South Florida '25 - The CBs

Careful D$, a certain poster and his groupies are going be upset that you are stating facts and backing it up with real data.
I don't have any groupies.

But I can argue this point till the cows come home with real data as well.

The conversation is about CB's & QUALITY of their play specifically.

South FL has the QUANTITY numbers, but in terms of the actual best CB's, it's a myth.

Adding Safeties to the topic moves the goalposts.

Keep it to CB's ONLY & let's play ball.
You know how we could fix it....

Set up shop in Dallas and Dmv/Virginia along with what we do in florida. (Atlanta elotw dbs have sold their soul to the sec, along with louidiana kids)

@itsdolphhh man i wanted Hanks more than Pickett the whole cycle man. Baller.

Hanks is the better player . Pickett has bust written all over him at cb

I added a year, so this is the full 2019-2024 sample for CBs only:

First Round CBs

South Florida- 5
Atlanta Metro- 4
Dallas Metro- 2
Everyone else- 1

Day 1-2 CBs

South Florida- 10
Atlanta Metro- 7
Dallas Metro- 5
Los Angeles Metro- 3

If we expand it to states:

First Round CBs

Florida- 8
Georgia- 4
Texas- 3
California- 1

Day 1-2 CBs

Florida: 16
Georgia: 7
Texas: 6
California: 6

The players drafted during this time period who have made the Pro Bowl or All-Pro at CB are:

Pat Surtain II (South Florida)
Devon Witherspoon (Pensacola, FL)
Sauce Gardner (Detroit, MI)
Tariq Woolen (Dallas, TX)
DaRon Bland (Modesto, CA)
Jaylon Johnson (Fresno, CA)
Trevon Diggs (Washington DC)
AJ Terrell (Atlanta, GA)
Trent McDuffie (Los Angeles, CA).

All regions have only representative. I'd argue Surtain is the best of the group. He is the highest paid.

Zion ain’t from Tally fam. Born in Miami, moved to Tally after 6th grade. Came back after 10th grade. Kid played on that MG Ravens squad with Jojo, JS and the gang. His parents are from Little Haiti, pops from Sabal Palm(IYKYK). I’ve been knowing that kid since he was a twinkle in his ol’ boy’s eye…
Sabal Palm like over by Morningside in the 40’s-50’s by Biscayne Blvd in the vicinity of Little Haiti?

So is it SF or FL in general?

And if the criteria is sheer numbers drafted, then yes.

But QUALITY of play, Pat Surtain II is all there is if you're using the NFL metric.

Whether he's the best is debatable, this season Derek Stingley Jr & Christian Gonzalez have actually been the best CB's in the league, with having the lowest reception rate based on targets faced.

PS2 gives up 72% of the targets he covers. He's very good, but other than him, who else does SF have if it's a QUALITY of play debate?

The top 10 best CB's in the NFL
- Christian Gonzalez
- Derek Stingley Jr
- Pat Surtain II
- Jaylon Johnson
- Denzel Ward
- Ahmad Gardner
- Jaire Alexander
- Marlon Humphrey
- Jaycee Horn
- Trent McDuffie

Where is the over representation of SF at?

What yall are really having is a population debate. FL is a densely populated state with a ton of Football players, of course they're going to have a bunch of players drafted. But when you look around the leagues, both College & NFL, you can count on one hand how many of them are actually dominant.

There's 1 Elite SF CB in the NFL & maybe 2 or 3 at most that can even be considered "Good" on the college level.

For a region that produces as many recruits & NFL draft picks, there should be a whole **** of a lot more represented at the top.

Regions that have a significantly smaller populations per capita shouldn't even be on any list for CB's, if SF produces the BEST ones...

I wouldn’t say it’s a population debate- Los Angeles has almost three times the population of South Florida, and Metro Dallas and Metro Atlanta both have more people.

The volume of Day 1-2 picks in South Florida is hard to ignore. I’d bet the margin gets wider when you expand to Day 3.

It’s incredible that we had 10 high-end CBs within a one-hour drive and only landed one of them (Tyrique).

I think D's point is we are talking about QUALITY of play for CFB corners. And whether or not someone is a 1st (or high round, whatever) nfl pick is a pretty fair barometer of whether they are a college NFL corner.

Ngl bro I actually love our DB class this cycle. Wish we could've closed on Hanks or another elite DB, and wish Central's negligent staff prevented Wallace's injury, but otherwise this is a great class
I’m not a DB guru but I agree. It’s being reinforced by the portal especially if we get Lucas

I wanted Hanks the most but that was always going to be a tough one and if we allocated those resources to Bentley and Lucas then I’m ok with a “miss” in high school

The dude who just wont he heisman is a SOUTH FLORIDA product. There's more coming down the pike my brudda. ( i dont like em but Jason Marshall likely is a draft pick at cb)

LA is densely populated they dont have sh*t but Mcduffie. The population an per capita of florida never works as the STate numbers are skewed by the m illions of old ppl living in state that dont know how to play cover 3.

After the group you listed there are about four south florida dbs that fluctuate in that top 30 cbs in the league yearly. Thats with young guys like Tyrique Stevenson expected to possibly make progressions.

Guys like Fabian Moreua and Artie Burns will be loggin starter snaps this week.

A pff list of "top" cbs pre 2024 nfl szn had i think 7 or 8 state of florida corners on it.

But i know u been on our decline in elite level db play and you may have a point. But the numbers are still flowing which eventially will push guys up in my opinion.

Whats crazy is LA and Houston.

Especially LA. tHEY WERE DOING 7 ON 7 LIKE 15-20 YEARS BEFORE US OVER HERE....THEY HAVE SPREAD OFFENSES FOR EVER..while south florida was still running wing t and pro style...and they dont produce good corners for the most part. Its a lil unique to me...

I know.

And there's only one.

If yall wanna count 1st or early round busts, then be my guest, but if the barometer is quality of play, there's literally only one.
