this from Fromm's dad
So why didn’t Fromm just commit to Georgia in the first place?

Well, because he didn’t have an offer from Mark Richt and the previous Bulldogs staff. Fromm, the No. 44 overall player and the No. 3 overall pro-style passer in the 2017 cycle per the 247Sports Composite, never drew a ton of interest from his home state school.

“Richt just didn’t want him,” Emerson Fromm said. “It’s just that simple. They had another fellow in mind (Bailey Hockman) and that’s the direction they wanted to go. That was an eye-opener for Jake in life. Sometimes, you just don’t get what you want. You just have to make the best of what you got.”

As for why that was, Emerson can only speculate.

Fromm was a record-setting passer at Warner Robins High School. But the Bulldogs had landed five-star passer Jacob Eason the year before. To Emerson, who rooted for Richt throughout his tenure at Georgia, it meant the Bulldogs didn’t want to risk going after a second highly-touted passer in two years.

“I’ll be honest with you,” he said. “I don’t think they were confident recruiters. If they had a five-star ahead of you, the odds are the following year it’d be a three-star and it’d go back and forth. I don’t think they had the confidence. Their mindset was, there’s no way that we’re getting back-to-back-to-back five-stars and they just didn’t think they could get (Jake).

“At the end of the day, who knows? Maybe they just thought the other guy was better? I think they were wrong. But, at the same time, that’s my opinion. But it looks to me they were pretty obviously wrong.”

the rest of the article is pretty interesting as well as he goes into detail how Saban recruits and how Smart is doing what he's doing at UGA.

We arent allowed to criticize Richt and his staff OP.

Too many people have delicate sensibilities and get upset.

Fromm is good but come on man people are acting like Richt passed on a Michael Vick or Cam Newton type game changer. Besides Alabama offer him a month or so before Richt can let go, so it’s not like the kid got offered by Bama 3 years prior

Look Fromm can throw but come on, what qb wouldn’t do good with a rb group like what uga has?

I trust Jimbo’s Qb recruiting. He signed Hockman to FSU. Fromm wasn’t magnificent. Amazing Oline, 2 headed monster at Rb and a stout defense. Not saying he didn’t make plays, but he certainly wasn’t spectacular

using Cam newton is a bad example. Richt and company wanted him to play Tight End

I know this but my point is ppl are already acting like Fromm is on that level

LOL at this BS, Mark Richt isn't confident so he doesn't go after 5 stars because he just signed one. Man that's some salty sounding BS right there.

the Saban stuff was interesting too. said he basically sells Alabama and himself(Saban) because he doesn't know if his assistants will be there or not.

Richt missed out on quite a few in-state studs, more as he got further away from 2012, which was very disheartening to UGA fans as other SEC teams & FSU/Clemson would cherry-pick the state.

LoL - he did literally miss out on QB Cam Newton (pretty sure he recruited him as a TE), DeShaun Watson and a host of guys that were bought by SEC bag-men like Robert Nkemdiche (sp) while still picking up a good number of talented players.

I am not obsessed with linking Richt's past failures to his current tenure. I will not be blind to his faults, but I am encouraged by the direction of the program and appreciate his genuine care for these young men

Exactly, he’s brought in 2 5star running backs in one class before

Not totally clear on who lead the charge with QB recruiting at UGA. Lots of conflicting info on the Deshaun Watson (huge) miss and it makes me wonder who was leading the charge in the QB recruiting during Richt's last year.

And wasn’t around that time bailey Hockman the qb uga had committed top 50 in the nation or something like that before he took a tumble in the rankings?

Some of this was observed back when richt was hired.

I'd still like to know why Richt had no interest in Justin Fields. That one's a mystery to me.

By that logic, Richt would have gone after an inferior QB after signing Perry last year. Instead, he signed an arguably better QB in Williams. This sounds like sour grapes.

Talented kid, never heard of him though before that Orlando the opening performance. Regardless we will be more than fine with Jarren Williams as our Qb

You’re trying too hard. The other possibilities include (a) neither Perry nor Williams is a 5* so he sees it differently; (b) he in fact did try the same approach this year, but Sitkowski stunk so bad he had to change plans; (c) the article is directionally revealing but anecdotes are never a complete explanation; (d) he learned from the experience and won’t continue that pattern.
