You already know what it is. South Florida is a DB factory. There is not a region in America that can compete with the quantity and quality of DBs that we have produced over the years.
Since I took this series over in 2023, we have had Antione Jackson (ECU/UCF), D'Angelo Ponds (James Madison/Indiana), Xavier Lucas (Wisconsin), OJ Frederique (Miami), Daniel Harris (UGA), Luke Evans (MS State/Miami-OH), Edwin Joseph (FSU), Kimari Robinson (Duke), Ahmere Foster (Marshall), Victor Evans III (FIU), Malik Willis (Campbell), Will Ferrell (Presbyterian), Guylijah Theodule (Marshall), Lawrence Johnson (FAU), Kal-El Pascal (Bowling Green) Matthew McKenzie (Bethune Cookman) become contributors at the next level. Guys like Damari Brown (Miami), Darrell Sweeting (Temple), Dwight Bootle (Nebraska) and Nazir Ward (WKU) played early but were struck by injury, while Rayquan Adkins (Cincinnati/James Madison) was a starter as a freshman but ran into legal issues. This class I expect a good amount of these guys to continue the trend of South Florida corners producing.
Ben Hanks Jr., Booker T. Washington (6'1" 170) - Attended Doral Academy as a freshman. Looks and plays like a 5 star defensive back. Elite ballhawk (13 picks as a senior) with Niagara Falls-esque hips. Knack for blocking field goals. Dominant in camp settings. Also played offense and could have been a prospect at WR if he focused there. District champion in the 400M. Also played baseball. Dad played at UF and in the NFL. UF signee.
Chris Ewald, Chaminade Madonna (6'0" 165) - Played varsity at TRU Prep as an 8th grader. Aggressive, long-armed press coverage terrorist that cut his teeth against the best competition in America. 7 picks and 49 PBUs in career. Starred on the 7v7 circuit with Defcon. Very technically sound and won't need much work. Despite being light, isn't scared to mix it up in the run game. Will eat in a bump-and-run scheme. Miami signee.
Tywan Cox, Miami Northwestern (5'11" 165) - Chaminade transfer. Feisty nickel prospect with real speed. Verified track speed (10.79 100M, 21.05 200M) and it shows on tape. Willing to come up and make a rude introduction to the running back. Dad, Torrie, starred at Pitt and played six seasons in the NFL for Tampa Bay. Older brother, Torrie Jr., is one of the best DBs in the country at Illinois after starting out at Ohio. Illinois signee.
Caden Gordon, Santaluces (6'1" 170) - WR convert with real tools. Very good press corner with long arms & the ability to reroute receivers with ease. Hard hitter. Very surprising twitch. No verified track times but fast as ****. Underrated. NC State signee.
Tavius Horne, Atlantic (5'11" 160) - Spent junior year at STA but went back to Atlantic for senior year. Speedy cover corner from a DB factory. Verified track speed (10.78 100M, 21.44 200M) and it shows on film. A threat to take a pick to the house. Very hard hitter. Claims 4.35 40 and 37" vertical. Unsure how he was so underrated. East Carolina signee.
Herlin Perry, Miami Central (5'11" 165) - Originally from Providence, Rhode Island. Transferred from La Salle (RI) Academy. Sticky cover corner with good ball skills. A pick and 8 PBUs as a senior. USF signee.
Zion Paret, Miami Central (5'10" 165) - Originally from Tallahassee. 4 picks and 10 PBUs as a sophomore at North Florida Christian. Transferred to Northwestern as a junior and put up a pick and 5 PBUs. Played for the Rockets as a senior and recorded 2 picks and 6 PBUs. Twitchy ballhawk with the ability to stay in the receiver's hip. Plays outside in HS but may be a better nickel/FS at the next level. Track background. FAU signee.
Camari Hall, Chaminade Madonna (5'8" 175) - Attended both McArthur and South Broward before finishing at Chaminade. Explosive nickel prospect that plays with a head full of steam. Hits like a tow truck. Explosive RB on offense and could play there on the next level. Middle Tennesee State signee.
Jamarcus Pierre, Cardinal Gibbons (5'9" 170) - Deerfield Beach transfer. Another speedy nickel prospect. Verified speed (10.89 100M) and it shows on his film. Lethal with the ball in his hands. Plays with his hair on fire. Violent in the run game. Underrated. Temple signee.
Kelly Sejour Jr., Chaminade Madonna (5'9" 165) - Started out at Central. Ballhawk cover corner that pests receivers like a mosquito. Played against elite competition. 5 picks and 37 PBUs in varsity career. Twitchy backpedal and quick feet. Can play both outside and nickel. Track background. Underrated. Chattanooga signee.
Zaheed Pierre, West Broward (5'9 165) - Flanagan transfer. Sticky cover corner with good speed. Hard hitter. Claims 4.4 40. Eastern Michigan signee.
Josh Smith, The Benjamin School (6'0" 170) - Martin County transfer. Cover corner with good length. Played offense and the ball skills translate. No track times but plays fast. Army signee.
Jett White, Edison (6'2" 170) - Originally from California and spent time at Los Alamitos and Orange HS before coming to South Florida as a junior. Long bump-and-run specialist that terrorizes receivers. Plays faster than track times (24.09 200M.) Was a high 4 star, ranked as one of the best DBs in the country in California as a sophomore, then fell to a mid 3 star. I'm shocked at the fall off because his Florida film is still great. Was committed to Maryland and has an OV to Temple this weekend.
