Someone please tell me why we didn't pay Horton to stay?

Horton should have definitely started over Harrell. I believe he had much better hands and was a better route runner. Even though Harrell was more explosive he rarely got show it due to his struggles catching in traffic and contested balls down field. Money might not have been the only reason he left. It's tough to play behind someone you believe you're better than. It's even tougher to trust that won't happen again. I hate it but I understand his decision.
Harrell got cut by the jets

It’s not a big loss unless we don’t pay for someone better.

Wr room right now is mid

And horton probably got the bag he was looking for and is still at a respectable program, i don’t see how his decision is bad for him lol. You gotta maximize your college career, nfl money ain’t promised to nobody.

The second half of the season Brown got like 15 snaps per game so miss me with the Brown started over Horton takes.

Was he not worth what he was asking?
Thanks

Probably a combo of closer to home, better QB situation at the time, playing with Ryan Williams opposite him, similar if not better deal. I doubt it’s as cut and dry as just money.

I thought Horton was definitely a very good player, but we have to wonder how much better he looked because a 1st round pick was throwing him passes. And that makes you question his $$ value.

If Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes have taught us anything, it is that a great QB makes the receivers, not the other way around.
Yea Cam made him money and he had to do it now cause he probably won’t be able to again. This was my original prediction for him but Cam saved him let’s be honest.

I think he was feeling some type of way about outplaying Sam Brown and not getting more play tirne

Quite frankly if we just didn’t have brown last year we would have been fine. I do think there was some politics involved. Sam brown was probably getting paid more than Horton last yesr

He requested a salary increase and they offered him his market value and he bailed

I have no sources but this seems pretty cut and dry to me

With that said he would be WR 1 on the roster right now and I believe he’s on an upward trajectory and would’ve been great for us next year. I’m not sure what will happen at Bama though

If he believed he was better, he should've proved he was better. If he's sitting around feeling slighted and blaming coaches, he's not going to have much of a career at Alabama or in the NFL, either. Loser mentality.

Kid is also from Murfreesboro, Tennessee and grew up enamored with the SEC. Visited both Alabama and Tennessee days before committing to Miami on the spot in June 2021.

Who knows how comfortable he was or wasn't at Miami.

Horton committed to Alabama about two days after Miami missed out on John Mateer—probably assuming the Canes were going to stick with Emory Williams for the 2025 season.

Have to wonder if the same thing happens if Miami lands a Carson Beck earlier in the process; does Horton still leave?
