill snippets. He is seeing the Matrix and looking really good. Won't end up the weakest link of The Bermuda Trianglem

The way Banda threw the football to make a point to Romeo had me dying, because where you learn to toss a pigskin like that?

What do you see as his shortcomings? Or was this just a drive by shooting?

I had a huge problem with the hire because the guy had zero on the field coaching experience and I don't believe the University of Miami Safety position (one of prestige imho) or any position is one where we should have on the job training. Then I wasn't too thrilled in the way in which we used our Safety's last year. Jamal Carter should have been the box player..we essentially ran a 4-2-5 when we brought in Jaquan but I pained me to see at times with Carter at Deep FS with Rayshawn and Jaquan in the box. That could be a combination of Diaz, him, etc...Not sure. Then he's bringing around the camping world bowl trophy as if we had won the orange bowl. In recruits eyes, they thought it was lame...so did I. Technically the biggest Safety recruit for the 2017 class was Brian Edwards that he missed out on but I am happy with Derrick Smith and Amari carter so he get props for that.

So I am just in a wait and see mode in terms of how the Safety's are developed, etc.

I can see most of your argument but the bolded part...not so much.

If the croots thought it was lame why are they still lining up and taking numbers to sign with us?

I just think that our safety play was the best it had been in years, and the players were golden guys. Before we pass judgment on Banda, I keep the eye balls posted on player development, recruiting and continued passion for the program. To soon to give a final grade, so far so good IMO.

I agree that the Safety play was better...imho because of the front 7...especially the DL.

You didn't see the back of their jerseys chasing guys into the end zone, happen so often in the past. Yes, the line is much better and expect improvement in both areas. Richt said it would take time to get back to where we were at his introduction, IMHO he has and will continue to deliver. I expect our defense to take a big step forward and be much better than last year.
