If coaches leave that means they were successful. Mario has always hired a good staff. So I’m ok with that.

Yeah, he’s been pretty good although he has had some misses. @Liberty City El detailed all of Mario’s coordinator hires and while he did well in a few choices, there were some head scratchers.

In theory I agree with you but hiring a new OC every 1-2 years is not sustainable imo. Besides, making good coordinator hires every 1-2 years is a high expectation.
 
I feel like there aren’t a ton of great options at OC this year.
Last year’s pool seemed a lot deeper than this year.

Anyone have thoughts on Zak Hill and Andrew Sowder? Hill is interesting even though ASU offense was a little disappointing this year. Sowder probably needs a smaller P5 role first but he’s definitely produced with Crum.

That’s the names I’ve always heard. When the Mario thing started to heat up Dorsey was mentioned, Mario always wanted to work with him. He thinks a lot of Ken. I’m just not sure it Ken wants to leave the nfl. Maybe coaching alongside Mario could make that happen.

I still have major doubts on Dorsey. Daboll does not have the most amazing relationship with McDermott and I can see him bounce, potentially to Jacksonville.

I mentioned Sowder in another thread. I don’t know jack about his system but his offense did great this year. Also Tim Cramsey from Marshall who is also a QB coach. His QB won frosh of the Year last year in CUSA

@Liberty City El Do you know anything about these OCs?

Lashlee didn't have TVD playing when he faced those "real" defenses.
 
I would be cautious with Schuman personally.

I know he's well liked by UGA and seems like it's a great fit for him there. Doesn't mean it would be a great fit for him here. Having Smart as a head coach and Muschamp and Lanning on staff is a huge security blanket.

He's very young, has never called a D, has always worked with elite talent only (always better than his opponents) and has always worked under Saban/Smart, two of the best D head coaches in the country. To change all of that at one time is a lot to put on a young coach. No more elite defensive head coach..no more elite talent (for now)..no longer a second or third set of eyes to help with play calling and coaching/practice. It's a lot of change to expect him to do it all well.

would love the prospect of KD but again, we are rivaling bama with our staff budgets.. would they hire a previous QB who has no OC experience with this kind of $$ available or would they go for a proven commodity?

let's play big boy football and go get someone proven and who can build something great, not someone who we think might be good and seems easy because of the miami connection

You can make that argument for any young coach. That’s how you make a resume. If he’s scared to make this type of jump and prove himself then he should stay and be satisfied just being a position coach.
