SIAP but something to consider is that McClendon has already been named Co-OC (not the playcaller.) McClendon is a pretty big dog in coaching circles, so I'd imagine he'd have to approve of whomever he's gonna be working with as the primary playcaller. That's one of the reasons don't think Ponce or some of the other Plan B guys we've talked about are actually in play at all.
Yeah I’ve had that thought too: it’d kinda be a slap in the face to McClendon to name Ponce over him.

Actually as die hard Cane as they come.. alumni, married a cane whos all siblings are canes also….. just trying to reason, there is absolutely no benefit for him not to announce them if hired
I can think of one!! His OC, and DC, have each requested, they be able to sign out this seasons recruiting class. Mario, being a respectfull person (and very well knowing his hires, will be well worth the request/wait), has agreed to these terms. I don't see Mario burning a professional relationship, and possibly, his intended coordinator, just to save a recruit or 3, for simply 1 recruiting cycle!

I'm no Insider, by any means, but, ..I actually think, he got this **** sewn up!!
And all our *****ing, and I don't understands, isn't gonna make him change his stance, on honoring an agreement!

That's just 1 reason for waiting till after signing day....if this has already been posted in the 90k posts in here, then keep going, my bad!

💯. Another factor in all of this that hasn’t been specifically mentioned—TVD. Caleb Williams is sitting in the portal and his new OC is Jeff Lebby, who is levels above Ponce. If I’m TVD and I have the chance to be a top 10 NFL pick, am I sticking around at Miami and putting my NFL prospects in the hands of Ponce or some other Plan B guy of that level? Probably not.

Mario isn’t stupid and knows this is probably his most important hire. The Candle offer shows he wants someone with experience calling plays, which Ponce lacks so hard to see him being a real option.

In addition, I know Ponce has Miami ties, but looking at his resume, do you really think a top 10 QB recruit from across the country is gonna be impressed with Ponce???

Just checking in to see which stage of grief this thread is currently up to.

The 7 stages of grief
  • Shock and denial. This is a state of disbelief and numbed feelings.
  • Pain and guilt. ...
  • Anger and bargaining. ...
  • Depression. ...
  • The upward turn. ...
  • Reconstruction and working through. ...
  • Acceptance and hope.

I think the DC hire is way more important right now. Other than one guy, I believe all the visitors this weekend are defensive players, with Shemar being the biggest. I am 100% behind the Mario and still think he will do great things here, but if we don't have a DC hire after 7 weeks on the job with NSD coming up, it is an issue, particularly if it ends up being someone mentioned for weeks here. If a guy is wavering on different jobs, you have to give him a deadline and move on. If a guy is that hesitant to take the job, he is probably going to bounce first chance like TRob did last week.

You may be on to something. In past recruiting cycles we've seen coaches bolting from programs after signing day and I suspect we will see an increase in this after signing day. It wouldn't surprise if it's more like a wave.
