Southridge/Deerfield Beach thoughts

Deandre Johnson is listed at 240 pounds. I dont se ehim as a dt prospect here at that weight. Did he gain alot of weight or something after the stabbing?. Because i think he was like 6'3 240 tops. Thoughts D money..Pete?

Johnson looks heavier than that. He has a big lower-body. I'd say closer to 260 with room to grow.

He's not huge but he's bigger than the kid from Alabama that Kool signed last year
.

Martin is 6'3 280.Your saying Deandre is bigger aroung the same time frame?

Is Martin listed at 280? He's gained a good amount of weight if that's the case.

How did the Antwan Collier vs Jerry Juedy match-up go throughout the game, being that we're recruiting Collier at DB going up against an elite receiver?

I dont know the kids names but #17 and #58 both should be at UM. I was really impressed by those two, they made plays all night. You can win with those types of kids. I was more impressed by that dline than the DB, not sure how they havent gotten more mentions or maybe I missed it.

#17 is DeAndre Johnson, who is committed to Mississippi State but being pursued by Tennessee. #58 is Randy Charlton (2018). I completely agree with your take.

Just from the eye test Johnson looks as big or bigger than Martin. That's not saying much-- Martin is small-- and the eye test is not exactly scientific. But if we are comfortable with an athletic 3-technique that size I would keep in contact with Johnson.

We really need two DTs in this class IMO. Moten and Jenkins graduate, Norton and McIntosh are threats to go pro with a good year, and I'd be shocked if Willis stayed for a fifth year of college football.

Southridge's DL was so dominant that Deerfield's passing game never really got going.

Jeudy caught a short pass and shook Collier pretty bad one time (I think it's in the HLs I posted) but never really got behind him. Collier had good coverage and help from Shawn Davis on a deep pass to Jeudy but got too aggressive and picked up a PI penalty. He covered Jeudy well on a fade in the endzone which sailed out of bounds. Other than that, it was quiet.

Charlton and head are really undersized. Are they really DEs st the next level?

Did Diaz talk to Grace that you saw? Wondered what the temperature is between him and the staff.

Grace has really bulked up.
Why did he wait until he left to bulk up?

You mean after he could focus on working out full time and didn't have to be a student?

Being a full time student didn't seem to stop Chickillo from bulking up.

Clearly different body types and metabolisms

They won't be seeing college action for another year and a half so they have more than enough time to add weight with their frames. Charlton might be an outside linebacker though

Ivins reporting Shawn Davis in contact with UM, any substance to this or just typical recruiting season stuff?

"In contact" could mean we are calling him, and he's not hanging up. We, like everyone else, are constantly in contact with guys we're trying to sign.

I understand that, hence my question. But I also recall a couple months back Pete was saying we might re-emerge for this kid so I figured it was worth asking.

Yeah, I think they took a selfie. Things seemed good. The coaches wanted him to stay but it was out of their control.

Grace has really bulked up.

He does, but Carter still looks bigger (and maybe this is why he'll change positions in the NFL).
Barboni what were your thoughts on the game?

I went to the game with a few friends (one coaches at FIU).

Other than 3rd and long, Southridge played heavy cover 1/3 with a Davis as the single high safety. Deerfield's Oline isn't anything special. At times they protected with 5 lineman and 2 backs, and a 4-5 man rush would still get there. I have slightly different opinion on Jerry Jeudy. If I were to make a comparison, I'd say that he reminds me of Ocho Cinco, but not as fast. Tall, with quick feet and very fluid/smooth change of direction. He separated easily on underneath routes. Collier, got beat on 2-3 slants that went for around 10 yards. In the slot, he was abusing #5 , but the qb couldn't get him the ball (Deerfields QB missed plenty of open WRs). I was impressed with footwork on the play where he shook Collier after the catch, but not with his burst after the hard cut. I don't see elite acceleration like Ridley, Coley, Cook, etc...Nor, do I see elite deep speed. When deerfield did have time to throw, he had trouble separating against Collier on deep routes. They didn't cheat Davis to his side. With DFBs max protection calls, I was surprised that they didn't attempt a 1v1 outside release vertical with Juedy (especially, when he was being pressed by Collier). This also showed on both of his KRs, especially the 2nd where he spent too much time going lateral and got tackled behind the 20. Maybe I was expecting too much or he might of been injured, but that comes with the hype . Hope he comes to Miami, but fans might end up disappointed if they're expecting a prospect that's a threat on every single route on the level of Coley or Ridley.

I think it's telling that on a team loaded with D1 DBs, they chose Davis to be their single high safety. He'd be a nice pick, as we need safeties with range.

Billy Gibson has a big frame for a hs safety. Hard to project what he could do as a safety with him being lined up as a ILB, but hopefully he has decent range.

SFL is going to be loaded in 2018 with quality DEs, and I'm hoping we take advantage. Stack chips!!!

Ummmmmmmm, ok. Here's his midseason highlights. Show me one play against decent competition where he outran a defense out of a short pass, or where he gets a lot of separation against a good corner/good team on a deep pass:

I saw him play and it's not like they didn't use him on those plays. Coley did it in HS, while playing on a garbage team. He also showed it as a true freshman, where he outran Multiple NFL prospects on a short pass against Vtech. I'm not saying that Juedy's not a top prospect, but I don't see standout game speed, and FWIW, neither did the D1 coach that went to game with my group. I hope that I'm wrong, if he ends up at Miami.

He is clearly outrunning and destroying angles on almost all of those plays. Those highlights re-enforce my point. On The plays where he got tackled on, he was either surrounded by 4 guys or could not have gained any more than he did even if he was a 4.1 guy IMO. He is an effortless strider who gets to top speed quickly. Sorry but I did not see that same type of ability from coley. Richards was closer IMO. I guess we will see how jeudy does at bama next year.

Coley is faster than Jeudy from what I've seen. Jeudy has a bigger body and is equally quick. He's also probably a better overall football player (would be just as good on defense as offense).
