Something to keep in mind when you see Miami departures

Your Samson comment echoes something I heard regarding him being somewhat unhappy about Bell being picked up for LT…he felt slighted I guess?

His brother should be a solid addition, so I see no reason why it’s not smoothed over.

As for this giant class size…I’m not exactly sure how many kids will be taken, but we’ve heard the portal class will be focused on quality, not quantity. Wonder if we start looking for some depth guys as well.

As for HS, only twice since 2012 has a class exceeded 31 kids: A&M in Sumlin’s 2nd season, and Tennessee in Butch Jones’s first class. I think both were at 32 kids, but it was late at night when I was looking so I might be slightly off. It’s around there though - there’s been a handful of classes with 30, a few with 29…but mostly that 27-29 range is max. I’m curious where we end up considering the recruits allegedly interested, and the comments regarding drops.

I trust it all to be worked out and for us to be in a far better position, after all that’s a realistic expectation for Year 3. But I hope it’s not going to be a rebuild of sorts, just a giant re-tooling.
Bell is a monster and I have no regrets taking him

Agreed. Zero regrets - you take talent everywhere and let the cream rise to the top. It’s Not even a foregone conclusion, just a dirty rumor…and if we take his brother (who’s very good and shows real promise)…I see no reason we can’t have both.

Fwiw, Gaby said he was told yesterday that we won’t be going after Samson’s brother.

wasn't Samson's injury serious enough that he won't be participating in spring ball? If so, not sure what he expects. He was behind this season before getting hurt, now hasn't practiced most the season, won't practice in spring, and think's he's gonna show up fall and start??? Thrilled with having the young dude, and want him to stay, as he'll eventually be a stud for us, but C'mon...

if he's ready for spring, forget everything I just said.

I thought he tore his ACL which would have him out at least into the fall, if not longer.

I get we need to trim the fat on the roster, but there's also plenty of fat on the recruiting commit list that could be cut as well if we're gonna start forcing people out
And that will happen as well

Yikes..

There were some concerns about tampering because Narduzzi is known to cry publicly about it

Possible they think he's not good enough to risk those allegations considering it has happened and would be easy to find. Same thing as Andre Sam last year with Tulane.

They're crazy if they don't think he's good enough strictly based off the offers he's got since he entered and who recruited him to Pitt to begin with.

The room is pretty stacked, but I personally will never say no to legitimate pass rushers.

Bain, Mesidor, Kelly, and Wayne as a top 4 is about as good as it gets.

Then you have your ‘24 signees. I would definitely bring the kid in but 🤷🏾‍♂️.

My only concern is that they’re going for the bird in the bush approach again. Okunlola as a DE is a proven college commodity, not a flaky recruit or a reclassifying 2025 kid.

I say this without considering that it will keep Okunlola in Miami for at least two more seasons.
