Some thoughts on the Wake game after rewatch

Yes I assumed blocking was part of it. I agree with you. We just need as much team speed on the field against teams like like smu and if we make playoff. I am much more concerned about defense obviously and for good reason.
Same page. Lyle is just different but I also am enjoying Damien Martinez absolutely trucking defenders earlier in the game

Haven’t rewatched so I don’t know just how egregious it was, but I do know I watch a ******* ton of football and you NEVER see teams going tempo called for not having all 11 set for a full count even when it’s clear.

Refs were yakking it up with Wake players. I’d look to see where some of those guys are from/went to college.

1. We finally rotated in some more guys. There was talk we weren't going to substitute much going into the game. I thought that was madness, given poor performances you need to let others, especially younger guys, rotate in to show what they've got. Popo, Pruitt, Moten, Lyle, Alderman made a big difference out there.
2. More Arroyo = muy bueno. More Lyle makes me smile.
3. Our DT rotation is finally where it needs to be with Barrow anchoring, Moten stepping up, Horton back from injury, Scott coming on and Clark and Cook providing quality support.
4. We need Mesidor at DE now that we're good at DT. He plays smarter and more disciplined than Baron. No contain issues when he's in there. If Alston is finally back healthy, that adds a big weapon vs. Cuse.
5. I didn't see it, but read that Williams played deep safety well on a few snaps with Meesh in Nickle. if so, that's the type of adjustment I was hoping Guidry would make for weeks now. Really hope Brown can get in there vs. Cuse.
6. Kiko and Meesh were monsters in this game. Kudos. But Wake was literally their perfect opponent. If they're not playing downhill they're still liabilities.

Syracuse is a different beast altogether. They won't stop our offense. They won't be able to run against us now that we've made the adjustments we have. But they'll sling that ball if McCord is hot. We need to pressure him and still provide deep coverage. If that means bringing 5 or 6 at times, then I'm for it in this case. Probably get gashed to some degree mid-level. But if we're seeing less Kiko and more Popo, we should be somewhat okay. We should also generate turnovers. I'll take some mid-level softness in exchange for pressure and turnovers.

Cam has been the lightning rod most of the season, and been a revelation. But now that it’s crunch time, the running game may be what we lean on. Provides much needed physicality & also results inless time on field for defense.

Agree, and Lyle needs more carries he has a different gear as mentioned.

I’m not happy with the tackles for loss numbers this season. We are not doing good in that department. Just 6 tackles for loss in that bs offense is underwhelming

How’s Bain healing going , does he need more time to recover so he can play like he did last year or does he need therapy?

So no speed rush you say, yet the play I referred to was clearly a speed rush. Beat the tackle right from jump. In NFL, he may be a better at DT, won’t argue, but in college, he has proven to be VERY effective at DE
He would be hard to deal with inside. He would be considered a plus athlete inside and he has the strength and power to hold up

We won.. plain and simple.. I mentioned in another thread that I could care less how, just win....
Now we have momentum and confidence back on our side... Go beat Cuse and prepare for SMU... Then it's playoff time... Everything is within reach...

No idea. Mario keeps that stuff close to the vest. But Bain’s sack yesterday and overall level of play (they had to regularly double him) leads me to believe he is close to being fully healthy.

This time of the year we should be peaking in all phases.
If Bain can play like last year , he could be a huge factor we’ve been waiting for all year.

Every team from here on are fine tuned peaking teams no time for not being ready and focused.

the little things are the things that win playoff type games as the Cuse game is a playoff game .

If we don’t show up for a fight here on in bring the fat lady in .

We must play championship caliber play here on in , every team is championship caliber now

I don't think people on here appreciate Martinez enough. He runs really hard and makes the pile move. He does everything and he does it well.

I'm not confident any of our other backs make the 1st on this play like he does. But he does it routinely.

Darren Rizzi. Interim HC New Orleans Saints

He will not get the permanent HC job with the Saints. Mario needs to bring him back to South Florida to take over the Specials Teams. Hopefully working with his daughter and coaching his son will provide the extra motivation over taking another NFL special teams job.

Danny Kalter might have a bright future in coaching but he obviously isnt ready.
