Some pre-VTech buzz

I just don't understand how we have 2013 all wrapped up with only 11 commits. Thomas, grace, bain is 14. Who are the other kids they are comfortable with?

I don't think we get Bain (or lose him for that matter).

Bostwick (12), Kirkland (13) are kids I think people feel comfortable about.

Williams (14) is another kid we have a decent shot with.

I think we sign 15-17 in total.

You gotta remember that many high profile recruits play it close to the vest because they want to take visits after the season.

I get that. But who are they? We mentioned thomas/bostwick/grace/kirkland/williams. 16. If we are at 80 now, plus whoever might transfer, shouldn't we be at 20 21?

That's a question we probably can't get an answer to yet, unfortunately. Still not sure what the final # will he with all that's still left to play out.

We are ***KKED at OL if we end up with just Gall and Kirkland.

With Mr Drama Henderson likely to go pro and Jermaine JOhnson not around to provide depth, Hunter freaking Wells is locked in as the primary backup at OT along with the unknown Gadbois and Briscoe. That's it.

At OG we have Feliciano, Linder, and Isidora, plus Gall and presumably Kirkland. That's it.

At OC we have McD and Wheeler.

Our OL depth chart for 2013 is 12 lousy kids, including 1 position switcher and 2 true FR. This unit needs AT LEAST 2 more bodies, impact FR like Flowers or JUCOs.

The recruiting at OL under Golden has been utterly inexplicable. He has been stockpiling DL like crazy - everyone bitc*es about DL but we have a MILLION DL lined up. ****, we have almost 4 kids for every 1 starting spot at DL. Meanwhile, our OL gets ridiculously shortchanged to the point where one stinking injury to a starter becomes fatal.

One of the positions I am least concerned about is OL.

We'll see. Back in 2007-2010, i was the only out there screaming about our lack of CBs in recruiting. While everyone was worshipping the 2008 class, i was critical of it because it failed at CB bringing only 1, when we probably needed 3. I THINK we ended up enrolling only 4 CBs in FOUR YEARS during Shammin's tenure, although we later switched Shields to CB for one year to mitigate our atrocious CB recruiting. It ended up biting us in the *** as we all know.

The same shi*s gonna happen at OL in a couple years.

Oh so you were right in 2007 about CB, not sure anyone who thought CB recruiting was good during those times. Everyone shouted we needed more CB during that time. In fact we only signed (07-09) DVD, Harris, McGee 3 cornerbacks during three classes, everyone knew we had issues it was clear as day just look at the numbers.

As for OL, we have a ton and we will have a ton next year. In fact if Henderson leaves, the net effect is -1 (Henderson, Lewis and Jones out, Gall and Kirkland in). How many scholarship OL do you need? 12-14. We will have that. In fact we are basically bringing back our starting five next year (Flowers, Bunche, McD, Linder and Felicano).

2013 OL Roster (without Henderson)

SR: Linder, Wheeler
JR: Bunche, Felicano and McDermott
So: Wells and Flowers
Rd-Fr: Gadbois, Isadora and Briscoe (if he stays there)
Fr: Gall and Kirkland

Then you have kids like Kerr and we're still after some OL (Knighton and Johnson), who knows.

In 2014 you bring in 3 more. I don't think anyone sees issues in terms of numbers.

12-14 OL??????? Dafug???

lol. First of all, NOBODY was complaining about CB in 2008 except me, over on Grassy. Nobody. I was the only downgrading that class because of our crap CB recruiting that year. Lots of dumb fans blasted me about it. lol.

Secondly, OL is the most important unit on the team after QB. Without an OL, you cant do anything, run or pass.

12 is TERRIBLE. 14 OL is still bad. A balanced team should have 17 OL at minimum.

OL is INCREDIBLY difficult to project when it comes to evaluating talent. That is why you need to STOCKPILE OL so that even if you miss out on 50%, you still have a solid group of 8-9 kids to man the 2 deep. We still have NO CLUE how good Gadbois, Hunter freaking Wells, Isidora, Gall, Kirkland, etc are...that is why you need to EVEN THE ODDS by stockpiling talent, just like we did with DL. It's simple logic.

Also, we have a BILLION DL yet folks still want a BILLION more?????? Where is the same outrage over the lack of numbers at OL??? We have 4 freaking DL for every starting position there. We have 2.4 for every starting position on OL and even that is reaching.

Are you really laughing out loud? Arrogant much? Are you sitting there slapping your knee at this stuff?

I don't know what Grassy is but I was not there. There are people in this thread who also saw the CB recruiting issues, pretty sure Ray Charles could see them. We had no one. 3 Corner backs in 3 years, yeah nobody knew we had issues.

17 OL, you want 17 scholarship lineman. Are you serious? We're about to go into sanctions and you want to have 3+ plus lineman at each position. That is way too much, teams don't carry 17 scholarship lineman. At most 15, which would be a 3 deep.

Alabama has 19 OL of which Harold Nicholson, Paul Waldrop, Aaron Joiner and Alex Shine are walk-ons, that is 15 scholarship OL. That is Alabama.

We all know about OL being a hard position to scope out and predict, but 17 is overkill. 15 is the number, 12-14 with sanctions because you can have 2 deep at every position on the line (10), extra tackle (11), guard (12) and center (13). As for the young kids, correct? We have no clue how good they are but we do know that NONE yes NONE have to start next year because Linder, McDermot, Felicano, Bunche and Flowers will be back. So those kids don't have to play next year much.

Getting 1 more OL (other than Kirkland) if we had the space would be great but not necessary.

We don't have a bunch of DTs correct, but quality is key. You are now watching a team with no DL at all, are you satisfied? Is this what you want? Is DL recruiting suffice?

We have kids like Corey King, Darius Smith and Luther Robinson. These kids are being thrown into the mix and playing a bunch of time, this is not good. Hence DT is not doing so good.

OL Depth and Talent is way ahead of the DT. Now go Canes, beat Va Tech!

OL makes up 22% of the starting positions on off/defense. 17 represents only 20% of the schollie allocation. 17 isnt even up to par, let alone too much when it comes to roster balance.

Yeah, lets keep recruiting 382085203820380 DL while shortchanging the most ***king important unit on the team outside of QB.

According to the post above yours, Bama carries 15.

And they ain't about to go on probation. Why should we carry more?

We should be like the Amish and do everything 1.5 times the standard College Team. If Bama carries 15, we should carry 23.

Again, 15 (for a team without sanctions) is the most you should carry. 3 deep at every position on the line is a lot and enough.

We have another issue on this site, it is also the inability to read.
