the only thing you proved was lsu hiring two first time coordinators got orgeron fired.
Wait what? Hiring a first time co-OC in Brady, who called all third down plays, was behind the whole passing game, and essentially schemed out the entire offensive gameplan got him a ‘ship…

Great stuff. Of the 7 schools presented, and their HCs, do you feel any of them compare to Mario and the CIS agreed upon concern that he must knock it out of the park with both his OC and DC?

First time coordinators could be different for:
- Dabo
- Fisher
- Saban
- Kelly
- Sark
- Smart
- Day
than they are for Mario, as they are all either considered the top coaches (by some), have an expertise on one side of the ball, or both.

I think Mario needs to hire excellent coordinators. I'm not sure that the "I've been an OC at 5 different school" retreads are inherently better than the hire of a very talented fast-rising star who will take the reins for the first time.

Whether those particular coaches are "so great" to overcome the inexperience of a first-time coordinator, I would say it's probably not the case with all, though all seven of those schools have great resources and players to help a first-timer out. Let's not forget, Dabo himself was a first time HC elevated directly from position coach, so maybe he has an affinity for first-time coordinators. Fisher and Saban have experience as HC, absolutely. Don't put Kelly on that list, as Orgeron was the guy who made the hires for 2021.

I'll say this about Mario. It has been written previously that Mario has spawned a pretty good coaching tree while at FIU and Oregon. And it's THAT track record that gives me some trust and confidence that Mario has a good eye for building a staff, even if a guy he hires is a "first-time coordinator".

There has been so little leaked information that we have been thrashing the same few names for a month. We have no idea whether one or both of Mario's coordinators will be first-timers, so this is all hypothetical anyhow.

Let's not forget, Mario has previously worked as an OC and/or running game coordinator. I think the most important hire of all involves OC/Passing Game and/or QB, because that is where we have a lot of talent and we need a strong hand on the tiller, particularly with play-calling. DC is not UN-important, but I think a lot of our challenge is flipping Manny's old personnel for newer guys, so I think we could live with a "first-time" DC more easily, if that's who Mario hires.

That's all.

Love it!!

Now make the hire, that’s been hired for weeks, unhired, in place, not close to done, scrambling, scrambling through so much interest, but definitely all the elitist of the elite.

Let’s go!

Maybe he is playing a first to 750 wins of Madden against them to see how they call plays before makes a final offer.

FWIW - Packers QB Coach / Passing Game Coordinator is getting an NFL Head Coaching interview.

for those of you that think an NFL QB Coach and Passing Game coordinator without any experience calling plays is beneath a University offensive coordinator position.
diff game. CFB coaching is a lot about recruiting and coaching vs NFL allows you to focus solely on coaching without worrying about recruiting and roster as you have a GM for that.

I hope, that when this is all over, nobody attacks the "insiders" for being temporarily incorrect. From all the people I've spoken with, there has been inconsistent and conflicting info provided to even our best insiders. Not sure if that was intentional, or there were some backtracks (Mastro), but I definitely think that the coordinators at the top of Mario's list have lots of options.

And I said this before, but I don't think Mario wants to Mario himself (take job, then go somewhere else 3 weeks later).

I think what gets lost in all this is that with a new coaching regime here, sources have to get accustomed to new sources of their own (or at the very least, tip toe around what seems to be a very tightly ran ship on purpose). We all saw what happened with the HC/AD search, and that's just a morsel of what this coordinator search has become.
