this is apropos as Meatloaf died today and, at least in miami (in the grove on the NE corner of Grand and McDonald where the USPS is today), before each Rocky Horror Picture Show showing they played Paradise by the Dashboard Lights by Meatloaf.

Wow, 99% of the time no one gets my levels. I do it to amuse myself. Kudos. I hope you know that they played Paradise by the Dashboard Light because Meatloaf played Eddie in Rocky Horror.

Wait until Freeman learns that Golden's version of being "the man" might entail him ending up as a positions corch, filing frivolous lawsuits and receiving monthly checks from Notre Dame for 42 cents.
I dont know why but for some reason this owned me after I read it. I have gotten more laughter from this site over the past week and it has done some good, Thank You to all of the comedic contributors on this site.

****, Lebby would have been a great hire

Hiring Season 3 GIF by The Office

...or extremely thorough

Bottom line: The actual hire will either justify the hiring process or confirm there are issues with his approach. Hopefully, we find out soon.
Your response doesn't make much sense to me. Slow and thorough aren't mutually exclusive. You just suggested a reason for his slowness—he's thorough.

He could make elite hires. He could make mediocre hires. But the quality of the hires is irrelevant to the point I was making to the other poster: Mario is slow at making hires relative to most of coaching peers (perhaps because he's thorough), so we might not be waiting on an NFL guy (as the poster I replied to suggested). Rather, he's waited this long to hire college coaches before.

We can make fun of Golden, but he was a better head coach than Coker, Shannon and Diaz (I know those are low hurdles).

I applauded the hire when it was made (I can admit I was wrong). Initially, Golden said all of the right things and, as the face of the program, he always played well in front of the media. However, Golden's loyalty to D'Onofrio was polarizing, created toxicity within and outside the program and ultimately led to his dismissal (thankfully).

I know he is a TE but his experience in the NFL these last few years sets him to be a DC. Would I take a chance on him as a DC? **** nah. I am scarred for life with that guy. But, I can see why others would.

No his point is if he takes all this time to hire a dopey OC, then it was a waste to be “thorough”. You can hire Frank Ponce on 24 hours notice and he’ll take it (for example).

Now if thoroughness leads us to a slam dunk hire on paper (someone like Candle, Herman, Lewis, Dorsey, etc.) Then it’s worth the wait.

A Bemgals loss will let us know pretty quickly if Golden is a legit candidate.

I thought Rossi was the ND target, allowing Miami to grab Belk.

Still hoping that’s the case.

Not the “actual hire” though. Only the “actual performance“ of those hires will justify his selections.

We won’t know that until the season is well underway.

It’s hard to evaluate his process during this transition, because you’re talking about the key leaders having been hired within the last six weeks, and a staff that’s totally in flux during this transition, which is to be expected.

His process may be easier to interpret and judge and understand once the athletic department and staff are fully in place.

Right now, as people on the outside, we are only guessing as to what he’s doing, and these guesses are made much more difficult by the fact that you have an entire department in complete transition.

I believe in the end he is going to try to remake everything regarding the athletic department in the football program into his vision (in conjunction with Rad).

That doesn’t happen overnight.

Whether he is successful or not we won’t know for a couple of years which direction he’s headed.
Agreed. But, we are addressing two different points. You are talking about justifying the selection. I am talking about justifying the process. If he hired Schumann tomorrow most of us would agree it was worth the wait. If Schumann fails as DC after a few years, it was the wrong hire but I would not necessarily criticize the process.

We shouldn’t have an issue getting most of our desired candidates with this money (OC’s, HC’s present a different issue as we saw with Candle), so let’s see what Mario has in store.
Agree, crazy! We finally have this kind of money to pay a quality OC and it seems like it's an agonizingly difficult process. There's got to be a quality OC that wants to take our money!

I get that, but I never disputed that point and don't dispute that the ends could justify the process.

A poster suggested we're waiting on NFL guys. In response to that poster, I pointed out that: Mario takes a long time to hire coaches (even to hire college coaches). So just because we haven't filled our open coordinator spots yet does not mean we're waiting on NFL guys.

Gables responded to me telling me that the ends could justify the process, but his point was irrelevant to mine.
