Someone Who Knows Things

... because he was an all-around good guy and had some big moments and potential, so his transgressions were fast-forgiven by many.

Same with how a portion of this fan base still talks up Jeff Thomas as being a world-class player if given a 37th shot to get his business together—while not holding him accountable for a horrible attitude, a worse work ethic and some game-changing plays that cost Miami (re: the fumbled punt against Florida in the 2020 opener.)
Probably the most overrated player in recent memory. Same old story. He had the potential to be an all-star but had his head so far up his *** he thought his belly button was his third-eye.

2005 was the last year in my view when we really had elite talent. That defense especially was really good for much of the year. NFL guys all over

They were #3 going into that Gatech game. Then,... the program fell off a cliff

I have hated Pat Forde ever since.

That little worm made a HUGE to-do out of the Seventh Floor Crew story and then acted as if the same exact thing hadn't happened with Michigan.

He ******* ruined our season with that bull****.

All you guys got is the 1 game he gambled and won....how bout all the games we lost because of the BS renegade I do what I want to because I was an all american. Tell me this if Kam was so good why did he not get drafted on the first day of the draft?
GT is on him just as much as Mario or anyone else. One of the most overrated All Americans the school has ever produced

You ******* kidding me? Did you see who his qbs were and OC’s were during his time here? Yea no **** he had some **** going on mentally. Last time I checked Leonard Taylor was the most overrated player in recent memory.

If X can just add a few yards after the catch sim to Berrios who was consistent with his hands and gained some ground. although weren't folks *****ing about berrios on here too?
If X can be berrios this year at PR, we will be in good shape. X always gets the pass for being reliable with a high football IQ, but I remember too many times last year where he makes the decision to not field the ball and we lose 10+ of hidden yardage. IMO, can't have that with a guy back there who isn't a threat to house a punt. Give me full reliability, or give me risk/reward, no middle ground.

I feel you, if i can pull up on my own receipts I've been asking for a real **** ST coach for a while now, plays like those were always baffling so I agree with you there, but insert a game we should have won if it wasn't for a dropped PR / fumble ala Jeff Thomas (don't want to mention the game) and the risk/reward option goes out the window for me.

No chance. Jeff actually made plays here
My point being, that they are 2 players in a long line of guys that had all the talent in the world and then failed primarily because they had 10 cent heads and poor work-ethic.

It's ok. They're gone and can't hurt us anymore. We can agree to disagree.

Simple, stupid question. How can a safety not be deeper than the deepest opposition player? Wouldn;t that make him the Almost Safety?

Not surprised about Martinez and the tackling. It’s the first week of camp and we’ve had posters explain the psychology of tackling and how it’s a process preseason. Martinez is providing great process for them.

Also heard that Markeith Williams has 5 picks thru 4 practices.
I was hoping to hear something good about Markeith’s development because he was a ball hawk as a recruit! Nice info!

Two under appreciated aspects to Mario’s recruiting are the quality of character and level of intelligence he’s bringing in. Every time I listen to the players address the media I am so impressed by them.

If he is aligned in the box in a Big Dime, aligned in man vs a TE flexed out in the slot... there are ways to make safeties not be the closest man on the line of scrimmage, in particular vs heavier personnel. Its there to be competitive against the run whilst not sacrificing speed on the second level.

The typical center field safety does not really exist anymore... Nowadays, with offenses doing basically everything with running backs and tight ends, both in college and the pro level, safeties have to be able to line up basically anywhere on the field.

New England has their corners play safety in some packages, mostly when the safeties have to align closer to the line of scrimmage because of heavier personnel, with them still wanting to have deeper speed in the second and third level of the field. They got Josh Allen and Tua to throw picks in that look.

If you want to see the modern era of defense in general, I suggest watching New England and what they have done. I´d argue there is no team coaching up their DBs better.

we've had guys who weren't superstars (Reed, Blades, Taylor, Williams -- my Mt Rushmore of UM safeties) who provided really reliable play. They weren't necessarily all-Americans who made a lot of great plays, what their strength was -- they didn't make any bad/stupid ones

Players like Hurlie Brown, Charles Pharms, Bobby Harden, James Lewis, Casey Greer, Terris Harris

I don't ever really recall a game where I said, ''geez, those guys really hurt us today."

You can win with guys like that if you have other strong assets around them.
James Lewis and Mo were 2 of my favorites that weren’t the quote on quote superstars! Great post!
